July 11 2013: Today GBP/JPY bias in the 4 hour chart as well as daily chart is bearish. After the fake-out a few days ago this pair has a daily open lower in the last three days. As long as price momentum is below the 4 hour HA line I will stay with bear trades but I will keep an eye on them as market feels wiggly. On a side note I just want to say that AlertFX.com is a simple but nice service when I don't have access to my charts or just want to check my trades via email. They need to add more stuff but for a free service I find them useful.... |

Here's my take. We got a 4hr bullish falling wedge, Chart #1, however, I don't think we will see another touch of the bottom of the wedge. I am thinking that the falling wedge has now morphed into a descending triangle because of the 61.8% fib level, chart #2. I have a small short with pending longs hanging out all over. Looking for a move long to continue the Daily trend. Comment please. Jim |

Hmm... I have brought up my charts and I am looking at just price movement for the moment. What I see is a bearish bias on the daily, 4 hour, 1 hour and now also on the 15 minute chart it is turning bearish as well. Also I see volatility is down quite a bit in the last 3 -4 trading days which makes a case of range bound price movement. Taking a look at the daily bars basically all last week was within the previous daily range. So the picture looking at price movement is bearish in general though range bound. Now I know that there is a strong correlation between GBPUSD and USDJPY but historically on most timeframes the correlation of USDJPY is stronger than GBPUSD. So I now looked at USDJPY and it is still bullish on the daily chart but barely. If this currency pair can keep itself above the daily HA line and recover somewhat I would expect GBPJPY to follow suit. To what degree remains to be seen with GBPUSD actions as well. Future intraday scenarios:
I would open an intraday bear position and look to target 149.3 level for today... |

July 16 2013: Looking back at yesterday GBPJPY price went to around the 151.20-30 level so intraday turned out to be bullish but still ranged-bound. Currently I am looking at the 4 hour chart and it is very muddled. Price can go both ways so welcome to the summer doldrums. |

Okay I decided to try a small long as the 1 hour chart and 4 hour charts are above the HA line giving price momentum a bullish bias. Daily price momentum is right on the HA line so that means USDJPY daily is bullish as price is still above the HA line...And as we know GBPJPY is correlated like at around 98% with USDJPY on the daily chart so that helps to give to the total picture... I will be careful again today as liquidity is low and it is summer so anything can happen. I have to follow the market and when it is erratic then I must managed my risk carefully... Remember I look at trades as probabilities and in these conditions probability comparisons between scenarios tend to become more of a match leaving a muddle trading picture... Sometimes the cost of trading in these conditions is more then not trading at all until volatility increases. Food for thought. |

I was watching the GBPJPY pair and decided to close my long in profit before the CPI news came out as low liquidity and news events can make this pair bouncy. I am glad I did as price movement went down so now I am staying out of the market as I do not feel a trend and so far it shows a ranging market... |

July 17 2013: Let's look at GBPJPY from the top down - Weekly chart shows me that price movement is above the HA line. The candles though show the last few weeks price close lower on the closing of the weekly candle so that should reflect on the daily chart as a bearish trend. So overall picture is a bull major trend on the weekly with a bearish counter-trend reflected on the daily and with diminish price movement volatility in the last three weeks as well. Daily chart shows price movement constraint into a triangle. Price is below the daily HA line barely and has tested the top recently and failed. Picture shows me to be careful and to either trade lower time-frames like the 15 minute chart or wait until volatility resumes with a trend to guide it. I love trading but I love trading successfully even more so I will see what the day brings and if I do not see a better picture intraday then I will wait until tomorrow... |

Okay not soon after my last post did the 15 minute TF show a jump in price movement so I will wait for price to do it's thing and if it does not go below the HA line then at the point I mark on the chart I might do a buy order. This would be an intraday trade that I can close at anytime if I feel price movement does not warranted further exposure. |

I had taken a buy market order and now closed out. Take a look on the 4 hour chart and you will see price movement is still within the triangle. Will see if price stays above the 4 hour HA line and if so will look to get back in with another bullish order. |
