Holy Graily Bob 'n Dotty

EA's inspired by nanningbob's work here, especially those based on his 240 Moving Average trend detection filter.

SERIOUS WARNING
  • Most Forex traders lose all their money.
  • Using the robot posted here in trading Forex does not guarantee success.
  • Trading this robot could lead to serious financial loss.
  • Trading this robot without understanding its underlying trading strategies guarantees traders will lose their money.
  • This is not a set-and-forget ea; there is no such thing and anyone who tries to claim there is, is either stupid or lying. This ea requires frequent manual intervention.
  • At best, a trading robot is only 90% as good as the manual strategy it trades. At best. At worst, it can be much less effective. If the strategy is rubbish, so is the robot.
  • To trade this robot, you have to understand:
MAKE SURE YOU READ THIS POST http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 41#p111241 There was a Forex bloodbath on Jan 15th 2015 that you need to know about.

HGBnD is an extension of the idea of replacing DottyBot's nonlagdot with alternative trade triggers. Details are in the user guide attached. You need to download two libraries because HGBnD will not run without them: Post 2 explains the idea I had to combine full hedging with HGI.

It can be a but of a bugger getting the bot to display the peak hilo lines (using Sixths and/or the buy low sell high filters) and chart feedback properly. If you experience difficulties:
  • load the bot into the editor
  • press the F7 key to recompile the code.
Go to this post if you are not sure how to load code into the editor: http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... ?f=21&t=64 Download the "How to edit a script code" zipfile, open it up and read the PDF.

This version is a revamp of the original, so skip the early pages. Discussion about the revamp start at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 45#p152045

The additional feature in HGBnD arises from the idea I had when GJ did its leaky toilet act after BOE cut the UK interest rates a couple of weeks ago. This was the picture-perfect leaky toilet. The market would fall, triggering sell stops. It would fill in the gaps with buy stops, then retrace just far enough to close a couple of sells and fill the pending buy stops. I cannot remember what the imbalance was, but probably about 20+ buys against 5 or so sells.

My idea to deal with this was:
  • Wait for the next retrace.
  • Hope that retrace was sufficient to generate and HGI H4 sell signal.
  • Take a hedging sell so the I had an equal buy lots and sell lots open. Remove DB from the chart and manage the position manually.
  • Hope the market fell and await an HGI H4 buy signal, then:
    • Close the hedging sell and grab the profit.
    • Close whatever number of worst performing buys can be closed at <= the sell hedge profit.
Looking back on the H4 I missed the opportunity to close the sell hedge at what would have been a decent profit where the yellow range wavy lines appear at the lowest point the leaky toilet reached. The trade would have been losing by the time the Buy signals appeared, so I left it open.

The leaky toilet reversed, so I reloaded DB and she started offsetting buys. Eventually I found myself with 5 open buys and 23 open sells, one of which is the 0.25 lots hedge. I took the first RAD buy signal and opened a full buy hedge to equalise the lots over buys and sells.

The leaky toilet has continued. Currently the sells are at -$3386 and the buys at just shy of +$1,600, leaving the difference between them of c.-$1790. The rise has filled four more buy stops and so the position is unbalanced again, but the DD drops slightly with every upward push.

The first HGI H4 sell/range signal I see will prompt me to close the large buy trade and as many of the biggest losing sells as possible. I will restart DB and let her continue with her offsetting. I can probably rinse and repeat this for some time until it becomes possible to close the entire position.

:xm:

Edit 1st November 2016:
The strategy was a triumph. The market did the Plunge and the Plummet dance and several more sell stop stops filled. The yellow dashed line marks the candle during which I closed everything down:
And finally.png
You can see that I did not wait for a new HGI signal. The profit from the GJ positions was over $1,200 so I decided not to be greedy. I used some of the profit to close down all my other trades so I could knock off for the week and enjoy a rare, flat weekend. I emerged from the whole business just shy of +$870.

I have done a lot of work on HGBnD this weekend because I decided to add the extra offseting. Details in post 1.

I have left him at V1. You will know your download has been successful if you see the new OffsetOppositeLosersAgainstProfit input.

I have spent a lot of time debugging in Crapergy Tester so the code is robust so far as I can tell.

V 1a is in post 1 with the changes I describe in the Dottybot thread. I have also added the gap-filling stuff from Experimental.

Results last week:
XAUUSDH4.png
Start balance $10,000. Balance $10,110. DD -$193. Margin level 26,149%

There is a full GJ hedge open, so looking forward to seeing how HGBnD copes.

Fascinating times indeed. The increasing sophistication of the top tier of SHF members helps quite a lot.
