Hi Andy, Shall we update the MT4Gui ? Would it affect the running of the EA ? The update message appears every time I re-launch the Empty4. Appreciate your enlightenment! |

No, it screws the EA up, I've been in touch with the developers and they are looking into it for us. Andy |

Since some/most? users are happy with the current EA as it is (except for some UI issues on some Empty4 versions). It might be worth thinking about an X version: as in X for experimental version (or X for extra if it works). I have been thinking about experimenting with CSS and a light weight interface to manage the EA. It would be useful to change some settings while the EA is running - possibly via a shared file. (Like a set file but read while the EA is running - particularly options for each pair: a) don't trade XY b) close all pending for pair XY c) close open trades for pair XY d) prioritise pairs according to potential strength of trend and to avoid margin issues (perhaps using CSS) I have also been thinking about capturing data about trades to better understand why different brokers give completely different trades - yes agree they should be different - but the differences are more than I can account for by prior experience. If we know that we don't want to trade XY then it would be convenient to be able to click a button, but not at the cost of the CPU moving up to 100% load (it would also be convenient to push these setting out to several copies of the EA). So an external low cost UI which saves settings to a file might do the job. This could be checked/read by the EA periodically (say once every five minutes), and a forced reload by changing the chart time frame. Also this could be copied to multiple Empty4 machines which need to kept in sync or different conditions in several files can be set up on for different instances of Empty4. btsync (bittorrent sync) can securely synchronise folders over a network (only tried it on my home network so far) W.R.T filters, I'm interested in something which would be consistent for most pairs. I can think of several cases: a) Untradable: - sometimes price is shooting up and down but not going anywhere, sometimes price is moving in a small range. b) Pair is tradeable but by a different strategy - for example NZDCHF - looks easy to trade by zig-zag and sto but not by a trending strategy. NanningBob in his excellent document about CSS has explained how we might use the relationship between the lines to determine which would be the best trending pairs, so this is another option. Can we study several types of non-trending situations and come up the appropriate set of rules? The attachment shows that it should be easy to classify NZDCHF as a ranging pair: (if other pairs start doing this it would be useful to spot it) |

My personal view is not to complicate the EA too much. Lagging indicator here and there = failure. Although I agree perhaps having a separate ranging strategy would work well for the pairs that are not trending, assuming that we can filter those out somehow without too much lag. However, I sincerely believe that the current system (with or likely without CSS) has a significant edge, but the real issue is exits and all aspects of money management, which is nearly everything for an EA. I am wondering if we can alter the strategy to only take trades on bar open of the 5M, 15M or even 30M candle if the criteria are met at that time. Then we can attempt reliable back tests and assess brokers more reliably, and at least more accurately assess the different ways to exit. I am guessing that this will result in a push for different exits for different pairs, hopefully with a function in the EA that dynamically adjusts the proper exit for each pair and the correct money management based on price action (i.e., basket based exits, pair based exits, available margin, etc). Given that this is a four hour system applicable to many pairs, this suggestion I hope should not affect results that much. That said, this is a daunting task for those of us with day jobs (and without a group of new MIT comp science and math grads grinding away in a lab for a hedge fund). |

Andy, Brian et al.. I've found GlobalMarketTrend on the 1HR Chart is giving a good idea for overall market trending, entrys & exits.. I'm experimenting getting out of the move between 10-12 and then reentering when the its down around 2 and the RSI is pinned. On my live account I'm now only the Wednesday...Thursday market move after the News has been used to mark-up / down the prices. Not to mention the news thing again, but I'm always trying to explain that news is used to manipulate the market by the institutional money to get in at more favourable prices...brokers love 'herd' traders who trade around the news, as they mark-up the spread and then stop the trader out...rinse & repeat!! Hi Jason, Looks like an entirely different system to me. I don't know if it would work so well for exits, but tough to say, depending on how much it lags and if it will get you out too early from winning trades that would have hit TP. |

Hi Jason, What problem with the current EA would it solve? |

I had to stop testing this EA. It kept locking up, sometimes even after deleting all the log files. =( |

the "final" Version hangs up due to ? I get uncountable alerts all telling me the same, "... audchf orders closed at 1.47, Symbol trailing percent level" After reinstalling the old Version of mt4gui.dll still the same behavior - I cannot start the program after it has hung up. Since this EA did amazingly well, it would be a loss to leave it here. All coders, thanks for your Investigation, Mike |
