Trading BASA for 2 weeks...

below is a summary of trades for OOTB settings

43 trades closed for a total of -892 pips, this is from day 1 so includes incorrect entries, problems with JS & SL closures etc whilst in the early development phase.
16 trades closed @ BE, 8 trades closed at +50 pips or higher, 19 trades were losers

Taking out incorrect entries and with MA stacking applied the results would have been vastly different...
23 trades taken for total +328 pips (which included 3 trades gone to full SL of 100 pips)

So, looks like MA stacking is a must have filter to have turned on...thank you Andy for your contribution of this. :D

Overall, I'm really happy with the direction the EA is heading and given the fact that August is not an ideal trading period for trend following systems if we can get moderate results as shown using MA stacking for the balance of the month, I have a lot of confidence the EA will produce some excellent results once there are some trends back in the market.

Moving forward I am going to run the following demo's:

1. BASA (original demo started 27/7 - I want to see if it can recover) - TP 300, SL 100, JS 50, BE+2 30, MA stacking ON, Stacking trades Max trades 6, @ 50 pip intervals.
2. BASA - (started 6/8) TP 300, SL - ATR x 2, Period 20, ATR Timeframe 240, JS 50, BE+2 30, MA stacking ON, Stacking trades Max trades 6, @ 50 pip intervals (since 9/8).
3. BASA - (New Demo started 9/8) TP 300, SL - ATR x 2, Period 20, ATR Timeframe 240, JS 50, BE+2 30, MA stacking ON, Stacking trades Max trades 6, @ 50 pip intervals.

I'll set up some MYfxbook links during the week.

My hope is that the EA can be left to run in any market conditions with the settings giving more BE's during rangebound periods with the occasional runner, but capitilising when markets are trending. The EA has shown that it has the ability to catch the move on the few occasions we've had a runner in the last couple of weeks, so looking forward to seeing how it fares now that most of the bugs are out.

V 1l is in post 1:
  • MA stacking is enabled by default as it is now a part of the strategy.
  • added ATR functionality for the stop loss. Set AtrPeriod to zero (the default) to use StopLossPips. The meaning of the ATR inputs should be obvious. Sing out if you do not understand and someone might be kind enough to explain - it just will not be me.
Shelley, I have not done anything with the tp for stack trades yet - will do but have a piano recital coming up on Tuesday and have to do some serious practise. In the meantime, use the jumping stop to take out stack trades.

Shelley, I have not done anything with the tp for stack trades yet - will do but have a piano recital coming up on Tuesday and have to do some serious practise. In the meantime, use the jumping stop to take out stack trades.

I have temporarily locked this thread. Trade stacking has broken BASA - crap code design as usual. This is the downside of having a pianist doing the coding rather than a Proper Programmer.

I will be a tad busy over the next couple of days and will try to sort this out on Wednesday.

In the meantime, I suggest you all forget about BASA and devote your attentions elsewhere.

Wow, this forum and contributors are really something!

I have been slowly piecing together my "dream EA" for some time now; with the help of some friends. It was my favorite 4Hr strategy and a wish list a mile high. There was so much crap there I had yet to decipher, I wouldn't dare bring it to steve. I knew the potential was there, so I just tinkered when I had the time.

Today, I stumbled onto BASA and WOW! It's like the brilliant minds here have somehow tapped into my feeble mind. Do any of you lie awake at night thinking about your strategy and how to make it better? I'll bet you do...you come up with the best ideas in alpha mode, then climb out of bed to write them down...stuff like that.

This is truly remarkable. My entire wish list is here right now and coded, but with better entries! And the stacking...OMG, Icing on the cake. This is going to be fun.
It's been a long time since something related to forex has gotten me excited- thanks for the rush.

I know how you feel. Ok, so not absolutely certain that the trading decision making code is watertight yet, but it is not far off. I feel we are on to something good here.

Ok, so I have said that before but there is a difference here - the proven to us now quality of the trading system designers.
