Update: The posted file had a small error in the routine to take profit based on pips.
It would only use the first value. Here is an updated one.

I have been running it today with no problems

Position in pips, this doesn't take into account the pips multiple so if you are using the trade multiplier option it will have discrepancies. This is not changed from the original version

The close trades may be due to the error noted above

Have read these 18 pages , and comes to add some comments:

- pending orders should not be taken outside the weekly range to fight against useless risk. That range need to be calculated with the actual trading week and the 2 previous ones.

- instead of using an incrementalLotMultiplier > 1, which set the 1st pending order smaller than the 2d, 3rd ... , and increasing dangerously the risk, this factor need to be a decreasing factor.

This might not be too hard to implement inside this strategy, and will give a huge difference, increasing profits.

Firstly thanks very much to all contributors thus far. Total newb, so bear with me. Excellent results. Any further developments (results from testing/going live) over a longer period of time? Did the 'Death trade' raise its ugly head?

unfortunately after a few months of profitable demo trading , the death trade wiped the account :(

I got some tick data and have been doing visual backtests on this strategy. The results aren't good:

The box lengths and such do not really matter, as eventually you will get into a sticky trade.

With a 20 pip grid and 18 pip TP I got margined out on a trade beginning 5/18/2006 trading .1 lots with a 10k balance with 18 buys and 18 sells. This trade lasted 4 months attempting to make 18 pips, ridiculous! This makes me think a 20 pip grid is too large. It made about 20% every six months until it got caught.

I tested a 10 pip grid and 8 pip TP and this too got margined out beginning 1/18/2006.

I tested a 7 pip grid and 5 pip TP and this didn't in the 6 months I tested it from 1-6/2006. It made 10% in 6 months. I was using box length 5, box timeframe 5, and box range 10.

I have given up further testing for several reasons:

1. The weekend gap would play havoc with this strategy with a 7 pip grid
2. With brokers that charge negative interest rates on both the long and short side of a currency pair having some 20 trades open for 5 pips I think would eat into profits.
3. 10%/6 months is rather paltry. This could be quadrupled with 200:1 though.
