Hi Haggadah,
I agree with you. I´m also prefer a hedge-trade, instead of SL´s.
Find attached a link and discussion about this issue.

Concerning the TFs, that depends on the hourly volatility during scalping.
I trust my experience or call it intuition.
For daytrading and sometimes trading swing about 2-3 days, if there is a trend located, I watch and break down from the weekly-TF to H4 and H1, where I expect the ranges that price (vola) will probably come across and where I have to place my pendings.
The TM-indicator introduced by “boldtrader” is such a useful vola tool, but other vola-indicator-channels works similar in the same manner.
Then I try to cut my piece of the cake.
Intraday scalping it is a little bit different, it depends be it live or not and further criteria.
That´s the reason to use the hiddenpending in periods of absence, starting with high lotsize and to scale out in the sense of taken partial profit. With the generated profit (by taken partial profit) I can increase the fictive stop-levels, but this method is very risky, especially for beginners. BTW: I get the signal-alerts via smartphone.
I agree also with you, that the last few months not only regarding the EUR/USD were a challenge.
But anyway a good training to collect experiences trading small ranges and moves.
Now the vola did increase from previously 50 to appr. > 100 pips a day.

Hint: set the request to duration of 1 or 2 weeks, to get actual values.
I regret, that the hiddenpending does not work on multiple charts of the same symbol, but it doesn´t matter by using further accounts.
In reference to my published Chart from afternoon (screenshot 4:03 pm recorded), the price in the meantime did slightly go long as expected.
Now the European market-places are closed.
We will see, what will be happen at 8:00 pm, when the NYSE-traders come back from lunch.
Have fun…and success …
Trade well my friends
