Profit = 70 pips, lot = 0.3.

Therefore, price has moved 70 pips divided by 3 = 23 pips.

Jump stop will be triggered when price has moved 50 pips.

Cheers.[/quote]

Well,,,, humm... I'll have to see that to believe it... ;)
Honestly I have read through things and have not seen any documentation that indicates the J/S works in that fashion..
But I could be wrong...

Don't know what everyone else thinks but it would sure help me if folks would post a screen shot of their orders when placed. Not only does it help visualize but would help see the EA data and how it matches with ours.

For example here is a trade I'm in but I don't think the EA has set my stops right. It shows TP at 5000 pips which would be 500 standard pips. Isn't that supposed to be 50 standard. Now the 2000 pip s/l is right I think as that would be 200 standard.

Any thoughts?

Hey spyderman,

Yeah, as you are on a 5 digit broker the 5000 pip TP would be 500 pips, and that is right .
That is just a last ditch close sort of thing.. fxozgirl uses the jumping stop at 50 / 100 and then if the last 3rd reached 500 it would close out the trade.. if not the last 3rd would be taken out on a re trace where ever the jumping stop has made it to... or I believe she also exits on a re cross of the sto..
So the 500 pip TP is really just a initial set up thing and you get to decide how you want to manage the trade in between.... If you do...

Oh yeah, that's right, I remember that now...thanks.

Let me make another observation here.. I like ozgirls approach of not using the ea until she sees the entry she wants... Obviously you get much better entries this way, I can't say how many different EA's I have ran and tossed out because I would look at the entries and wonder what the heck is it thinking?? (I know it don't think..lol) Heck I can make lousy entries all by myself, who needs a freaking EA for that...
This approach of her's has a lot of potential imo... It will always be better with input from the user that has an idea what they are looking for..

I'm not looking for perfection, just a little edge here or there will do...

I have heard it said before, Learn how to lay that one brick and do it over and over and over...

jmo..

I threw together a Tradestation system to test Shelley's strategy, or something close to it.

I wanted to act on the close of the daily bar only, so it's easy to do visual backtesting. It even works almost as well if you only adjust stops (jumping, breakeven) at the end of the bar. Other than that I think I've implemented the same rules as Shelley's original strategy:

* Open 3 units, default to 200 pip SL
* Take off 1 unit at +50 pips and move stop to +2
* Take off 2nd unit at +100 pips
* Let 3rd unit ride with 50pip jumping stop: move stop to +50 when you hit +100, move stop to +100 when you hit +150, etc. (Right?)
* Exit if stochastic slowK crosses over/under slowD.

I've backtested it quite a bit. I'm finding it works great on some pairs and lousy on others. Different pairs do best with different SL sizes. I haven't played much with varying the TP size.

In general EUR and USD pairs do pretty well; AUD, CAD, and CHF pairs do so-so, GBP and NZD pairs do poorly. I would trade it with the "Good pairs" below, probably using 200 pip SL for all pairs. Trading those 9 pairs with SL=200 would have made 891+2322+2784+2680+857+1599+1631+880+2127 = 15771 pips in 2011. The equity curve is almost ruler-straight, but unfortunately that's cherry-picking the best pairs with hindsight. You'd almost certainly do worse than that trading forward.

BTW I'm not sure yet but I'm not certain the 3-lot model is necessary. It seems to work almost as well exiting the full position at a single TP -- at least almost as well as my simplified end-of-bar model. The 3-lot model might work better if you're doing realtime jumping stops &etc.

Good pairs:
AUDUSD: very good for SL = 300, OK for 250
CADCHF: very good for SL >= 150
EURAUD: good at any level, awsome at 150-200 or above
EURJPY: good at SL = 100, INCREDIBLE at >= 150
GBPUSD: Bad in 2010, good in 2011 for 200-250
NZDCHF: good in 2011 at 100-150, best at 200-250
NZDJPY: good in 2011 at SL > 100-150
USDCAD: good at any level, best 100-150
USDJPY: Great at SL 150-250

OK pairs:
AUDJPY: SL = 100 OK for last year
EURCAD: OK at SL = 150-200, great at >= 250

EURGBP: Great for last 6 months at SL >= 150, terrible before
EURNZD: Great until mid-2011 for SL 150-250, lots of losses since
GBPJPY: Great until early/mid 2011, then sideways
USDCHF: Great for SL 100-250 until mid-2011, then down

Not recommended:

Sorry RockyJ, I have checked the chart and GBPAUD has indeed dropped by more than 70 pips this am, and should have triggered your jump stop at 50 pips as you set it.

I thought you meant $70+ profit.

My apologies.

Cheers

Great info Gary, This will surly help out... I do think using human intervention as to deciding what entries to take is an important aspect of this approach... 100% mechanical is not the best method (imo)

Thanks and it is obvious you have a high level of technical expertise.. awesome...

fxozgirl wrote:I have attached Gday (semi automatic mode) to the following pairs ready for the new day:

eurusd, usdcad, nzdusd, audusd, eurjpy, audjpy, gbpaud, cadjpy, nzdjpy

I will be interested to see what Gday does at the new candle as both the stoch lines for nzdusd, nzdjpy have already crossed out of ob/os.

Will Gday recognise that the stochs have been in ob/os already and have moved out or will it think the stoch set up is not yet correct for a trade?

I have also set up a 2nd demo, Gday fully automatic on all available charts
Gday is programmed to act on the last tick of the previous candle and the first tick of the new one - assuming George and I (ok, so mostly TIG) have picked up on any bloops.

It the market was already out of ob/os yesterday, then the bot will not take the trade if you are using the version in post 1. If you are using the experimental version and have ChillOutShelley set to true, then it will already have taken the trade. Possibly. There comes a point where it is impossible to code for every possibly eventuality and users have to accept that a robot will do what a robot does, and figure out for themselves what that is.

:D
Yep that's fine, that's what I thought :)

As for the pairs I put Gday on this morning

eurusd - Gday stayed out as signal line had not quite crossed out of ob/os
usdcad - Sell taken @ 1.02919, trade currently +29 pips
nzdusd - Gday did not trade (as above stoch & signal line had already crossed out of ob/os during yesterdays candle)
audusd - buy taken @ 1.00807, trade currently +77 pips (breakeven function currently disabled, but JS did not move at +50 pips
eurjpy - Gday stayed out as signal line had not quite crossed out of ob/os
audjpy - buy taken @ 78.481, trade currently + 59 pips (breakeven function currently disabled, but as for audusd JS was not moved at +50 pips
gbpaud - Gday stayed out as signal line had not quite crossed out of ob/os
cadjpy Buy taken @ 75.686, trade currently +9 pips
nzdjpy - same as nzdusd (in future when this type of trade sets up, I will use ChillWithShelley function

So far for today then, all trades taken are in profit (including the usdchf trade taken yesterday +77 pips)
all trades are currently up a combined 310 pips :D
