It looks like there has been quite a bit of disruption in the markets. Just tried to place a trade and could not. Upon investigation I came across this:
The recent move on the Swiss franc caused by the Swiss National Bank’s unexpected policy reversal of capping the Swiss franc against the euro has resulted in exceptional volatility and extreme lack of liquidity. This has resulted in the majority of clients sustaining losses which has exceeded their account equity. Where a client cannot cover this loss, it is passed on to us. This has forced Alpari (UK) Limited to confirm today, 16/01/15, that it has entered into insolvency. Retail client funds continue to be segregated in accordance with FCA rules.

Alpari UK?
Ok, that's some pretty big news. Alpari (UK) is one of the more respected brokers out there.ShirtonFx » Fri Jan 16, 2015 10:00 am wrote:This has forced Alpari (UK) Limited to confirm today, 16/01/15, that it has entered into insolvency...
EDIT: Good thing accounts were segregated. Still ...

Are you taking all signal types (Trend, RAD, Wavy, Range) on daily or only some of them?

Well it looks like Alpari hit the skids because of the SNB action.
From what I understand, it's always best to trade with a broker with ties to a bank.
I like to study chart patterns, but the SNB intervention is unprecedented.
I'm calling this chart pattern the "Evel Knieval" !!
(if you don't laugh, you cry really)
HGI on the H4 told you get out in advance.... as such I had no USDCHF trades going.
GBPCHF provided a signal to trade into the drop ... which I ignored.
I am up 50% on my account for the week regardless.
As far as risk management is concerned, my startout demo account was $10,000, and I traded 1 standard lot.
After reaching 12,000, I moved to 1.2 lots.... etc. etc.

This was not the first SNB has played such trick, and I bet it will not be the last one either!Rio » Fri Jan 16, 2015 10:27 am wrote:Well it looks like Alpari hit the skids because of the SNB action.

G'day everyone! :hi:
Fwiw I think it is fair to say that the SNB's change to the CHF damaged a lot people yesterday when we all got caught with our pants down. My thought it was because most of us were busy doing other 'important' occupational/family/study/etc stuff at the time.
Even if we were in front of our trading screens we probably still wouldn't have known ahead of time that it was about to happen… or would we??
I have spent what spare time I have had today going over my 'manual' trading methodology, and the tools (indicators, scripts, etc) I use to see if I could have done better - given the circumstances!
Because our (AUS) day is pretty-much over by the time yours (EUR, GB, USA) is getting started it has given my kids & me the opportunity to scalp (M15 & M30) from the London open (1800 local) until just after the NY open (2400 local) without making too long a day of it.
When the HGI arrived I incorporated it into my manual Ducks D1 & H4 system - with great success. I also created a 'scalping' Trend version that we have been using very effectively on the M15 & M30 to reach our daily targets.
While I was looking at one of them today the answer to the CHF conundrum hit me fair between the eyes.
Thanks to Nanningbob and the HGI we never have to fear being caught with our pants down again.
Please have a close look at the attached charts. I know they are retrospective but I don't think that they would change that much in real time. Every single CHF related pair, from the M5 to the H4, gave a 'heads-up' of a Trend change - ahead of time.
Now, how brilliant is that??
Nanningbob (Elixe & Tomasso) you are legends!
We, the kids and I, thank you.
Cheers

Don't want to pee on your parade but the SNB move took 2 minutes to drop over a 1000 pips. Trading at that speed was impossible and essentially the retail brokers and retail traders could not react.
In hindsight the charts look lovely. The reality was an un-tradable event.
I was short EURUSD and my mini PT got hit so I was lucky to be on the right side of the trade. If I hadn't had a PT , it would have been very lucky of me to have been able to close out with a 2000 - 3000 pips gain but I guess some would have. In the past I have seen flash crashes and the brokers essentially don't allow any trades to be submitted or closed and then they re-quote, mostly in their favour.
The HGI would have got you out of some trades. Hope everyone got the right side of the trade and that when the Disclaimer losses can exceed your deposit kicks in , no one got stung with a blow up or worse now owe their broker money.
See you on the other side.
What struck me is that, in every case, the HGI Trend accurately gave an advance warning of the impending change of Trend direction early enough for me to have capitalised on it!
That's what has gotten me so wound up!
To me; the ability to accurately predict an up-coming Trend change is like winning the lottery!
Knowledge is power!
Thanks to Nanningbob we now have access to such knowledge.
The question now is: How much will knowing and consistently using this knowledge change your lifestyle...'Cause isn't that why we are all trading??
Thanks for your time and comments.
Y'all have a good one, now!
Cheers

Hi,
Although this indy is the best I found until now, I think asking it to predict such a movement is too much! In fact, I am pretty sure that the trend arrows showed up only AFTER the move.
If someone was in CHF trades please chime in and let us know if the trend arrows were there before the move and if you have trades on the wrong side just before the move. I think the overall CHF trend was down before this.

I can confirm there were no arrows before the move. If there were any I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have blown my account.JFonseca » Fri Jan 16, 2015 8:49 pm wrote:Hi,
