SERIOUS WARNING

• Most Forex traders lose all their money.

Shelley (fxozgirl) contacted me a couple of days ago with a mouth-watering proposal for an EA. Her full pm is in post 2; this includes a couple of pictures of trade setups. Here is a précis of the trading method:

• Time frame: H4
• Trend determination:
  • 60 period LWMA > 240 period LWMA: market is trending up and we are looking for buys when the market is above the 60.
  • 60 period LWMA < 240 period LWMA: market is trending down and we are looking for sells when the market is below the 60.
  • no trade when the market is in between the 240 and 60.
• There are two entry methods:
  • Main entry based on a cross of the 60 from below in an uptrend and above in a downtrend, using RSI-TMA Slope (shown by the '10.4 4H RSI2' indi).
  • Re-entry, when the market is the correct side of the 60 for trading but there is no cross of the 60. The trigger is a combination the direction of the previous two candles and Stochastic.

Shelley's pm arrived just at the right moment. I have been working with the 60 period Moving Average quite a lot of late, and have begun to recognise how powerful it is. Coincidentally, I had coded something similar to BASA, using the 240 and 20 MA's on the H4, trading the cross of the 20 when CSS agrees and setting up a grid of subsequent pending trades to scale into a larger position in a big move. This is holding its own on demo but is not ready for release yet.

I coded a semi-auto trader for a private recently week, based on trading long above the 60 and short below it. I turned this into an auto-trader and set it loose on demo on Friday. Too early to tell whether the EA will be a successful auto-trader, but it is fascinating to drag a 60 MA onto an H4 chart and see how rarely there is a cross of it and a change of trend direction.

So, I am a tad excited by Shelley's ideas. Let's see if we can make this one into a winner.

BASA has undergone been considerable development and continues to be successful. There can be a problem with the opening times of the H4 candle because different brokers have different opening times; this can have a dramatic effect on the success of trading.

Hi Steve, hope you've been keeping well?

You know I like to keep my strategies really, REALLY simple...as a result, I've been playing around with Bob's Simple 10.4 and trying to customise it to suit my available screen time (I only have about an hour in the morning & a couple of hours at night to look for setups, monitor etc.) & in my part of the world.

So....

I was wondering if you could help me with some coding? Actually I have had a go myself using an EA building software (it's bare bones just to see if I could get something working), but it's very glitchy & doesn't always work as I intend (actually it's probably not glitchy at all, it's almost completely my lack of comprehension ). I've also tried to incorporate the 10.4 TMA RSI Slope indicator but I'm getting error messages saying the file can't be opened (I've attached the EA's for a laugh ...that's right I've done 2 as I didn't know how to incorporate both types of trade entry into 1 EA ) With that being said the EA is taking trades, although not quite accurately & often takes 2 trades the same at the same time.

With Bob's Simple 10.4, he has discovered that using the 240 LWMA & the 60 LWMA on a 4H chart is an excellent indicator of trend direction (as an alternative to using CSS)...if the 60 LWMA is below the 240 LWMA, then the trend is down and if the 60 LWMA is above the 240 LWMA then the trend is up. Bob then goes to the 1H chart and places pendings using pivots or S/R levels...this is the point where I'm either missing setups or missing opportunities to close trades. For the time I have available, the 4H chart works best for me, it allows me to let my trades run (ala Gday) & it also means I don't have to check my trades as often.

It appears that once price crosses the 60 LWMA it generally continues in the direction of the identified trend (this is where we are looking to place our trades), when price crosses back between the 60 & 240 LWMA's it is in 'no man's land' and we shouldn't be trading.

So, I am using the LWMA's on the 4H chart to determine the trend, then using price crossing the 60 LWMA in conjunction with the TMA-RSI Slope indicator to enter trades. This is what I call a 'main' entry. I am then using the Sto 5 indicator after a pullback in price to re-enter back into the trend.

At this stage I am using MPTM to manage the trades, with BE +2 set at 30 pips, then a JS of 50. SL is set at 100.

Given, this is used on the 4H chart, it definitely won't be a trading beast, however I am looking for quality not quantity.

The rules are as follows:

LWMA CROSS with RSI_Main Entry

BUY RULES

Trade Set Up - Main Entry:

1. 4H Chart
2. LWMA 60 must be above LWMA 240 (indicating an uptrend)
3. RSI must be below 10

Main Entry:
Enter trade at start of new candle if
1. Candle (shift 2) must close below LWMA 60
2. Candle (shift 1) must close above LWMA 60
3. RSI must be below 10 (shift 3) - I have coded my EA to enter at shift 3, but ideally it would be fine to enter if TMA-RSI slope was below 10 anywhere in the previous 3 candles (I didn't know how to code this)
4. BE 30 +2, SL 100, JS 50

Re-entry:
1. Candle (shift 2) must have closed LOW
3. Candle (shift 1) must close HIGH

I do not enjoy preparing post 1. I really hate spotting and correcting the bloops that creep in because preparing post 1 pisses me off so much.

even though the indicator is in the folder and i have restarted the platform.

Sometimes on startup, Empty4 fails to compile the source code with the extension .ql4 into the executable file with the extension .ex4

Try right-clicking the indi in your Navigation window and select 'Modify' if this is available. If so, Empty4's CrapperEditor will open the file. Hit the F5 key to compile properly then close the editor.

If 'Modify' is not available, then your download failed, so re-download the indi from post 1.

i opened the indicator with metaeditor and did the f5 compile thing, no errors or warnings, restarte dthe platform, same error message. then removed both the mq4 and ex4 version of the indicator and redownloaded from post 1, started Empty4 again, same error

any suggestions? many thanks
