Your Awesome and Candle Power demos are very interesting to watch. Any long term demos are a good proof of EA resilince before a real account is set up.

I will change the setfile a bit today and use 200 pips emergency SL for safety purposes. Hi, I don't have TradeChart on my terminal but I can add FXBlue link which gives out bit more data than Myfxbook but can be unreliable sometimes. Basically two culprits were GBPUSD and GBPJPY. I didn't intervene manually.

I posted some time ago about Awesome at times opening some trades 200 pips away from the current price in some MyFXBook reports which I did not understand. See http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 30#p157758 and http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 80#p157609
I must be very slow but it finally :arrrg: :arrrg: dawned to me why this happened.

Apparently the clusters of trades sent out while price is already far away, were 'buy stop' and 'sell stop orders' sitting in the background waiting to be released.

Consider the status of Awesome where buy and sell stop orders were triggered, but Awesome could not send these out due to settings which restricted open trades (e.g. 'max trades' or 'max margin'). They will only be sent after closing existing trades/baskets, but this can be days after the orders were created.

E.g. see the following which is from m0nk111 Awesome MyFxBook

The EURNZD sell stop orders are 4 days old. I think that IF a basket would close now, these 'open orders' sell stop trades would be opened 150 pips below the current price creating immediate DD.

If you run your EA with less currencies, less max trades or larger account size with lower margin sensitivity, etc. those stop orders would probably all be already filled at the stop order price. You would have the same positions and DD, but you would not -see- this 'away from price' behavior as the trades were not delayed. Awesome just does what it was programmed to do and works perfectly.

Anyway, I thought it might be helpful for others to share my embarrassment of not thinking straight. :oops:
My takeaways were:
- Check pendings/open orders regularly for old stop orders to see if the EA is not sending trades due to applied trading restrictions.
- If the EA is not sending new trades while waiting for closes, leave the EA to sort out itself but adapt price levels of old pending stop orders to benefit more from the expected retrace.
- OR find a way to get things moving (e.g. by closing worst trade manually) BUT ONLY AFTER adapting the price levels of the existing pending stop orders.

As you notice there are significant areas of drawup (profit) we are leaving on the table, if we closed all trades at that point and reset performance would increase or have I missed something :youknow: .

It did, you can see the balance increase after the spikes, to approximately the difference between the equity and balance. The big green bars following the spikes should be a hint too.

The not so obvious factor is the opportunity cost.
For example if we wait for a bigger profit then we will miss out on new trades. 1 example is Marx's $50 basket, if the TP was set to $25 instead of $50, sometimes we could close several $25 baskets in 1 day and the $50 one hasn't even closed 1.

Also, since we are in the market for longer periods, there is the risk of reversal or a spike and potential pain.

It is a personal preference.
I'd rather take the money and start again.
