hi slowkey,

I didn't meant that the indicator per se is a bust...I just wanted to point out that for visual backtest you should activate the tmaTrueMode. This way you will see how the tma values where in real time and not smoothed like in the standard tma setting.

I still see value in your setup and also the combination with my indicator. The convergence and divergence of the three slopes show strong signals only at a later time as the standard tma suggests to show. In real time both TMA's are showing the same values. You can put two of my indicators on your chart and let one run in standard and the other in TrueMode...than you will see that the last value of both are identical...only the past bars are repainted in the original TMA-Mode that makes visual backtesting useless...that was my only point.

happy trading,

Nice thread sk. If you want to shut up any talk about repainting post screenshots of your setup as you take them and then post another one as you shut the trade. Or just set your indicator to tmaTrueMode as NT said. Look forward to seeing more of your setups.

Your fine NeoTrader ... yes it appears I have to eat some crow for not realizing that a true/false TMA switch was there and defaulted to false. However my joy in using the indicator was a result of the trades I took that were inspiring me. However I am absolutely  that I did not catch that the indicator was repainting when I posted those charts and it was in no way done to deceive anybody but just stupidity on my part. Yes if I drew some conclusions from analyzing those charts than those conclusions are suspect in regards to the indicator as displayed on the charts.

Oh and I am still using the indicator to trade. Please do not tell anybody I am leaving the switch off when I do it. It just look to pretty that way. .... Ok if I post a chart I will post it with the indicator set to true TMA so a visual back test will have authenticity. Look you are all great guys and lets see if this indicator may have some value for trading and EA's. I am glad to be a part of this community and a little humble pie is good for my soul.

Hi Slowkey,

I would agree with everybody here, you should definitely continue developping your combo Channel/CSSDiff system.

Although you did not realise straight away that the indi was repainting when true mode was not on, the bottom line is that you had made successful trades using this system.

I would humbly suggest (as NT and Jemook already suggested) not to use the indi in "repainting" mode for visual backtest explanations. However, I am also not a big fan of the non-repainting version.

Thus, as Jemook posted a few posts earlier, if your system works real time, you should consider taking a screenshot when you pull the trigger, so that it will show the current CSSDiff value, then take another screenshot whenever you exit the trade.

Cheers :D

Hi Zypip

Post by slowkey »

I have been a little tired trying to switch from staying up all night to staying up all day. So Zypip as soon as the world starts to come into focus again I will rejoin the effort here fully engaged. I have a few ideas I want to try out in regards to the indicator. Thanks for your encouragement.

Just a quick look at EURUSD. This indicator is certainly showing good divergence and convergence. This chart is in true tma mode and a period of 14 to make it a touch more reactive. Fiber has been a choppy mess of late but at the right edge of the chart I would be trading this move. The base line is turned off because clearly the divergence is between the Diff and Cross. This is where the value comes in trading the indicator I think. I scaled the indicator to a fixed level of 2 so it would be easier to see how both lines move around the zero line.

Just an edit here. The chart is a 30 min chart. It seems that price hit the s1 and slightly reversed. Pivots are simple to apply and understand. They are universally used.

New setting and peak at the all channel

Post by slowkey »

EURNZD.gif
So I have been narrowing in on some setting I like maybe not completely there yet but I find these
trade worthy. I am using an ATR of 40 and a period of 12. The chart above is in Channel All mode so if you have not looked at that mode you can see what it looks like. I have left the base line off and open to any suggestions as to whether that will cause any problems. I like the clarity of indicator which is in True TMA mode and will be left in that mode. I think what I like a lot is how the indicator relates to MACD. MACD is a fabulous indicator and its positives far out way the negatives. But two things MACD can do is what is called a reset when there is a cross back to the base line and there is at the same time no related movement in price. Sometimes you get some nice divergence but MACD in a strong trend will recross into the direction of the trend having reset itself. The other is just when you get faked out of your pants by a cross but price does not have the momentum to follow through. Experience with the indicator helps recognize patterns but the NT indicator does a nice job of alerting you to some of this in how it and MACD relate to price.

I will be cleaning up the intro to the thread just to clarify where I think we are after my debacle with not recognizing the NT indicator was not in true tma mode. However I am very encouraged by the indicator and its adaptability to setting changes. NeoTrader did a wonderful job with the feature set on this indicator. Now that I have had a chance to look at it in this mode I am encouraged that it might help in EA trend detection which was one of my goals. I have been thinking today more than trading and now I need to get about trading a little before the week ends. I like the present setting. They work well with the 15-60 minute intraday time period this strategy is for and they may not be final but very trade worthy. I will be changing the template package in the intro with the new templates with current setting and True TMA mode on. I am getting rested up after the change over from being a night owl and now more rested.

How to mark off a single time point on multi time periods

The above is how to isolate a particular candle and see where it is located on another time period if you are not familiar with how to do it. I will use this to illustrate charts some times.
