Demo with 33 trades open went into 8% DD after market opened, and went back to 3% in 15 minutes.
First 16 pips banked.

Backtesting in Crapergy Tester is a waste of time. Good fun often and if you really want some fun then do some 'optimisation', but not productive. You want entertainment for a few minutes, then play away. Just don't post your results here, ok? They are not welcome.

Truth to tell, and this will be hard for some of you, but fact is that demo trading results are worth only a little more that craptesting results. Tough world, Forex trading. Only ever trade with money you can afford to lose. Guess how I know that not doing so is a bad mistake?

I agree with you Steve. We need to post this every once in a while so the newbies know about these things. Good post. Bactesters are only good to show that a program is working, they are not good for actual results. How do I know, I tested an EA live using 1 penny trades for a month and then backtested the results in the Empty4 backtester. The results were no where close to being the same. I wonder how many traders came up with trading systems that actually would work live but junked them because the backtester showed them it wouldnt work.

Another piece of advice, you should never run an EA until after the JPY open at the beginning of the week or at least wait until the gaps happen. First time you run an EA and then get the weekly open gaps I guarantee you will never do that again. I have seen gaps in the hundreds of pips from weekend news or currency exchanges. Remember many banks are open all around the world on weekends and are exchanging money so when all those sales hit at the market open, boom and your SL dont protect you. So be warned. :twisted:

I think Bold trader is talking about his chart of daily Forex volatility. This is the average for 1 year of pips per day. I updated this the last week of Sept. so it is current.

I have a similar Demo setup to Steve (just checked and have 7 open trades (6 CT and 1 Trend) and just started to go positive)

Just found out that the EA is set for 5 trades and with Oanda FIFO account this murder having multiple positions sometimes close together, I turned that back to 1.

Second the EA was set to SMA and the INDI is set to LWMA on the 240 line so I changed that too in my EA. Steve you may want to take note on that one. See pics below

Steve I tried the sell only and buy only function. If I turn on the Buy only function and the last arrow was a sell it will try to close the open buy trade but it cant because I am not using the sell function. Instead I get a regular error message telling me --order closed fail with error 4109 trade is not allowed with expert properties. So I see two problems.

1. If I only want to buy or sell __ not both ways but only 1 direction trading, it wont close the trade with the opposite arrow showing. In other words I only want to Trend trade.

2. If I want to stack trades because of a strong trend I will keep getting this error message over and over again. In other words I want to reenter every time I get a buy arrow and have multiple trades going and I dont want to close any trades when the opposite arrow shows.

Are there T/F options to:
1. Close trades when using the buy only or sell only function when the opposite arrow or CT arrow comes up.
2. Dont close trades because I want to buy or enter every time the buy or sell signal comes and stack trades for a long fundamental run of the currency. I dont want to see this error message coming up every time the CT arrow shows.
