Here in South Africa the JSE (Johannesburg Security Exchange) had intoduced their own trading platform. You do not have to use a broker now. I only stumbled on it today. GT247.com is the company and it is fully owned by the JSE. They have two platforms, one for the local stocks etc and one for international markets. It is JAVA based. I think the international platform is Dealdesk. It offers Forex, CFDs, etc. I have tried the local trading platform today, the web based one. The platforms are free and a spread is charged. One thing is for sure, you will not find them dealing against your trades. They are the watchdog over the brokers in South Africa. Maybe worth to investigate by some of the you who code.

I have been using Ninjatrader for couple of years for EOD analysis of LSE stocks and shares. Some Crims such as fxcm offer it free of charge others such as gain offer it but you have to purchase the full version.

Ninja offers automated trading plus a lot of indicators such as RSI, TMA, etc, however, I am not sure how easy it is to convert the custom inidactors such as CSS.

I know from experience that NinjaTrader also is being used with a lot of home-coded stuff. afaik you can write your own code in C# (kinda like a subset of C++), so one's not limited to MQ4 functions and language. There are porting tools i'm told, though porting always leaves something to be desired. It would be a serious alternative to Empty4 as it's a good and fast platform with lots of options.
The only problem being finding forex crims that run it, apart from Gain there's not too many out there, it's used mainly for futures trading.

It's a shame there's not enough volume in the micro futs (M6E, $1,25/tick, bit steep still to play with, nor many pairs offered in futs) or that would be the best way to drop crims altogether and trade at the real regulated markets. But that's another discussion....

We have (TENS OF) THOUSANDS of man-hours invested in CQ study, coding and maintenance. Each and every one of us! To be Without the nice guy (EA) / mean guy (MPTM) stuff we've finally developed-- after agonizing efforts-- ekeing out profitability like squeezing soup from a stone...

I canna bear to think aboot it !

Something free is nice, unless its bird seed for the Roadrunner. I won't use web-based platforms if they don't support EA's that can be programmed and controlled by the only people I trust: US !!

I don't have the answer yet; I'm growling (at crims) like a P.O.'d dog.

Note to coders: when The Alternative pops up, you'll do land-office business recoding all our "stuff" if we're too busy or don't know how to transition it. :lol:

Note to Steve and our forum coders: THANK YOU for MPTM & etc...
Because of your efforts we have enough spare time to think about alternative platforms, write forum posts, walk the family etc.- instead of hovering over idiotic "close all" buttons day and night...

@ AnotherBrian (re:below)-- I'm voting for some version of C, as I understand that "MQL4 (for short) is based on the computer programming language called "C" ...", facilitating our learning curves (hopefully)...

Wouldn't you all agree that the bare minimum is a coding language that is portable? Such as Java or C#. Then we don;t get "as" trapped as we are today with MQL.
Perhaps we start by listing the platforms and the languages. To me, easylangage, AFL, MQL are all traps.
If your going to be a coder, jump in balls deep and learn a real language once. I know a little bit about too many languages and it makes me a hack, not a coder and I don't like it.

I know how you feel.

Trouble is the point Buzzbee made. We cannot simply dump the investment so many people have made here, and in the build up to this forum opening up - but here especially. Fantastic things are happening in this forum, all based on Crapql4.

Not to worry. As I see it, all we can do is flounder around for a while and hope that a way forward emerges.

What is that minimum volume? They don't seem to disclose it on the website.

At the moment the only platform I am aware of that supports MQL4 code outside of Empty4 is Pro Trader from PT Soft.

I note they also support C# for more serious efforts or if you prefer the object programing model to procedural...

I wonder if Jem has heard anything on this one from the brokers point of view?

and a commercial platform worth the investment for my situation is multicharts forex specific build http://www.multicharts.com/forex-trading-platform/
but thats only handy for me on FXCM accounts...
