I agree. I don't like setting fixed-pip or fixed-$ stops when the EA will get applied to different pairs or different TFs. I almost always use ATR-based stops in my systems. Update: after 14 hours on H1, the system has closed 25 trades for a loss of $258.49. BUT it also has 18 open trades with a profit of $252. So it is at least breaking even... |

Khalid, you may have already done some analysis on that report, but... it looks like it ran without SL or TP, and produced a net loss of -101.97 pips. If you'd run a TP between about 18 and 25 pips, you would have shown a profit between 62 and 128 pips. I suspect you could do much better than that with ATR-based stops, since the median run-up varied widely across symbols. You needed a SL of 35 or bigger to improve on the basic results. |

Hi Gary, Khalid, ATR based SL and TP are already in the EA. Just enable the option and set fixed ones to zero. |

maybe he meant actually programming a break even point based on atr as opposed to the standard atr stop??? |

Yes I think what you are asking for Khalid is to set to BE after price moves in our favour by atr * multiplier. Can you please confirm? |

Cool! Ummm.... but I don't think it's going to work. You never calculate AtrVal.... |

If you put a 20pip trailing stop on it, and assume you close the trade at 20pips under the max run-up, you'd clear over 700 pips... obviously you wouldn't actually close all trades at maxrunup-20, but it would probably improve things quite a bit! |

The trouble is, the market does not go directly to the max runup. So it might go to +10 pips, then -20, then up to +50. If you had a 20-pip trail, you would get -10 pips, not 40. You can't tell what you'd get just from the runup figures. You have to analyze the price action, or forward/back-test it. |

Based on this I will add an ATR based BE, and ATR trailing stop for the next realease candidate. |
