Hi Dwain,

This is exactly what I found about the Big Picture also after several hours and days of watching live charts and charts on strategy tester for the last 2 weeks.

I am neither a coder nor an experienced trader like you or other members commenting and sending their ideas on 9x9, actually quite new and working hard, however I have an idea which may result with a more positive outcome. As you already explained that BigPicture is the total sum of "+1" if the slope has a positive reading and "-1" for negative readings. You might thinking of calculating the "BigPicture" or a new reading in a different way. If the last slope in the relevant time frame (row) is above than the previous slope then "+1" else "-1" which can also be filtered by the Slope Threshold.

All the best.

I haven't had any luck using the "Big Picture" and I know you want a new toy. So we are moving back to the "Total Strength". Try the defaults but I 'm sure each pair will need to be optimized. So what's new? I added a trailing strength to the mix and it seems to do a good job in closing the trades. I'll let you be judge.

Optimize:

StrengthOpen
StrengthTrailingStop
ColumnsToUse

Open 150-400
Trail 150-400
Columns 1-9

Many thanks for this toy ;o).
Have you recommended steps for optimization?
I trying from 1 to 500 StrengthOpen step 5
1 to 200 Strength Trai... step 5
0-100 ColumnsTo Use step 1
But optimization is very slowly. Maybe is value unnecessarily high, and steps small...

Have you any suggestion for ours optimization?

Thanks in advance.

Minor update. If you close the EA and re-open it with trade(s) in progress, it would close and re-open the trade(s). Because the strength trailing stop is not stored like a normal trailing stop, there isn't anyway for the EA to know where it was.

EA Update to logic flow:
If the strength is at or above the opening strength at the time the EA re-started, the trail will start over. If the strength is below the opening strength, you will need to monitor the trade until you get a trail or close the trade manually.

If the EA proves itself, I will store the trail in a global variable so the EA will know where it was upon re-start.

Most brokers don't go back much more than 3-4 months of M1 data. When you do a visual test, pause the chart and look at the starting date .. I think you will be surprised .. If you get all strengths in 9x9 using the M5, M15, ... periods .. then use those .. remember the results are crap and are only starting points for forward testing.

Also, there are only 9 columns in 9x9 (9 rows of 9 columns) 9of9 Notice the borg ship to the right. (Only Trekies will understand).

Here is some 101 on finding starting settings to forward test.

1. NEVER EVER take the most profitable when optimizing! This is the settings that produced the absolute best profit for the market conditions. Do you really think moving forward those conditions are going to remain the same?

2. Look for a range of settings that produced good results in the same profit range. This will produce almost a solid line on the graph. I personal look for a large amount of trades, low DD, with good profit .. NOT THE BEST PROFIT. You want something that is more or less bullet proof. You will see it when looking at the graph.

All,

Strength is great to use for the direction of the pair and when used with the "Big Picture" is even better.

Added code to use Big Picture for confirmation of trade. Also added code to continue the trade if the strength trailing stop is hit, but Big Picture is still above the setting. 9x9 will now reset the trail for another round.

Hi, xrismak:
Thanks for sharing your experience!
may i ask your exact entry signal?
let's say bigpicture > certain number and slope of slope > certain number we go long
and
bigpicture < certain number and slope of slope < certain number we go short?
and exit the trade when big picture or slope of slope changes to other number?
Thanks in advance!

sesshoumaru,
To be honest with you, I haven't A Clue how I do this, all I know is Mostly from my Experience of Trading Naked without So Many Indicators on my Chart, I trade the Pins most of the time, so for Example If I took a Trade from the Peak High or Peak Low On the H1 Timeframe and I am like a 150 Pips in Profit, all I do Afterwards is Drop down to the M15 to M30 Charts and Eyeball the Peaks and Pins on the Lower Time frame Charts and make my Entries or Exits according to P/A, Time of Day and the Overall Trend, 9x9 Slope Gizmo Only helps me to Either Stay in the Trade of Exit the Trade with some coins for a Later Re-entry according to the Amount of Reds or Greens and the Big Picture Number I see on the Charts... I really don't look for Numbers on the Big Picture per say before Entering a Trade because by the time the Numbers Print I am Already in the Trade anyway...
