Hi Wolfeman, I used to use PP, and am now using PPoS to open trades, and when the trades are open I manage them manually. I have been getting very good result from both the EAs. However, I have not used HGB before. Can you please tell me if you have used PP and PPoS with the same sort of manual trade management, and if you have, which one has given you better trade entries and easier manual management. |

Andy, thanks for summary. Very helpful. One item of detail, do you usually delete your pendings too, and let HBG start from scratch? Sam |

"Can you please tell me if you have used PP and PPoS with the same sort of manual trade management, and if you have, which one has given you better trade entries and easier manual management." Funny that you mention that. I have an on going contest with piproid and HGB on my computer. The two were neck and neck for the last couple weeks, until Monday; HGB made a decisive grab for the lead. I've had a hell of a time breaking the $4000 barrier. Every time HGB got there, it would get knocked back down. It really was driving me nuts. Anyway HGB broke the barrier by a good margin and took a commanding lead over piproid. To be fair, I don't pay half the attention to piproid that I do HGB. It just doesn't need it, so far. I was in the habit of letting it do whatever it wanted, as the strategy is so solid; but recently I asked myself why I'm leaving all these trades open over the weekend. So now I sit down with it on Friday and decide which trades I want to keep. I don't think I've ever done a close all on it, but I do chase the stops when I get concerned about a large open gain. Piproid is much easier IMO to manage, it loses much slower than HGB- at least that's what I've noticed so far. |

Hi Sam, long time... yes, I use Steve's close all and delet pendings script. If it's mid week the EA will sometimes start placing new trades right away and that's fine with me. When closing on Friday, you gotta be quick on the trigger to turn off the EA or the sucker will open up a bunch of trades in the snap of a finger! I did see somewhere here, that people were discussing the script and that issue. I meant to go back and see if someone posted a solution, but I forgot where the thread was...anybody know?

Yes. Too well dragged up my bots. They tend to do what they are told. Silly sods. I will look into this. We probably need a minimum time period in between detecting a closed trade and allowing the open of another, to give us time to turn off EA's. Or maybe adding the basket manager's communication into the scripts - but that is a lot of work. Leave it with me. I will give it some thought. Wouldn't be a problem if those stupid bastards at Crapperquotes had not coded disabling EA's to disable Scripts as well. How thick can you get? Fucking hell. Imagine the lunacy of the offspring of a Cretin from Crapperquots and a Moron from Microsoft? Wow. Just allow the more lurid and less sane of your imaginings play with that concept. The Offspring would see off The Antichrist with all 10 claws manacled behind the anatomical approximation of its back. Just don't allow your imagination to play with the concept for too long folks; you will be into dribbling insanity within a very short time. |

A low-tech solution to this problem (one that does not involve any coding) is to disable EAs on the main terminal and open up a second terminal, connect it to the same account and run the Close All script. You can then exit the second terminal and re-enable EAs on the first one again, whenever you wish. |

I like this switch on/off approach. As an idea to determine the time to switch HGB on, we could perhaps look at the equity-balance plot of the demo account eg: The blue-shaded areas (where the equity exceeds the balance by x-number of pips) would be the times where we want HGB to be on. In fact, it would be even better I guess to just mirror the trades from the demo account to the live account, so to avoid HGB to generate other (different) trades on the live account. Not sure if this has legs, as there could be too many false entries. But worth considering. |

Facing a tough decision... do I close them now or wait? I have decided to wait till London NY overlap; for me that is usually the best time to close. I'm going to bed now and will check around 1400, when I wake up. I plan to close all then, but we'll see. |

I decided to update the scripts to communicate with HGB and stop him trading whilst the script is doing its job - a bib of a faff but it means we can add the functionality to any ea in the future. Updated zip is in post 1. The HGB roller-coaster ride continues, with just shy of 600 pips yesterday and today making up for the losses earlier in the week and leaving the account up 3.5% on its deposit balance. He is shut down for the week now. |
