Boinvests Holy Grail Playground

Post by boinvest »

Disclaimer: all Steve's warnings pertaining to EAs apply.

In this topic, I will share some of my EAs which trade the Holy Grail Indicator.

Intro:
This all started a couple of weeks ago, when I started using the HGB on my demo account.
From the trades on my account I saw some room from "improvements".
That's when I started to modify the HGB, with the best intensions to help Steve to improve his great piece of art, and an already terrific EA. For some time, we've worked along in this EA.
Untill the moment came we had a different insight on the bot.
It was time to seperate roads, so no I have my own thread.
I already had some plans to create my own EA which trades the HGI signals in a bit different way.
But for now I am continuing development of a slightly different version of the HGB.
As I have deep respect for the man behind this forum.
I have to make clear that these 2 EA's are DIFFERENT.
And the last thing I want is to have questioning/arguing like, this one is better than ....
So SHF members, now you have 2 different tastes to choose from..
Just pick the taste you prefer.. (Coca cola or Pepsi)

The Method:
I've renamed the bot to BoHGB.
This one is using the HGI Library instead of the indicator.
Make sure you have the "hgi_lib.ex4" file placed in the Libraries folder.
I didn't bother to make a user manual.
This EA is trading the HGI signals. In it's current form, it is trading the signals straight forward.
In the future I want to create alternative Entry and exit strategies.
Based on my analysis of the charts. And move it into a modified shell.

In the future I will share here my other project which also trades HGI Signals.
But coded in a different Shell, and a different implementation of the HGI signals.

Version 2X
Is the "final" version. Merging the BoHGB and BoHGB mod 1.
This one will be supported untill the next major release with the new shell is finished.

Do not PM me when: you have...
* a windows problem
* a problem or "improvement" for the HGI
* A request for a very complicated and yet unproven filter idea for one of my EA's
* Your wife is complaining that you are spending to much time on this forum
:yahoo:

Credits & Thanks:
1)Steve Hopwood for this Amazing forum.
2)Nanningbob, Milanese, Elixe, for creating the HGI.
3)Trendinator, for putting out a great HGB Forward test.
4)To all SHF members: you are a great community to belong to!,

P.S. Please do not complain about missed signals, understand the workings first.
cheers :!!:

Reserved space

Ok. lets use this reserved space to tell a bit about me.
I am here on this forum to contribute learn and grow.
As I believe together we can achieve more then one single person.
Hopefully you are here for the same reasons.

I take my precious time, to share and post my work.
Which I do for above reasons, although it would sometimes be easier, faster not to share my work.
But I believe in the power of a community. :yahoo:

I am very open minded, and respectful.
I really appreciate that you take your most precious asset, your time, to read this. :youknow: And your feedback..
As I said, I am here to learn. English is not my native language. And I know I do make mistakes sometimes, specifically when I am in a hurry. Sometimes I could not be bothered with this.
I just want to get the word out as fast as possible. I appreciate all the feedback, this includes the feedback on my grammar.

Most of the stuff I am sharing here, is open source.
And took me a lot of time to develop. I have to admit, that I am human and tend to make mistakes sometimes.
As everyone can see the source code here... If I write that a banana is a vegetable, and you (obviously) say I am wrong. I would be the last one to argue with you,
I would happily adapt your change, and say its fruit. ; :good:

As you question the code, please think twice, before posting your suggestion.
I've been there, and made a post of what I thought was a bug.. And I was wrong..
Wasted my time, and that of others around here. :arrrg:

For future feature, filter requests..and stuff
Well, I am open to good suggestions.. But I do know, I can't incorporate them all.
If you have a suggestion, please post it, with reasoning, remarks, and possibly pictures.
And we'll see if we can implement it.

Let's make a lot of money and learn from each other!

dear boinvest - first of all thanks for all the coding work on HGI...

My I suggest that you name your HGI EAs differently to Steve's - he just published v2p as well and there are differences between these versions (maybe abbreviate to bi_HGI or something) - I am afraid that the noobies will mix them up and drive Steve & you up the wall eventually...

Cheers / Mop

PS: Hope you will share your shell EA as well...

Hello boinvest HGB 2o posted last in HGB thread by you is still firing duplicate trades without SL. First trend trade and next trend multi trade were triggered correctly at 135.80,135.60 then two trend multi trades at 135.40 and again two trend multi trades at 135.20 without SL (i have set 100). I wonder if it has been corrected in latest EAs posted in this thread. Thanks
EDIT: I have replaced HGB 2o with HGB 2p. Lets see how it goes.

Later on I will post a new version. Still based on steves work.
Only not using the HGI indi but the library. As I think this might improve performance.
There are just some minor things I need to take care of..

Boinvest, in the versions of the EAs that you develop in this thread, set the defaults for what you believe would give the best results, please. Or perhaps, state when not sure, the ranges for the variables in the description of the variables.

I've updated post 1 a bit.
Renamed the EA, Uploaded verion 1q. Which now uses the Library instead of the Indicator.
Make sure you have the "hgi_lib.ex4" file placed in the Libraries folder.

Knut
Well, to be honest, I don't have the whole settings of my likings figured out.
So, for most part, I am looking at what Steve is doing and expect much value from Trendinator's work inthe Great HGB Forward test.

From my own experience,
I notice that there are some periods when wavys are shown very close to each other in the charts.
These might not be the kind of trades you would like to take.
Therefore I would like to use a WaveMinDistanceBetweenTrades from 60-100.

Personally at this moment I don't like how the EA is taking the yellow Wavy buy range trades.
At this moment, nothing changed. The EA takes them the same as the HGB.
But as I have my own bot now, Maybe I'll take these kinds of trades out.
As I think the performance could benefit based on the data I have available.

I am very curious of the results from the modded version.
Since that this one is only entering on the Blue wavys.
From all the discussions here, and my own observations of the charts.
This could bring great results.

I also like to counter close the trades by a opposite signal.
But in it's current form, this might not be the way you want to go.
As the retracement or counter signal is not always shown on the tradingtimeframe.
This is one of the thing I want to do in my own new project.

For now, I've included almost the same OOTB sets as the HGB.
More suitable for live account would maybe be a large emergency SL,
and use a form of trade management with jumping/trailling stop to lock in profits.
