EA's inspired by nanningbob's work here, especially those based on his 240 Moving Average trend detection filter.

Hi gang,

My week #1 GBPUSD test results are in. The star of the week was the 15 Minute chart using my original settings with 151 pips profit.

Results by Magic Number:
5 ---- 5 Minute / SS Filter: 15 Min. 20 Periods ---- Minus 42 pips
6 ---- 5 Minute / SS Filter: 1 Hour 6 Periods ---- Minus 68 pips

15 ---- 15 Minute / SS Filter: 1 Hour 20 periods ---- + 151 pips
16 ---- 15 Minute / SS Filter: 4 Hour 6 periods ---- Minus 19 pips

30 ---- 30 Minute / SS Filter: 1 Hour 20 Periods ---- + 62 pips
31 ---- 30 Minute / SS Filter 4 Hour 6 Periods ---- + 33 pips

60 ---- 1 Hr / SS Filter : 4 Hour 20 Periods ---- Minus 21 pips
61 ---- 1 Hr / SS Filter: 1 Day 6 Periods ---- Minus 13 pips

240 ---- 4 Hr / SS Filter: Daily 20 Periods ---- Minus 13 pips
241 ---- 4 Hr / SS Filter: Weekly 5 Periods ---- - No trades

Side Notes: I was trying to take every trade:
TakeEverySignal=true
max trades = 5
Distance between signals=0
use ATR to Calculate Min Distance=false
Min. Minutes between trades=0

Closing trades on first opposite FB signal with no SL, regardless of Super Slope color.

What I found is that a lot of trades weren't taken, especially on the 5 Min. charts. The 5 Min. charts would have recovered a lot of lost pips at the end of the week if the trades had been taken.
The number of the things I could have done wrong in the setup are pretty much unlimited, but I noticed I had MaxSlippagePips set to 2400, so for next week I'm going to lower that to 300 to see if it makes a difference.

Side Notes: I've done a lot of manual testing of this strategy with GBPUSD, where you go back and look at every old chart and pretend that the signals that showed up would have all really popped up exactly in the same place and you would have been able to take every trade perfectly. While it doesn't give real results, it does show patterns and give you ideas. For example, you pop this strategy back onto a 4 hour chart from 2010, and you have a tidy profit of over 4,000 pips for the year. :clap: I could retire on that reliability.
Fast forward to 2016, and after a tidy profit of over 500 pips in January, you have three consecutive losing months to the tune of about 2400 pips. If you started trading during those three months (which coincidentally were the months leading up to the Brexit vote), would you have thrown out the strategy? Incredibly, even with those horrific 3 months, my pretend account still would have been up 3,000 pips by the end of the year.

During those same three months the 4 hour chart was losing its shirt, the 1 hour chart was showing a small profit, so the idea of trading different time frames on the same pair as a way to even out some of the risk holds promise.

I think the EA has tremendous promise, so thanks again to Steve, Thomas, TJF, Leon for his trading smarts, and everyone else who has helped on this. :clap: :clap: :clap:

Here is my test. I wouldn't pay too much attention to the numbers just yet because one week on one pair is not much data.

It's just good to see that there were trades taken for all 10 set files and they seem to be doing what has been asked of them.

Last week was a choppy week on GBPJPY so these results will become more interesting if/when she decides on direction but it is encouraging to see the offsetting sets managing an early profit.

When we get to the end of April I will post individual stats for each set file so we can look at the drawdown clearly too. In the meantime you should be able to break them down by magic number following the myfxbook link below.

It has been a quiet couple of weeks, with me making it impossible for the bot to trade from Sunday to Thursday of last week. :xm:

Last week:
Last week.png
That UJ buy is right at the bottom of the chart and I have a buy stop on my live trading account, just above the trading zone line. I would have left it alone in anticipation of the market rising but it was Friday evening and the overall position was cheerfully profitable, so I closed all the trades.

Here is the progress since opening the account on 7th March:
Since starting.png
It is a $10,000 starting account and I am trading 0.1 lots on the majors and GJ. I am loving the lack of complications that arise from offsetting etc and the fact that I can trade higher lots without risking over trading. I am still trading the H1 with SS D1 as the trend setter and have intervened manually several times.

Read the effing manual, ok?

Afterprime is the official SHF broker. Read about them at https://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=175790#p175790.

I still suffer from OCCD. Good thing, really.

Anyone here feeling generous? My paypal account is always in the market for a tiny donation. pianodoodler@hotmail.com is the account.

Hi Tjf,

I see that my set has a big drawdown.

I have noticed that you have changed the Superslope highest timeframe from 1hr to 1 Day and de activated the medium timeframe on my set. I am not so sure that this would work with a scalping set ;) . Since we have the trading timeframe set at 1 minute we are sending all our troops into battle at the same time when the superslope changes in the opposite direction. And usually when the daily superslope changes it could be accompanied by a pullback which could amount to a substantial amount of pips on the longer time frame before we go back into the trend. It is for this reason that I changed the superslope to a smaller time frame so that we can catch and scalp any reversals as and when they occur. And if the entry is wrong we will be closed out for a smaller loss.

Cheers

Yes I understand (and in fact there is no open drawdown with that set currently - those losses were SL closed on Friday). I choose to standardize most of the settings across all the set files I wanted to test so that there are not unlimited variables. The purpose of that set file is to see whether using H1 HGI trend arrow as a trigger with M1 FB to scale in is viable and I thought this was an interesting proposition so wanted to include your idea in part for my test but was important for me to keep the direction in line with D1 SS.

I noted that the way you were using your set file was only following a manual decision to trade after specific HGI trend arrow signals.. not every trend arrow signal and so I can't replicate that subjectivity with a full auto setup anyway which is why I went with the direction I chose. If you have a set that is working full auto closer to the way you describe it will be interesting to compare results once we have more data.

Markets are now open so all the best this week :)

I am not going to draw any conclusions from these results until the end of April at least.

No problem Tjf. I will load a dedicated full auto set on GbpJpy so that we can compare notes. ;)

You too have a great week.

Week 2 and starting to see a bit more green.

The fact that the non sixths grid has taken an early lead is no diferent to winning a coin flip at this stage because if GBP had already reversed it would be the other way around. Also week1's biggest loser has won back more than 1200pips to flip it's story into profit :lol:

...So I stick to the end of April as the earliest date to start paying attention to any of the numbers but this is starting to get interesting at least :cheer:

Hi Tjf,

Yes it is an impressive turn around with the modified set file :clap: I particularly like your "Grid no sixths" set. I was also very successful with your set.
I ran GbpJpy hands off on my original set file and only managed to get trades on friday. Nevertheless something.

Keep up the good work. I am always following you.

Have a great weekend

In the attached tradereport the results with GBPJPY for several set files. This the result of 24/7 for Mo, Tue, Wedn, Thurs. I have still some problems with the Tradereport. Next tradereport will have improved settings. The results appear to support the good results reported earlier.

Explanation:
11 = Leon H1HGI M1 stacking
15 = H1 FB D1 SS
14 = HGBDFBSS H1 D1
08 = no grid no sixths
09 = BTiger1
02 = BE 2B Jumping Stop
04 = Grid no Sixths
