A few years ago, some researchers decided to look into how feasible it is to live on a diet of uncooked vegetables and fruit. They got together a group of volunteers whose remit was to live together and eat only uncooked stuff. Some would eat only fruit whilst the others would eat only veggy. I am a bit hazy about the details, but I recall the experiment had to be called off after the first week, as some of the volunteers were showing signs of malnutrition. It turns out that it took so long to chew and digest the veggy that volunteers could not derive sufficient nourishment from them to survive. Uncooked potato just takes its own sweet time to go through the system without contributing anything to the system passing it through. Yet another victory for the smuggies in the fruit-of-the-earth fraternity. So, it seems that Civilisation came about because some young dummy once accidentally dropped a carrot into the fire, apparently ruining it. I wonder how big a thrashing he took before someone grunted, "Hey. Hold the execution. This tastes rather good......."? Ane we really think we can save Pandas from extinction? |

RJo, you CLEARLY have waaaayyy too much free time. And a twisted sense of humor. Nice try, but Tarzan was John Clayton, Earl of Greystoke -- an Englishman who should have had to shave... On a similar boring-reality thread... Steve, actually there are quite a few people who go on juice fasts, eating nothing but juiced fruits and veggies for weeks or months at a time. (This saves the tedium of chewing...) It is reported and informally documented to be quite good for you -- see e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpLQwWKb3l8 |

Three Irishman Three Irishmen were sitting in the pub window seat. Watching the front door of the brothel over the road. The local Methodist minister appeared, and quickly went inside. "Would you look at that!" said the first Irishman. "Didn't I always say what a bunch of hypocrites they are?" No sooner were the words out of his mouth than a Rabbi appeared at the door, Knocked, and entered. "Another one trying to fool everyone with pious preaching and stupid hats!" They continued drinking their beer, roundly condemning the minister and the rabbi when they see their own Catholic priest knock on the door "Ah, now dat's sad," said the third Irishman. "One of the girls must have died.” |

Copied and pasted from someone who has my email address; Here is an interesting historical fact that you probably didn't know. Just have a look at the calendar for the month of September 1752. (If you think I'm joking, you may search it on Google and see it for yourself.) In case you haven't noticed, 11 days are simply missing from the month. Here's the explanation: This was the month during which England shifted from the Roman Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar. A Julian year was 11 days longer than a Gregorian year. So, the King of England ordered 11 days to be wiped off the face of that particular month. (A King could order anything, couldn't he?) So, the workers worked for 11 days less that month, but got paid for the whole month. That's how the concept of "paid leave"was born. Hail the King!!! In the Roman Julian Calendar, April used to be the first month of the year; but the Gregorian Calendar observed January as the first month. Even after shifting to the Gregorian Calendar, many people refused togive up old traditions and continued celebrating 1st April as the New Year'sDay. When simple orders didn't work, the King finally issued a royal dictum; which stated that those who celebrated 1st April as the new year's day would belabelled as fools. From then on, 1st April became April Fool's Day. History is really interesting, isn't it ? |

One afternoon a lawyer was riding in his limousine when he saw two men along the roadside eating grass. Disturbed, he ordered his driver to stop and got out to investigate. He asked one man, "Why are you eating grass?" "We don't have any money for food," the poor man replied. "We have to eat grass." "Well, then, you can come with me to my house and I'll feed you," the lawyer said. "But sir, I have a wife and two children with me. They are over there, under that tree." "Bring them along," the lawyer replied. Turning to the other poor man he stated, "You may come with us, also." The second man, in a pitiful voice, then said, "But sir, I also have a wife and SIX children with me!" "Bring them all as well," the lawyer answered. They all entered the car, which was no easy task, even for a car as large as the limousine was. Once underway, one of the poor fellows turned to the lawyer and said, "Sir, you are too kind. Thank you for taking all of us with you." The lawyer replied, "Glad to do it. You'll really love my place. The grass is almost a foot high." Now, c'mon---what did you expect? You know there's no such thing as a heartwarming lawyer story!!! |
