What are the best filters and triggers?

Post by tomele »

Hey, all you brilliant brains at SHF.

In preparation for a new little EA project, I would love to get your opinion.

- What do you think are good trade triggers on the trading timeframe?
- What do you think are good directional filters on higher timeframes?

If you choose "Another indicator", please elaborate and write an answer in this thread.

And of course I would like to read every idea you want to contribute. No knee capping.

Thanks for attending.

What are the best filters and triggers?

Hi Thomas,

I follow Steve and Co since a while now, since the Forex factory period. I learnt a lot with all of you, especially about mql4 programming with EA like Awesome for example. I do not like using something I do not 100% understand (HGI) , this is why I decided to add a new feature in awesome based on momentum, a ratio between Macd and Bollinger Band level. This is my trigger and allows most of the trades to be very quickly in positive situation, Breakeven follows as it is not a big deal if the trades are sometimes closed at BE+1 or BE+2 as there are many many trades in a day. Those which are negative will be recovered (Recovery) or will be recovered with the fill the gap process.
The daily superslope gives very quickly a very good idea for the trend and minimise the counter-trades number.
Awesome EA allowed me to test this strategy with a lot of money management options and it seems working quite well. I know I still have progress to do in money management but it is the next step.
I am still in test-phase with this 100% automated process, I just added the nuclear option that takes also into account the opened trades, the equity growth is the only important parameter for me, I hoped it will be used this week...
This MM is according to me a very important point, to close every day as soon as 0,25% is done is the target or 1% a week.

Thanks for your work !

Visually I am a big fan of the McGinley Dynamic for long term trends. In my opinion it cannot be beaten. You can find it on TradingView charts. Never found it for (Empty4)

Hi DC.

When you search in forexfactory for thread 204858, is the result the indi you meant? How do you use it? Slope or price above/below?

Thank you for the reference to that indicator. It looks pretty close. I try not to spend much time on FF if at all possible.

I use the MG 7/14 as a cross on the daily and/or H4 for trend direction. I've never been able to figure out a hard and fast rule to use it in an algo however.

Hi tomele,

I 'm testing a system with SS W1 as filter and RSIOMA as trigger on TF H4.
