Hi

Regarding trading times, the general strategy / EA is designed to place pending trades (if there is a valid set-up) when yesterdays daily candle has closed. So if your broker has a new candle ie. at 17.00 your COMPUTERS time (as in my case) I set the EA to place pending orders from 17.01-17.11 (so it has 10 minutes to place the trades, but normally it takes less than 20 seconds). That's all you gotta do, no more is needed!

Re. more details go to post 1.

Thanks and sorry for yet more silly questions,

Many thanks

Thank's a lot for the update Steve...all is running smoothly.

For the codaphobes, V 1l is in post 1. You do not need it if your crim does not have a Sunday candle, but might be worthwhild downloading if you are one of the unfortunates unable to trade through Global Prime.

I have not actually forgotten about this ea. I sometimes forget to run it in time for the open of a new candle, but it has a basket of trades open currently worth just shy of 1,000 green pips. I will add a reminder about it to my wrup on Sunday.

OldTrader and currymonster,
Ill start off by saying be careful asking time questions as I have been slapped already for doing so. " Do not ask time-related questions here - I shall delete them."

I am in GMT -5 so that is my local time.

I also have another test running on my FXCM account. This test is also running different pairs, not sure why I picked them either.

Hey, just curious, how did you decide which pairs to use? or was that just a list of all the pairs offered by your broker?
Just curious....your set file appears to be set for your broker finfx, as far as trading times? However, isn't the trading time settings in steve's bots based on local time? Or are you finding this to not be the case afterall?
Thanks, have a test running to mirror yours, as well as another couple with different settings, but your trade time inputs have thrown me off :)

Thank you so much for testing live! I am wanting to go live but I'm so scared to pull the trigger :)
Like you said I really enjoy live results because... its live and not just a demo! Please keep posting your live updates. :hi:
Aussiedoc » Sun Dec 07, 2014 9:21 pm wrote:Hey, PC! How are you doing? :hi: :good:

Thought it was time for another PM update.

I've already had PM running successfully on a live account since 23/10. Being curious; I wondered if it could replicate similar results on the Tokyo, London & NY markets. Because I have learned not to trust 'demo account' results, last week I opened 3 more live accounts and loaded a 'time-specific' version of PM onto each.

Please find below the iHistory results for each.

Thanks for another great week. :good: :good:
Y'all take care now.
Cheers
Doc :)

the setfile is based on EST time zone, ( GMT-5) i believe.
if you live in another time zone, you should adjust them to reflect your local time zone

Steve and/or any other proper coders out there could you look at something for me please?

taggie11 pointed out to me that she had no pending trades set last night and I replied something along the lines of well that because it was Monday. I then engaged a brain cell and realised she was correct - if Monday's candle was a pullback from the weekly/monthly then pendings should have been set (as per the intro from you Steve). Do not trade Mondays means just that - but after Monday NYC close (for Global Prime people anyway) - we are actually on "Tuesday" as far as trading days go. Do not trade Monday is designed to prevent trades opening at market opening based on Friday's candle.

taggie11 also pointed out that xfactornos had 10 pending trades on his FXCM account and I noticed he had none on the FinFx account. Now different D1 candles different results - no doubt BUT 10 seemed a bit high for that to be the explanation, given the 2 hour difference. So I had a look at the code and I think at line 3751:

Code: Select all

//Today's trading status
   int day = TimeDayOfWeek(TimeLocal() );
   TradingDayStatus = nottradingday;//default
   if (day > 1 && day < 6)//We trade Tues - Friday
   {
      TradingDayStatus = tradingday;
   }//if (day > 1 && day is < 6)
   else
   if (day == 1)
      if (TradeMonday)
         TradingDayStatus = tradingday;
Should read:

Code: Select all

//Today's trading status
   int day = TimeDayOfWeek(TimeCurrent() );
   TradingDayStatus = nottradingday;//default
   if (day > 1 && day < 6)//We trade Tues - Friday
   {
      TradingDayStatus = tradingday;
   }//if (day > 1 && day is < 6)
   else
   if (day == 1)
      if (TradeMonday)
         TradingDayStatus = tradingday;
As we actually want the server time to determine trading day. TimeDayOfWeek(TimeCurrent() ) is used elsewhere in the code for this check but not here. Could someone who knows what they are doing (as opposed to me :( ) confirm please?

I also noticed that there is a function: "int DayOfWeek();" that returns server day but I have no idea if this has issues or isn't used for some other reason but I thought I would point it out in case it is new.

Cheers,
Dave.

The idea is to trade at the end of Tuesday to give the markets time to decide on a direction on Monday. Tuesday's market then confirms the direction. Taking them on Monday night would be premature.

Things like pending trade expiry times have to be in broker time for obvious reasons.

Demo set up and ready to rock. I will check in on Tuesday morning (I'm in upside-down land so I guess that would be Tuesday for you US folks) with open positions to make sure I haven't ballsed anything up.
Thanks for what looks like another awesome idea and EA :hi:
