Your gridsize is 10, so it takes 90 pips one way for the EA to reach "L4" ["L9" actually] and send a new grid. This is the reason you don't get that many new ones since usually the EA should have closed eather all single trades @10pips or the hedge @5,- Good work, keep it up! |

Hmmmm... something to consider as this has been bugging me as you all know. Although at the moment I am more inclined to think about the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude. Thanks for your help and comments Gertje! Daniel |

What will bite you sooner or later, is L1 to L7 being closed, L8 opened and than a reversal. You end up with at least 80pips DD before the opposite side triggers. No problem whatsoever, if price continues its new course. @L-1 you're fully hedged, with 80pips DD @L-2 you start claiming back the DD @L-3 you have 70pips DD @L-4 you have 50pips DD @L-5 you have 20pips DD @L-6 you have 20pips UD, and started to make the 5,- basketTP [say 0,10 a pip, so 50pips] between L-6 and L-7 you have gained appr. 50pips and the hedge closes. So it takes ~140pips to get out of the hedge. Above is without commision and swap..... On the other side, if you have a retrace and a continuation after L8, no hedge is triggered and you continue pipping... |

Noticed you now got a live account. Wishing you all the best with it! I'm waiting for the end of this month as I am torn between Griddy Wotsit and HGBnG with a basket manager. They are both preforming nearly the same with Griddy Wotsit being slightly ahead but I am slightly worried about something with GW. When positions are stuck in a range and more than a couple of positions each are in a hedge, it takes quite a very large move in one direction to take out 2 or more opposite losing trades for my hedge to win. What I wonder on and off is whether there is a point that a hedge should be cut at a loss and have GW start its thing again? I've done a fair bit of research on Grid trading and the outside world comments are not for the most positive. Anyhoot, just thinking out loud. Happy Pipping! Daniel |

Sorry, but are you seriosly torn between a lunatic ea that can build up positions consisting of hundreds of trades that take a mini ice age to close and that was coded as a bit of fun, and a seriously heavy-duty piece of kit whose provenance includes input from some of the best minds contributing to this forum - and therefore any other forum? Wow. I suggest you give all this a rethink. Up to you, of course. |

This is how yesterday finished on my demo (11pairs) and live account (2 pairs). .. Gertje I think your 1000pip per day target for closed trades with a basket of pairs is about right Now what if we had a basket manager that looks at closed trades as well as floating P/L to close the trades that are in draw down if this reaches an acceptable figure relative to the day's profit perhaps that would help us reset the account every day or too at the optimal time to maintain forward progress more safely? The other thought I had was just activating GW for an hour at the start of the new D1 candle each day. This would limit the trading to a max of one hedged basket to close during that day and since price usually moves far enough one way or the other from the daily open to close a basket this could also be more painless. Finally as I am also doing some testing with MADDY for MAD-EA what about if we only activated GW for an hour at the start of the new D1 candle each day on a pair we we have a D1 signal to do so. Of course we are now limiting GW's trading massively but with 28 pairs and the pip hungry grid trading monster that GW is... |

Worth noting above that the EURJPY pip total on my live account was much lower than USDJPY because I only ran this for 15mins before and after the news and EURJPY closed it's small basket during this time but USDJPY didn't and built up a huge hedged position which I traded out of - a bit of work but worth it for the pips. |

Interesting that you say this. I've had a few brainstorming ideas with GW over the last day or so and one of my ideas was not too far from what you are saying although I was thinking somewhat of the following. What if all 28 pairs ran the Griddy Wotsit EA and a basket manager such as Tommaso's SAPBTM was used? If the settings for TP in the GW were shut off and we let the basket manager capture baskets? Any pair that is stuck in a somewhat ranging fashion just accumulating DD positions would do so, but all positions that trended in a direction would keep adding grid positions in a positive direction. Once a basket of a certain value such as £20 for example, SAPBTM can be set to close all open and pending position and the game restarts again. Surely out of 28 pairs there would be more trending in the grid rather than ranging an accumulating positions? I am very curious about this scenario and might test it soon. I'm nearly at a point of seeing my current GW experiment out the door as Steve is right in what he is saying about accumulating positions and taking a "mini ice age" to get out of the hedge. Although not to dumb down HGBnG it is the better thought out EA, I still think as crude as it may sound, GW has a place to make profit if used in the right way. I can't seem to let go of the idea that GW can make 1100+ pips in a few days and then it's like falling in a hole of quicksand and extremely difficult to get out. Personally, I think I am coming to a conclusion that if GW is used in a standard way without a basket and basket manager, that like any other trading system, there comes a point of needing to close and accept losses. As much as in the early stages of a hedge scenarios, possibly when there is 3-4+ positions are on each side, you are asking the market too much to have a winning swing to close a hedge. It would be best to close your losing hedge on both sides and start over again as you'd be better off making new pips a fresh. Just my 2 cents. Happy Pipping! Daniel |
