Steve,

Is it hard to change the single direction TP from x-pips to a basket?
I've seen a few times price racing one way, closing single trades for 2, 3, 5 or even 10 pips TP.
It takes 50 pips for a 10 pip grid to close a 100 pip/ $10 basket with just 4 trades.....

Thought I would share a tool that might be useful. It is Oanda's currency volatility chart.

http://www.oanda.com/forex-trading/anal ... volatility

It may help to find out which ones are the highest daily swingers when choosing which pair to grid. :)

No problem at all. Before I do though, experiment by sending no tp and using either mptm in basket mode or Baluda's mpbm. Come to some firm conclusions and I will add them to GW.

I've tried without succes in StrategyTester ..;and couldt test it.....before i saw that TRADING BUTTON DISABLED :)

For me backtesting is just to visualise how EA will work in some instances....with /without L4....distance of pips....TP....

thanks!

Hi Steve,

I would like you to consider the following scenario with the Griddy Wotits.

When the EA first opens, obviously you are not in any hedge positions let alone any open positions.

As an example of a fresh EA start, if I keep the TP at 10 pips and the pair trends in a direction, then 10 pips profit takes at L1 and the EA will keep trading. During this period, the EA has not reset the grid. If the trend has taken 10 pips in the buy direction then hits L2 but turns around, we lose out by having to make up L1 10 pips plus the initial open position spread should the trend change to the sells.

If the grid always resets itself at L1 TP in a non hedged position we would always be ahead. In the case of a 10 pip grid, it wouldn't be too bad although an extra 10 pips needs to be gained should it come to the other trend direction but should the grid size be increased, there could be a lot of making up to do during a reversal.

Cheers! :D

This might cause huge positions when caught in a range.

I've seen this happen too, and the 10 pips don't really matter, since when hedged the difference between the #buys and #sells need to make up for the 'loss'.

Most of the times there are at least 4 positions difference, so they have to make up 2.5pip each.
Making the grid small enough caters for this.

I understand the example of 10 pips and this is why I mention the problem should the grid be wider BUT...

Does the following example not apply?

10 pip wide grid is set and buy L1 and buy L2 take profit and buy L3 opens but the trend turns around.

This would mean that 40 pips would need to happen before sell L1 hits, leaving you in -40 pips before the first hedge even opens.

Maybe change the "MaxDistanceBetweenGroupsPips" to a level like '20' or whatever and observe what happens then. I believe it will behave like a 2 trade grid and re-sends after every 2nd trade.
