Different sort of BASA

Post by SteveHopwood »

SERIOUS WARNING
  • Most Forex traders lose all their money.
  • Using the robot posted here in trading Forex does not guarantee success.
  • Trading this robot could lead to serious financial loss.
  • Trading this robot without understanding its underlying trading strategies guarantees traders will lose their money.
  • This is not a set-and-forget ea; there is no such thing and anyone who tries to claim there is, is either stupid or lying. This ea requires frequent manual intervention.
  • At best, a trading robot is only 90% as good as the manual strategy it trades. At best. At worst, it can be much less effective. If the strategy is rubbish, so is the robot.
  • To trade this robot, you have to understand:
I am not yet trading this EA on my live account

RxCape sent me this pm on Friday:

I have been testing BASA and at the same time examining a couple of different entry criteria. In particular I have been visually testing the idea of entering on the first open and close, in the trend direction, outside an envelope surrounding the 240 MA trend line. This is slightly different than Shelley's entry criteria. In my visual inspection, this gives pretty good entries. This is really a Momentum / Breakout entry tacked onto Shelley's idea. I have shared this idea with Shelley and indicated that I would continue to inspect it.

Specifically: I have set up the 240 moving average with an envelope based upon a 100 period ATR. A picture is attached. In the attached indicator, the ATR period and ATR multiplier are variable.

I have been using an indicator on my charts to visually represent the envelope. I have attached it here.

I realize it is possible to create this slightly different BASA, but do you have an interest in doing so?
Here is the pic that RxCape sent to illustrate the entries:
BASA GU 240 envelope.JPG
So, the only difference between this EA and BASA is this: The Main Entry is based on the envelope; everything else is as expected in BASA. If any of you have been living on Mars recently, visit http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... f=5&t=2759 and download the User Guide for details.

I have attached the indi that RxCape sent me to display the envelope. DBASA will work without it - the code to calculate the envelope bands is within the bot.

Take the bot for a spin and see how it goes.

Thanks Steve for coding this...RxCape shared this with me a couple of weeks ago & it looks interesting! Now that you have graciously coded it into an Ea we can see if there are improved benefits with it.

Steve:

Perhaps you could take a look at this for me. In order to accelerate testing a bit, I have been running this on a 1H chart, using the 120 LWMA as the trend rather than a 240. Same concept, just faster action.

I am getting Main Trades and Re-entry trades as expected. When I get a Stack trade, both the main or re-entry trade and the stack trade are closing on the candle that triggered the stack trade. The stack trade stop loss appears to be set correctly. Attached is a screenshot for illustration and a set file for this particular chart. I can't seem to find a reason in the settings.

Thanks for any help.

Tom

The only difference between this BASA and the original is the Main Trade, so I do not know why those trades closed.

V 1a is in post 1, with the same fixes for the stack basket trailing stop Tommaso found in the BASA thread.

Thanks Steve. I made the changes manually last evening and watched the CADJPY kick off a stack trade. Both trades closed two candles later when the market retraced to the basket break even line. It appears that the stacking fix worked.
