CSS WITH HGI
Sorry to sound so stupid, but I always thought that the css was 'built' into HGI's major trend signals (I.e wavey line/big arrow). Is this not the case?

No, not stupid, HGI and CSS use different numbers and formulas to make it work.james666 » Fri Jul 15, 2016 2:24 pm wrote:Sorry to sound so stupid, but I always thought that the css was 'built' into HGI's major trend signals (I.e wavey line/big arrow). Is this not the case?
CSS (Currency Slope Strength) compares all currencies with each other and converts them to one line or one math number for each currency. It then draws a line based on that number. Those lines then are compared to each other so as to compare comparative strength of each currency to each other currency. It does not measure volatility. So a currency maybe the strongest or weakest but that does not mean it will move a lot or it will move a little. Volatility is another matter. I use this to go look where to trade and prefer the Daily CSS reads but use 4H CSS reads when a super story ruins the reads of the DAILY.
HGI also uses the CSS reads but on per pair basis so it is comparing the two currencies against each other rather than the entire market even though market numbers are involved. This way if eur/cad is going up but usd/cad is going down it doesnt skew the comparison on a single pair chart when comparing the cad to the eur and the cad to the usd. So CSS read on the cad maybe ranging because eur/cad maybe trend up and usd/cad trend down. CSS then gives a range signal. HGI will put the emphasis on each individual pair and you can get a trend up signal on the eur/cad and a downtrend signal on the usd/cad.
To get HGI to do this I had to change the math numbers so eur/cad is UT and usd/cad is DT instead of range signals that the CSS might give. Believe me it tooks hours and hours every day for weeks to get this to mesh.
So CSS reads and HGI reads are different. That is why I use CSS to tell me where to look and HGI to tell me when to enter and exit. They may sound the same but they are different. CSS is overview, HGI is specific.

Makes perfect sense. Can't believe I've been only using HGI - some visual back tests show that if I'd used CSS also, I would have done a lot better! You're a total legend! I've learnt more about trading from this forum than any seminar, course or mentor could ever teach me. And it's all free!
You have some losers along with your winners - are those trades you've manually closed out when the yellow wavy arrow presents itself, or do you use CSS to determine closing your position also. I am aware that you don't use a stop loss (correct me if im wrong).

OK. Getting better every week. Looking forward to getting my first 1000 pip week. Learned something really important about HGI but first the totals:
All Trades
Trades Total: 44
Trades Won: 28
Trades Lost: 16
Trades Even: 0
Max Profit: 177 pips
Max Loss: -112 pips
Avg Profit: 50 pips
Avg Loss: -32 pips
Total Pips: 874.9
As some of you know I like to trade session opens. JPY session for 3-4 hours, EURO session 2-3 hours, and USA session for 3 hours and quit. I also did some AUD session for 2 hours this week a couple of times. I learned something real fast and boy was it nice. When those big arrows come up and there are 3-5 to one currency pair like GBP. Load up the bank because its going to move. Early in the week I was in the JPY session and all of a sudden GBP/NZD, GBP/JPY, GBP/AUD went bing bing bing within 5 minutes of each other. Well dang I watched to see what would happen and sure enough they moved strong up. Didnt trade them but just watched to see what was happening. Well I said OK see what happens.
Next day at the AUD open sure enough 4 AUD pairs gave me arrows so I played all four and bingo within minutes they were all in profit and hour or so later were all up 30+ pips. Later in the day in the EURO session all six GBP pairs fired off and I took 3 of them and they shot up over hundred pips in the next two hours. I began to watch this phenomenon and came up to some theories which I will try out this week.
When a currency moves at the beginning or just before a session and HGI sends 3 or more as a buy or a sell. Its moving baby so jump on board. I watched the GBP move early in the week. Caught a AUD move and finished later in the week a strong JPY move. Bombed out on a NZD one that did that but it was out of session and I shouldnt have taken it. So this week when I get chance I will try this:
AUD-NZD session---look to see if any aud or nzd pairs set off the arrows or blue wavy lines and enter if 3 or more pairs send arrows or wavy lines. Close 1-2 hours into the session
JPY session--Play JPY, AUD, NZD pairs to move during the first hour before/after the open close out 2-3 hours later.
EURO session--play GBP, CHF, and EURO pairs. Best moves came 2 hours after EURO open and close hour before USA session.
USA session--Play any pairs and take trades on currencies that gave at least 2-4 signals. Close out at EURO close and done. Winners or losers close out unless playing long term trades.
I did this using only the 4H signals so some sessions I had not trades. This week going to try 1H charts and see if at the beginning of a session I get multiple signals to trade a currency that is on the move. They come in bunches and quite quickly and seemed to work. We will see.

CSS WITH HGI
See above post but I experimented some this week and even if long term trades looked they would profit I closed them this week at my session closing times. 3 or 4 trades were mistakes and taken back off the board quickly so that makes my total losing trades more than usual. I am entering trades manually off of my cell phone so only have one screen on at a time. Sometimes I have the wrong pair on the screen and take a trade by accident or entered it the wrong direction. That 100+ plus loser was one of those. Basically I am trading off of signals and not the charts so this is interesting. Not much thinking just... Oh buy gbp/nzd, then gbp/aud pops up and then gbp/jpy OK OK I get it Buy all three plus gbp/usd just for the heck of it. Entered one wrong direction or I might have made 1000 pips this week.james666 » Fri Jul 15, 2016 7:00 pm wrote:Makes perfect sense. Ok I'm learning to read 4h CSS chart which differs from reading daily CSS. The nuances are different. Daily CSS involves a currency being on top or bottom for weeks or months at a time. So you trade that one direction until is goes back to center.
The 4h CSS is a different animal and you read it different. Here a currency reaches the top or bottom for only a day or a couple of days and then changes. So instead of a currency being strong/ weak all month here it's a day or so. That leads me to read it different so the most important thing to know is: ta da...... Once a currency gets to the top or bottom the move is done and it's too late. So what is more important is the angle up or down and the crosses.
So simply put JPY and CHF angling up so look to buy from them. All others angling down so look to sell those except USD which is hiding in the middle. I would look for buy signals for JPY and CHF with JPY offering the strongest against AUD NZD GBP. CHF may have a days worth of steam left in it or it maybe done.
AUD NZD sells look to reign early in the week. CAD, EUR and GBP look like they will be good sells early in the week also.
USD muddling in the middle waiting for a push.
So if HGI starts giving you JPY and CHF buy (or sells if it's the second pair of that currency) load em up and run. Same with AUD and NZD sells. Let's see if I can break the 1000 pip barrier this week.

I can probably guess - buy CHF or sell USDCHF. Keep an eye on AUDjpy ( any yen pair
As yen is creeping up, aud is dipping.
Let's see what the new week brings!

Oh for those who know me guess which pair I took the 112 pip loss on ................................................................................................
Yup you got it GBP/CHF. What other currency screws me over more than that one.

CSS WITH HGI
Hey Bob,
Congrats on another week of nice pips! It was beyond fun following the system this week, made some good profit myself.
I have a follow-up on the previously posted question about letting the trades run for only a couple of hours. Why not let the trades run until the HGI says it's time to close, especially if you're using the H4 chart for the signals? Have you previously tried that and found that closing out before the session ends seems to capture the majority of the movement?
The second question is about the daily CSS. When do you think it will be usable again? And have you moved on to the D1 charts with the HGI when the D1 CSS is fully functional?
EDIT: One last question. Are the (daily/weekly/monthly) pivot points included in the HGI or could they also be useful determining potential exits?
All the best,
Robert
