Alpenkorps, nobody donating towards your mum's treatment wants their money back. So far as I can tell, these were donations not loans. Anyone who does want the money repaid can contact you directly and you can arrange repayment with that individual. I do not anticipate any such contacts.
So, keep the extra money donated as a hedge against having to pay for treatment needed as a result of your mum's surgery.
We all hope that, in a few months time your mum will be preparing to run whatever is your equivalent of a UK 'fun run' to raise money for charity. By then, if there is still some cash left over from the donations here and from myLot, then put it into the charity kitty.
