I looked into the ADX that Steve inplemented, but saw that it would open a trade once in a while when set to the Daily figures.

Would it be possible to use the M1, M5 or M15 for the ADX and get it to trigger the sending of a basket during the day?

Gertje, just had a look at your chart, had you place another grid at the DO upon return every time that grid would have been done and dusted for a profit...

I have also been placing another grid at the ADR's when turning red from that great indicator you posted.

That got me out of this trade smartish... :yahoo:
ADR.jpg
I figured once ADR is hit one two things are going to happen, firstly and the nightmare is for price to go south, nightmare should it happen because now I'm sat on a ton of buys and not enough sells, a grid here will severely elevate that problem, secondly and is what happened here price will continue to rise so any extra buys will soon get the grid closed as demonstrated in the picture.

Gertje, to be honest I am not using the ADX feature for two reasons. Firstly to me this is pretty much a pure price action system and the ADX I personally feel is a lagging indicator. It is great for those guys who like the ADX and many do, it's just not for me.

I am still looking at many other price action triggers such as S/R and engulfing candles @ those levels, still in testing.

I'm getting my boat ready for a big river crossing tomorrow going from one canal system to another via a tidal estuary so won't be doing too much for the next few days.

I have to confess I had to follow the link Steve posted to get to know what it was... :arrrg:

COOL!
So you do actually live on a boat.
Is it a traditional 'narrowboat' or a different model?

I looked into hiring such boat for a holiday, but am afraid the boys [8,9 and 11] are getting bored.

Love this EA - I was running the early versions with MPBM to manage. Now this is more or less incorporated in Greedy, really helps not having to use so many charts.

However, is it possible to also have the Global Stop Loss alongside the Global Target functions? This would allow exit from that occasional basket that goes in the wrong direction and get on with the next opportunity.

My thanks particularly to Steve and Gertje but all the other constructive traders and happy gridders here. You know what happens when you passgo!

Hi Guys,

I agree, I don't think the ADX is useful for this. We miss out on the good pips if we wait for the ADX to give a signal. I like the idea of adding a new full grid if price returns to DO, but I also keep on having Gertje's GN trade in the back of my mind :? .

Zennor have a fun boat ride

Been a few days since anyone posted on here, you guys must be making so many pips it has struck you all dumb :yahoo:

Or more likely is that you are seeing some draw-down and think that the system has no legs. On that point I would have to disagree, remember this is a testing system and I think that we all agree that DD with this system can be quite daunting.

Having spent a fair bit of time looking at this problem I firmly believe that the only aspect this system needs now is a viable Stop Loss function to reduce the hefty draw-downs.

Where possible I have manually been closing down trades whenever 3 grids have triggered irrespective of direction on the furthest grid from the last activation.

Let me explain, say the grid goes down 3 grids, upon the activation of the 3rd grid a Stop is placed at the first sell grid.

Price goes down one grid and up two grids, SL placed at the first Sell grid. If price goes up 3 grids SL placed at first buy grid, price goes up 4 grids SL placed at 2nd grid and so on a bit like a trailing SL.

A good example of this is today's GBPNZD Chart, price went down one grid @ GP time 0400, price then retraced and hit second buy grid @ 0700, at this time a SL would be activated and place at the Sell grid activation. Price went up to 3rd buy grid, SL moved to first buy activation, then just jumped up one grid at a time as each subsequent buy trade was activated, this trade went onto win without ever bothering the SL

Now the reason I believe this may work is due to the huge amount of trades which hit TP with no problems, also there is a high probability that every trade will be closed either for a loss or win by the end of the day enabling fresh trades to recoup the small amount of losses.

Further to my last and as a casing point would you rather have chart one or two.

First chart was closed at a 3 grid SL. The small loss of just over £26 and is easily recouped by just one win trade.

Second one could have been closed out at a similiar SL but I missed it and now sat on rather a juicy DD of over £500.

Seems to make sense.

I would also like to see a global stop loss function in pips and cash. Then we can set the risk we are comfortable with, shut a losing basket, and be ready to take the next trade.

I have been watching the ADX indicator which seems to always be green when I look - I am going to start playing with the ADX level. Can I check whether my logic could be a way to avoid ranging markets - instead of setting a pending grid for a pair by time would it be possible to set to trade for 24 hours and set a higher ADX so that a pending grid would be sent when volatility increases. Of course the next question would be what ADX? If the predicated volatility doesn't follow through and no pending orders are filled, the pending grid could be removed after a certain amount of time had elapsed.
