i do not trade with a broker, who allows metaquotes to make automated updates via web ... not long time ago metaquotes began to make the updates via web -> webinstall!... sure they ask if you permit such update (Pop up), but if you don't, after a while they swich off the Empty4 with the comment: "old version" ...
imo that's criminal!...they don't have the right to prevent me from trading in anyway! ... they have to respect this - if they like it or not!!!... otherwise i will boycott every broker, who plays their bad games ... and no - what they (metaquotes) do is not every time good for the customer at all!... that's simply bs-excuse!...

to switch off the .dll's is inacceptable!!!...

i use Windows 7 ultimate and Vista...you can find the Folder for webupdates here:

user > AppData > Local > VirtualStore > ProgramData > MetaQuotes > WebInstall

it's time that metaquotes learns where their place is !...
and what they are allowed to do and what not!!!

I t doesn't matter what we think, Metaquotes and brok3rs / distributors of their software have contracts and license agreements. The first thing to know is what was the agreement, and I dont expect anyone to actually spend the time to educate themselves or read these agreements, most will just complain. Sorry folks, but contracts are the first step when there is a disagreement and Metaquotes is claiming people are abusing the agreement. A contract was signed BEFORE using the software. Now the traders may suffer. So, who screwed that up? The guy that didn't read his contract, that's who.

This is what happens when firms don't use their lawyers before they get into trouble.

All of this assumes that what Metaquotes is saying is correct, about 3rd party dll's, blah blah blah who cares.... is all in line with what the license agreement and contracts say.

If you really care about this issue, read the metaquotes license agreement as a starting point.

Thanks, KevinT. Now, at least I know that I'm not the only person reading it that way. I can't imagine that Metaquotes would effectively kill every ex4 file that calls a dll library file.

Probably not but cowboys are cowboys and they only come bigger cowboys if they are running a market-making criminalage.

The only way the rest of us have of dealing with these idiots is to kick up a stink when they do something monumentally stupid as opposed to normally stupid.

I just examined the implications of my last para. Actually, we should kick up a stink whenever they do anything stupid. Which is every time the dimwits do anything. And the only way to do that is to kick up a stink with our criminals, because they are in bed with the dimwits.

All of the revisions I've seen were built to benefit the trader. Thus making the brokerage more competitive amongst its peers. Basically you have firms doing their best to make a piece of crap product just a little more modern and user friendly.

The problem is to accomplish this they had to violate metaquotes licensing agreement, and intellectual property. At some point Metaquotes MUST draw a line in the sand. If they do not or can not enforce their IP, they have a significant problem.

There is a lot of chicken little, sky-is-falling, BS, floating around. It makes good headlines and hit count fodder. I hate that they would stifle what I consider to be improvements to a terrible interface. But you can only let people run over your IP for so long.

This will be meaningless within a few weeks. A couple people will bitch about how they lost a "feature". MQ will do their best to address fallout amongst their broker customers. They aren't going to blow up their user base, and their customer base. It could be as simple as a licensing agreement with the firm to allow modifications. Quick contract... problem solved. Easy stuff. NOT ARMAGEDDON!

Right now Empty4 is still the retail traders choice for a trading platform. This goes for trading and for programming EA's. We could offer new platforms to retail traders however most retail traders will still stick to Empty4. If retail traders start moving away from Empty4 to another platform we'll be right on it. I think this is the kind of change that needs to come from the ground up.

As far as us asking anything of Metaquotes (the guys that designed Empty4) - that's a big fat LOL there, trust me on this. It's like a mosquito biting an elephant. Why they don't simplify things and take on traders (and brokers) suggestions is beyond me.

If you guys decided to collectively move away from Empty4 and try using a different platform I could hustle for an implementation of the new platform. But let's be honest - no one is moving away from Empty4 any time soon. There's just too much invested in it.

If there was a new platform that came out that worked with all the old indicators, scripts and EA's that were designed for Empty4 then maybe there could be a shift.

They (ACT) will convert any indicator you submit...
The code is very neat (at least it looks like it is!)
The huge white pull down menus toolbar toggles (on/off) by double clicking...

- ALL WE SHOULD NEED for the transition IS:
1 A TRADE COPIER (Empty4 to ACTfx) (I suspect the MT4i guys, may now be more than happy to help )
2 MPTM converted to ACT, with just the functions in use now (light)
3 ITM & co. to manage the open trades
- With this open trades management tools on the slave side of the bridge, Empty4 is used only as master acct $:) during the transition process
