You guys did not lose this game. In the event of a tie of a tie of a tie, there has to be some method of sorting out the difference. We somehow came out on the best side.
Mind, we had that outrageous piece of good luck when the ball found its way to the boundary via a brilliant throw from the outfield that hit Stokes' bat. You would have been laughed out of the room had you presented that as a potential TV drama.
Years ago you would have won the moment my guys' innings finished - you lost fewer wickets.
This year, the ICC found a different way to separate us.
So, you Kiwis did not lose the game. Us Brits did not win it. Somehow us Brits ended up with the trophy.
Try explaining that to a noob to cricket.
One of the two greatest games I have ever seen (Headingly 1981 being the other). Thanks to you guys from the other bit of Upside Down Land for a wonderful day.
Read the effing manual, ok?

If you talk with any quantum physicist, they'll tell you we're having "birthdays" more often than a femtosecond. So, as I wish you a belated Happy "Birthday," Steve, you'll note the quotes to keep the physicists happy, too.
