Has anyone had any recent experience with the platform? I'm looking into it on demo right now and in terms of functionality it seems quite good, but apparently it's only used by several brokers.. and maybe there's a reason for that? |

I've been putting it through rigorous testing with several cTrader brokers for the past several months. After a decade, I've shifted completely from Empty4 to cTrader/cAlgo combination. IMO the reason more brokers aren't joining the bandwagon is because there's no way they can use the plugins created for Empty4 brokers to mess with us. I'm also doing a significant bit of coding for it and the ability to use C# and Visual Studio seamlessly with cAlgo is rather amazing and speeds up development greatly. Brokers have Business Models. Those models are designed to be profitable. With Empty4, well..... the broker owns and runs the server, so they have carte blanche to do whatever they like, including automated plugins. With cTrader, it's a PAAS (program as a service) run from the cloud and, as such, the broker has no realtime control over traders trades. They set spreads, they set commissions, they can set swaps. That's normal for any brokerage. They CANNOT use plugins. They can assign accounts to A-Book (if you're good) or B-Book. I've found backtesting using cAlgo to be quite fast and comprehensive. I've been able to take old Empty4 EA source code, convert it (not always) through 2cAlgo.com and tweak the new C# code to produce, after backtesting, winning strategies. Having the full world of Visual Studio, open source libraries, including Neural Net, Machine Learning, etc., at your fingertips with cAlgo/cTrader really is a game-changer for a serious Quant. I could write much more, but thought it best to put this out there to counter some of the Empty4-centric posts. At the end of the day, you still have to have *some* degree of trust in your broker. cTrader has made it *much* more difficult for unethical brokers to thrive and, for that, as well as many of their technical breakthroughs, I believe they deserve a long look for serious traders. Best regards, Merlin |

Ah, one other thing I should add.... I do have an EA which only runs on Empty4, so I use a free cTrader Trade Copier. Trades sent from Empty4 are instantly taken on cTrader. I use the Empty4 of the cTrader broker to keep the data feed as close as possible. Works perfectly for me Best, Merlin |

From what I'm getting, their main marketing advantage is that they can't be used for cheating on clients. Apparently it's not attractive enough for most of the brokers who are making enough money with the status quo. But from what you're saying it's maybe a bit technical for someone who can't code, or am I mistaken? |

Hi Scott, It's not unlike Empty4 in that respect. You can use other people's EAs or 'roll your own'. I think you'll find *very* few coders who appreciate Empty4. On the other hand, there are legions of C# coders. There's a learning curve with both. I'm not finding the learning curve with cTrader/cAlgo that difficult. Challenging, yes. If you're just looking to trade and make money, then I believe you'd find cTrader more profitable for the very reason you pointed out. It can be discouraging taking losses with Empty4 due to unexaminable broker tricks, and as a trader, that can affect your morale. It's hard to develop confidence and certainty when you don't know if the loss was caused by you or 'them'. The real solution I've found is to be PATIENT and wait for the highest % trades out there. If you 'get it right' and you're in a 100 pip win, it doesn't matter what the broker tries to snatch back, it will still be a *nice* win you can be proud of. Best, Merlin |

Hi all, Last week I've written my first program just for testing the order execution latencies. I've written my program exactly as a one on one copy from Empty4. I've done live tests with it on Bully Pepperstone and IC-Markets. I was really dissapointed to see the big differences in order execution latencies. Latencies were even 10 times bigger. This is probably cause because of the fact that the server of cTrader is situated in London and Bully Pepperstone and Ic-Markets are situated in New York. In my oppinion it's only worthed to use cTrader when the broker also is situated in London; like FxPro. They were the first initiators of this platform. I was not able to do the tests with FxPro because I don't have a live account with them. Regards, Danny |

Interesting, but odd I'm in Rio and testing with Bully Pepperstone and several other brokers. Both on Demo and Live, I found the latencies to be nearly instantaneous, head and shoulders above Empty4. I'm doing both manual and Algo trading. I wonder if there might be other variables at play. Best, Merlin |

Hi Merlin, How did you test the order execution latencies ? I'm not talking about the 'ping' latency between the broker and VPS. Which broker do you use for cTrader ? Regards, Danny |
