Slopey MA cross

Hi RXcape,
i tried this EA only on forward testing and had very very few trades from it. My main attempt then, if i remember correctly was to get the Slope Values correct. I never managed but i think it was best at 0.2.

I then started to play with the parameters and also at the code. It was early days for me and slope, so finally gave up when all i could try led to a dead-end. I dont recall the open/close successive trades ever happening to this EA, but it was common for a few of STeves EA's around that time, so do look out for it when forward testing.
Hope this helps and good luck with this EA. It sounded like it would work, but i had no luck at all with it.

Yes, HighTF for a buy at 0.2 and for a sell @ -0.2. Closing i would try to let the MM part of the EA close the trade, but would set slope at 0 for both. SOmetimes i tried closing a buy at a '-' level, but it didbt work okay for me.

Please play with the setting and see what you find. Havent got the time to run this again, but will be happy to 'watch' your on a fxbook page thingy if you set it up.

Need some creative ideas. I have put the moving averages on the chart for visual confirmation.

There is clearly a crossover. The EA reports that the fast MA has a higher value than the slow one, yet the EA reports MA cross over staus of "NONE". The slope of the TMA is above threshold to allow a trade.

Crim is Oanda.


Any idea why this is not recognizing a cross?

I think I have uncovered another problem.

I have been testing this on a 1M chart in order to see some action and test the logic. Once a trade has been triggered, it appears that the EA stops watching the HTF slope for a possible close.

I currently have it set to buy/sell on a cross with slope +/- 0.2 and close on a slope of +/- 0.7. You can see in the attached screen shot that there was a buy triggered. price meandered about. It is a bank holiday in the US. I noticed that slope on the TMA slope indicator was -0.4 and yet the EA information display was saying +.212. Unfortunately, I did not take a screen shot with that reading.

Upon noticing this discrepancy, I opened the EA properties, made sure that I had the settings as I had thought, closed the properties. As soon as I clicked OK, it appears that the EA re-read the slope and closed the open order as the slope had far surpassed the threshold for closing.

Is there someway I can force the EA to read the slope with each tick?

Dont feel bad about it, its good experience and always a the best experience/learning curve to do what you were doing.

Absolutely right. I don't feel bad about it at all.

I wish I could have figured out why the EA lost contact with the slope values. When I actively monitored the trades and closed them manually if the slope reversed, the strategy was profitable.

Ah well. On to the next thing.
