Hi,
I'm back after a long pauze and noticed the old Empty4's don't update to the latest version.
I tried to de the same as before; tell the installer in what directory the new Empty4 needs to go, but I can't specify this anymore?
Can some-one shine a little light in the dark for me?
Thanks!

Installing several Empty4's
Hi Gerte, hope I can be of some help
When I install a new version of GP have it install in a directory of my choosing (example c:\Global Prime Demo1) but do 'not startup'.
Then I go to:
ALL PROGRAMS and RIGHT click on the Global Prime Empty4 icon.
Under properties am amend the target by typing '/portable' at the end
eg.
"C:\Global Prime Demo1 - Empty4 4\terminal.exe" /portable
This means that all the GP program files are local (in that same drive). All my GP account update automatically with this setup and its also easy to find the EA files.
Hope this helps, cheers Richard

Older versions of the Empty4 installer allowed us to choose the directory for new Empty4 installations. The latest one appears not to.
I assumed it was something I had done wrong when downloading the new GP installer and happily was able to revert to a previous one. I attach it here in case it can help you. Change the "mq4" filename extension to "exe" so it will run. There is not a forum in the universe that will allow the disemmination of .exe files, so I renamed it.
Jem, the least we can expect to do with the bollocks that is shitt4 is to be able to install the damn thingy in the directory of our choice.

Yes. Please do. The least control people should have is where a piece of software is installed. I have emailed Jem. He will be along soon, or one of his buddies at GP.rapple » Wed Mar 09, 2016 10:17 pm wrote:I see the issue now Gerte and Steve,

Hi guys,
You certainly can still install to a new directory from the installer. Just click the 'settings' button.
Very counter-intuitive in typical MQ style.
I've attached a screenshot showing how to do it just in case.
Cheers

Couldn't make it a tad on the less counter-intuitive side could you? Like as in screamingly obvious? Or defaulting to we chose where we want the blasted thingy to go? That is leaving aside that I do not remember ever seeing the screen that you post in your picture. It is a few weeks ago, but I am tolerably sure I might have noticed that 'settings' button in your picture on the fifth time around trying to set up a blasted demo that I could reasonably access without hunting through a billion Crapdows folders to find the one I needed because the setup program did not allow me so specify..........etc. Do I need go on?
Do any of you guys ever try signing up for a GP demo account as a stranger? From an unrelated computer to GP? Ditto IP addy? You should. It is the only way you guys have of knowing what happens to the rest of us. Just because stuff happens seamlessly and flawlessly where you sit, does not mean it happens thus to the rest of us. And yes, I know I am hanging myself out to dry here; I have my defense already prepared.
This thread will pass into oblivion. Give it a few weeks after that and someone else here at shf will be asking why he/she cannot choose the installation folder.
Frankly, when the outdated installation file the rest of us are using fails because it is no longer 'supported' by the Cretins at Crapperquotes, that someone might well be me. I am not entirely sure that the best interests of the broker that this forum publicly supports are served by the forum owner asking, "Ehup guys. How do I set up my demo account in such a way that I can access the folders I have stored all the EA's I have coded for public consumption in the last 10 years? They appear to have gone missing."
Over to you.

We sure do, all the time which is why we have those screenshots and process saved as a draft response for clients asking about it. I think people are just used to clicking next on installers way too quickly. At the same time it's not the smartest place to hide the Choose Folder setting.SteveHopwood » Thu Mar 10, 2016 10:50 am wrote:Do any of you guys ever try signing up for a GP demo account as a stranger?
