Some help for a newbie

Steves shell code was far too advanced for me

Some encouragement, although I am not going to get involved with sorting out your problems. I had coded about 300 ea's and started my own forum before I started to gain help from some of the most brilliant coders around. Mind, you might want to take more notice of my shell and spend some time figuring out how it works. It has some huge disadvantages but the good stuff is largely the result of the influence of said Brilliant Coders.

7 years ago, I had not even heard of Forex. I was hooked via the usual sucker routes. Happily for me, I have been interested in coding ever since I bought my first pc in 1984.

The rest, as they say, is history. Gradually. After much pain and suffering.

Hang on in there. Keep hacking the code. Eventually, you too will become someone the 'real coders' (not me - I am still hacking) will become interested in helping.

It does happen, I promise.

Its so simple its stupid

I have now finished it and it compiled and ran.

Which I was excited about.

I am now just changing the rules to see if I can make it profitable

I didnt find any solutions to it - although when I moved the code to the initialisation section of the EA it did pass compilation

I am searching the mql4 site now to assist me with defining it

This function is present in almost all of Steve's EAs. Just copy and paste it from there and adapt it to your needs. Alternatively if you don't want or need this function just comment it out (//).

As I mentioned earlier - I have attached the EA which I have been working on.

I stumbled on the idea when working on a Bollinger Band reversion to the mean strategy - I noticed how the price would tend to move back to the mid line - but overshoot it.

I decided I would have a go at coding an EA around this cross - it was meant to be a scalper - but it actually works better for the longer time frames with higher pip take profits.

Feel free to have a look and a test

And of course offer any changes or comments
