Thanks for your kind words and support folks. Chris is loving the independence the chair brings. OK, so this is not huge but imagine having only two places to live for over a year - her bed or her static chair. Now she can go for a bit of a drive whenever she feels like it and can try to run down pussy cats.  They are less than totally impressed and tend to dive for cover whenever she approaches. |

It has been a while since I updated here. Much has changed. Chris was able to apply for a disabled facilities grant to update our home to accommodate her disability and make her life better. The grant was approved, and back in January a brilliant team of builders turned up to build her a 'wet room'. Note: if you live in the UK withing hailing distance of Misterton in North Notts and need a builder, then send me a pm. The company that built the wet room is fantastic. The 'wet room' is an extension to our living room. It contains a shower and sink, and a specialised toilet for people with disabilities. This room has given Chris a new lease of life. Imagine going for more than a year with nothing better than a bed bath. Then imagine the bliss of being able to take a shower in the morning. Imagine how helpless you would be with both legs not working at all and one hand being not far from useless. Imagine the difference that every bit of independence you win back makes to you. Chris cannot use the toilet as it is intended to be used. What she can do is navigate into the wet room in her electric chair and empty her own catheter bag into the toilet. Imagine the joy of not needing a helper to empty your own wee after having been dependent on others to do this for you, for two years. This provided the impetus for Chris trying to do more and more for herself. These days, a request to me for help is the last port of call, not the first. The boost to her self-esteem is colossal. Things here at Chateau Hopwood are 100% better than they were two years ago. Thanks to all of your for your care and concern. I am deeply grateful  |

I'm one of the SHF's lurkers at the moment as I don't feel as if I've got much to contribute at the moment so choosing to say quiet. What I can say is that have a massive amount of respect for Steve and the others who contribute to this site. Really pleased to hear things are improving for you at home Steve. Thanks for your kind words Lee. Never feel guilty about being a silent lurker. You play your part by not clogging up threads with irrelevant posts. People have gone from zero to hero within days here because they stayed quiet and learned; they proved invaluable when they did emerge. You can do the same. |
