So if price hits our preset sl, slopey could enter the next trade with the marty based lot size. I know someone would give a lecture on the disadvantages of martingale system, but it is worth a try since they trades are not random
Let's bear it in mind as an option to add, for now.

I have seen only one trade this week, an AC buy that is currently about +80. I have all the balance filters enabled, so these are keeping me out of some other possibles.

For those of you who have not been playing this game for long, the attached pic shows the need for balanced trading.

On my charts, AUDxxx shows three pairs at/above the Slope buy level. The spike that I highlight in this picture would have caused me some grief were I to have had three buys open.
pic.gif
To avoid this possibility, I want a second audxxx trade to be a sell. This spike also shows on the other audxxx pairs. The spike would have killed the buy but taken the sell deep into profitability.

Ok, so in reality the initial upward movement would probably have taken the buys to tp so this is not a great illustration, but it serves my purpose here.

The purpose of OnlyTradeCurrencyTwice is to make sure I do not unbalance a balanced position. So, if I am long GU and short GJ, I do not want another trade involving gbp to unbalance the position.

Just to let you know guys, that this ea has chinked along quietly since I started the demo on 31st July. 10 trades one loser - can't remember why I closed it back on July 16th. The rest have closed mostly by retracing to their jumping stop; one made it to its 100 take profit - today. Profit so far = c. 2.5%.

V 1b is in post 1. There are not many changes. I have coded a trade-closure on the recross of the moving average. The close on recross only activates if the trade is in profit. This function has yet to be tested. V 1b has my settings hard-coded in.

I originally had the bot on the H1 chart - lots of charts. The sma did not trade much through August, so I changed to the M15. This has brought about more trades, but this bot is still not a trading tart. Drawdown has been small and short-lived.

Ok, so not setting the world alight but not blowing accounts either. It is rare for an ea to survive a month on my demo machine, so quite promising here.

Thanks for the update Steve, I had it on a highter TF and was getting no trades at all, reduced it today to 15 mins as well, and have had the first trade.

Now I know I haven't jinxed it :) and it is working I can give some feedback as well.

Cheers

Hi Steve, GaryF and all,
Keeping in mind an idea for Slopey MA, i think would be a good candidate for mptm-SLOPE. mptm is half in Slopey MA anyways.

have been running this on 1hr OOTB also and only had 5 trades, 4GBPJPY AND 1 ON GBPUSD. all losers.

i really like MPTM and find it absolutely necessary. I enjoy all your EA's like Slopey MA with part-mptm built-in. If one is not carefull with the settings though, it can make the situation worse.

Okehiedon's suggestion of martingale makes sense. I like martingale as the results look so good , enticing people in, and then when you not looking, bam!

in your user guide for MPTM you allow for a percentage input for the hedge,
then you allow for MPTM to use adx, envelope , or bars for hedge direction.
You do mention in your guide that this is experimental and i have tried it finding that mptm locks up when it's supposed to take the hedge position.
Dont know what causes this so cant help. i reboot, or restart Empty4 and all kicks in again. This happens on all my gazzillion platforms and pc's, therfore i just use good old hedge. plain and simple.

i know you dont like it when people are lazy, or dont at least try a little, but i know better that if i tried to code slope into the hedge option of your mptm section of the slopey MA code, luc will be doing the zorba on my bones! i'm just not THERE yet.

is this not maybe a more subtle form of martingale and maybe more acceptable form of recovery?
using the mptm part of MA cross with user defined settings for the hedge and then the 'hedge the hedge' input. (1,2,6, except this would be 100%, 200% and then 200% again giving us the 1,2,4 actually 1,1,2,4, including the original position.)?

i'm thinking loud, so shoot the idea down if i'm talking crap , please Steve, Gary, dont be shy.
In short, it's basically adding hedging to Slopey MA with the option for using SLope for the direction of the hedge. The lot size options ,in %, of the hedge allows us to manually set the size of the 'M' part. (sorry Gary, am i banned now?).

George, no idea if you are talking crap or not.

This I can say with total certainty: it will take someone with a lot of patience to try to add this to mptm.

When I first coded and posted mptm, it was a tiny bot intended to manage trades with a very few features. Even then, it lacked coherence; explanatory comments are few and far between. I was at the start of my coding career.

Then it growed and growed and growed. It is a monster. Touching the code is not something I am prepared to do; LUC could throw a bender that would make intergalactic war look like a child's outing in a park on a sunny afternoon. Ok, so a slight exaggeration, but you get my drift, I am sure. Sorry.

Hehe. George, now I see we are talking about mptm in the Slopey MA cross thread.

Sorry if I have totally misunderstood your post.

Having said that, your post mentions Martingale. There is no chance of me adding this to SMAC. Leaving aside my loathing of M, it is not necessary here.

Resurrecting this thread from the past;

I have been fiddling around with Slopey MA for the last few days. I am using this EA to test a theory about 3/47 EMA crossovers on M15 and 1H timeframes. I am using a 4X - 6X multiplier for the higher timeframe slope to filter out trades, or more accurately stated, to only take trades in the direction of the higher timeframe trend.

This evening, I had a strange occurence. On a 3/47 downward cross, with HTF slope appropriately negative, the EA opened and immediately closed 16 trades. I cannot fathom any idea what would have caused that. The price was moving strongly in the correct direction, there was not cross back over in the opposite direction.

Any ideas ?

**** Please disregard for reason of stupidity. I had muliple charts open with EA without changing magic number. I think that is what caused the multiple opening and immediate closings. ******

testing contiues. Attached is performance over the last few days. 52 trades, about 50/50 winners to losers. If I eliminate the test trades on the 1 minute chart, I would have 35 trades. 22 winners, 13 losers with a net profit of $2,311 on 0.5 lots on a $50,000 account.

Settings are 40 pip SL, 60 pip TP, +/- 0.3 higher timeframe slope levels for buy/sell and +/- 0.15 for the higher time frame close order setting.

I am interested in exploring the differences when the number of periods used to calculate the TMA Slope is varied. For example, using 14 periods would make it more responsive. But to what result?

Does anyone else have any interest in this routine ?
