So, keep the extra money donated as a hedge against having to pay for treatment needed as a result of your mum's surgery.

We all hope that, in a few months time your mum will be preparing to run whatever is your equivalent of a UK 'fun run' to raise money for charity. By then, if there is still some cash left over from the donations here and from myLot, then put it into the charity kitty.

I'm in the insurance industry and its a fact that its not the condition that kills you thats so damaging (as strange as that sounds) but rather the one that you survive as a result of the costs of recovery and the financial burden on your family.

I gather the op was successful but rest assured the actual costs of after care and recovery can be just as onerous.
