I don't doubt there will be some losers in ranging periods, but overall the simple CSS approach seems to come out well ahead. Assuming zznbrm's indi is accurate for visual backtesting, the chart that Neo posted looks darn good. If you just go long when NZD > JPY and short when NZD < JPY, you'd pick up a lot of pips on that chart. Do that across a bunch of different pairs and I think you'd come out well ahead. Am I missing something?

Entries/exits will work out in trending conditions but will be loosers when ranging. In your pic I see winners on the big down/up moves and loosers when mkt is going side ways. Better use Shelley for that, at least it does it basket-like so that if you get it wrong on one pair the others can buffer it.
Who said that i am looking for entry's and exits solely on this indis?

My primary goal is to analyze how these indis correlate with the market.
If it gives me more or better information on how to enter a trade its ok...if it helps me to see an trend develop or end earlier it is also ok...and if it helps me to exit a trade to a better time, this is also ok...and if not ... then this is also ok... ;)

I think this currency strength indis are a very reliable tool to select tradeable pairs much better. if it can give me some more information that would be great...but like i said at this moment i just try to analyze what kind of further information i can get out of this indis.

No problem...we are here to discuss and any constructive input is appreciated, especially if it helps us all to become better traders. ;)

happy trading,

NeoTrader.

P.S. Baluda has a new versions of his indis in a new thread.
http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... f=37&t=629
He has now an external parameter "ignoreFuture" on his slope indis that should avoid repainting...I will test and see what he has com up with.
Hey Neo,

Gotcha mate :D

Hi Steve and Moderators

Hey the posts I did on page 12 could now probably be deleted as unfortunately they could be confusing and unhelpful to some people. I did this testing while others were sorting out the 'true' version indicators so in the end while it was helpful for me and the comments were very helpful now we have the indicators updated and sorted out more in terms which could be useful for visual backtesting and which are not. The charts I posted were all done with currency slope change that had 're-caclulated' as it went. It is clear to all I hope now that this is unhelpful - I mean using the indicator in manner it was not designed for.

So if you guys want to hit the delete button on my previous post there on page 12 do it. Would be much better to have a discussion on this with the new version indicators clearly labelled and explained in the context of what can be learned from visual backtest method.

Sorry for any confusion I introduced for people if any. Anyone following the development of these indicators should go to Baludas Currency Slope Strength thread to see up to date comments and versions. On page two of this thread there is a new version by Neotrader that is looking very useful.

Thanks guys for this opportunity to follow along with your work. Many potential trading strategies awaiting those willing to learn this stuff properly.

Hi Gary,

If someone is missing something between you and me, it really has to be me Gary not you. It just that I had run a visual backtest on EURUSD /TF=D1 (triggers at zero line cross) and saw that whenever market is moving sideways i.e. without strong UT or DT, it loses.

I agree with you that if overall the winners are more profitable than the loosers, we have a profitable system......however, I think that S already provides this feature i.e. good in trending market and weak when ranging. Actually, I think S is even better because, although it will give you a few loosing trades during retracement periods, it will not take any trades in ranging market whereas a system based on TMAtrue will.

Well, I think my problem is probably that I am too much of a S idolator

New version, v1c, in post 1.
Baluda I.png
Changes:
  • Currency tresholds added - When starting the EA it waits trading currencies until they have been ranging (>-0.3, <0.3). This prevents opening trades for currencies that are already fading in strength (or weakness).
This means that trades are always opened at the beginning of a trend.

Answering the 'Initialize all tresholds?' question with 'Yes' starts the EA like new, 'No' uses the saved tresholds.

Enjoy.

Stunning is indeed correct. Thanks, Steve and Paul. Up about 4% floating profit on Pound/Nzd and Pound/Aud. 4 hr. / Nice.

FYI,

The tresholds function is a global function, meaning it works for both trading styles.

Would it make any sense to have the robot close on either level or diff, whichever occurs first?
