Here is my 25 cents worth of thinking on this topic of set files. I am in favour of allowing them. Here is why. The internet is the most radical evolution of human communication since the printed word. The printed word/thought revolutionised advancement of scientific advancement. Now, thinking people throughout the world could communicate world wide their breakthroughs in mathematics, history, philosophy ... Today this communication is instant. Good, bad or ugly, we have everything now, up to date, clear and concise on the internet (plus I grant you, a lot of garbage). Steve, someone may have a good set file but may miss something slightly but the next person who takes this set file may see some flaw and improve on it immediately. I know you hate people not reading the info you and other people provide and not doing their own testing, but in this case, I personally believe you would be served by letting the people that believe they have a good set file, to post these set files so others can improve on them. Without sounding elitist, let the smart people decide what set file makes sense to them and how they want to use it. You could enforce your set file posting by having the people post a trading record supporting the quality of their set file. Dave R. |

Steve when we follow each others test ideas from time to time looking at a set file makes this process easier and more accurate because you can see each setting behind the trial instead of only getting part of the background to the trial in some sort of written explanation. If people do stupid things with an EA or indy or set file it is their choice and it will motivate them to get their act together or perish. How many of us can say we haven't learned some things this way. You are doing the right thing explaining your work and risks and you do it well. There is much to learn from these testing processes I for one am appreciating the opportunity to work with you and the others here. |

The sharing of set files is one way for the testers to contribute to this forum. Set files only exist, because the coder provides in his EA or Indicator a set of parameters to be changed. Without parameters there wouldn't be a way to change the behaviour of the EA and there wouldn't be any set files. So, in a way, a set file can be considered as a particular configuration of the EA. One way to obsolete set files, is to hard-code all the parameter values in the EA by removing the 'extern' or 'input' keywords in the code. If we were to ban set files, for the reason that an idiot can take it as the Holy Grail and lose his account by using it, than for the same reason we should ban EAs. Idiots will always be there ... we can't protect them, and it is not our role or responsibility to protect them from themselves. Just my view. R. |

I got multiple requests for the file off-line, so decided to put it in the thread instead. For sure there is a huge difference between brokers and such on the profitability of the account. Back to business, I'm in awe of what happened since I went to bed last night. A short presentation of my 3 tests; 2% demo [M30, changed to H1 yesterday, trendtrades, close @ 2% profit]; - open DD 3360 pips last night - closed for 2% this morning [now flat] - this week 719 pips banked till now no-closure demo [M30, trendtrades, no-TP, OOTB jumpstop, intend to close Friday 20h00] - open DD 4018 pips last night - open floating profit over 1300 pips at the moment - this week 1390 pips banked till now [due to jumpstop] new settings demo [M30, trendtrades, H4 240MA filter, close @ 2% profit] started mondayevening - max DD 297 pips - closed 4 baskets since monday-evening - this week 1083 pips banked till now This EA has huge potential, up to us to find the right settings! |

It has been interesting this morning to read your opinions regarding sharing set files - all by members whose contribution I value. You guys make a convincing case for keeping them, so I will leave this feature alone. Thanks for all your contributions. |

Nice one Gertje, but 172 open trades require a lot of money |

Depends on leverage. This is a $1.000 account using 0.01 lots with 1:400 leverage. Marginlevel 700% at the moment. |

Hi Steve, traders, May I ask you something, about the latest version of Bob indi? With the latest version of Bob indicator, from what I understand the indicator will keep the value of the latest signal in the buffer until a new signal is generated by the indicator. This is done to keep the “repainting” signals on the chart only if the chart was open when this “repainting” signal occur. Now with Secret Bob's Basket this is the same thing from what I understand. If a “repainting” signal happen (e.g. signal occur and then disappear instantly), SBB will keep this value into the Current signal field until a new signal is generated by the EA. My question: I was monitoring trades and I had a “repainting” signal on USDCHF. On SBB the signal remained as a Trend signal until the end of the candle. One trade was opened. At the same time, I had 2 USDCHF chart opened: On the first one I have not updated the chart and the repainting signal remain on the chart. On the second one, I have updated the chart and the signal has disappeared. Now the next candle had also a Trend Signal which this time was confirmed (“not repainting”). SBB has opened a new trade on this new candle. Which mean I had 2 position opened in the space of 2 candles for only 1 confirmed signal. I understand the purpose of the no future indicator, it avoid to have trade opened and closed instantly when signal are not confirmed. Maybe an idea would be to have the option to avoid opening a new trade on the next candle? What is your view on this? Problem should occur only on small Timeframe. Hope I am clear. G |
