My only point is trade demo as if it is real account so lot size to be what you would trade with real money. Else, this will just be fun and play with no real learning and emotion control exercise, which are essential as a trader.

That's what I assumed you meant - I had just hoped you didn't.

I am sure you mean well but please discuss, what I believe is very flawed/misapplied advice, to trade psychology threads. You know nothing about me, my risk appetite, my money management methods, my trading equity or what I am trying to achieve by testing one EA or another. I really don't need your text book sound bites and if you do have a point just say it - don't hide it behind a question - then I might just say I disagree with you in this case and move on.

I suggest we just move on and you continue with what works for you - as will I.

Harry - that looks fine. You have thresholds set and the EA has to wait until the level for those pairs to go below those thresholds before it will look at the difference. IN demo it will have gone beyond those thresholds and once it has it doesn't reset until it passes back below the close threshold.

i believe under trade by difference, when the difference parameter of say 0.4 is reached, the trades will close, so its closing correctly based on the difference figure specified by the user. i think harry45's idea of using mptm gc might allow us to use baluda on h4 or even h1, assuming we have the pivot filter set up, since its pretty easy to bag 200pips across a few a pairs when it trends.

without the global closure the profits on the lower timeframes tend to evaporate when the trend is exhausted. will try this out on demo.

On your demo I am guessing the thresholds have been hit. When you restart the platform if there are global variables set (that hold the threshold "triggers" - not sure what they should be called) it will ask something like - do you want to reset the thresholds - if you say no then they will not reset. If you say Yes then I think it will match your live setup.

Thanks - I didn't realise this - if that is the case then that's great. It's then just a case of playing with the correct threshold figure.

Yes - I agree trend exhaustion is the key - but I am still not sure how you control the risk as we have no idea what pip value in draw down we would hit before the "stop" threshold was triggered? Loads of potential here though I think.

How has everyone dealt with the current drawdown? I bailed out eventually but if the current pullbacks across the board are just that I will get back in when the diff starts to head the other way. What it does seem to highlight is that closing the basket at a SL determined by an absolute slope difference doesn't seem likely to work because for example the diff on AUDCHF is still > 1.0 but with GBPAUD is approx -0.7 and both have retraced significantly.

Not sure what the answer is here. Maybe just like a lot of EAs it has to be babysat and some discretion used.

As stated in Post #1, tresholds (v1d) enable the EA to wait for trading currencies until they have been ranging (>-0.3, <0.3 - user configurable).

As I understand it, the original request for this filter was instead to enable the EA to wait trading currency pairs until the CSSDiff between these pairs have been ranging (>-0.3, <0.3 - user configurable).

This would indeed prevent opening trades for currencies pairs that are already trending but loosing/gaining relative strength at the start of the EA.

Zypip & others,

The Baluda EA is more about currencies than about symbols. All levels, differences and tresholds apply to currencies. This means that when the EA is initially started OOTB:

1. Slope values are calculated for all 8 currencies on each tick.
2. Currencies are not traded before they have been ranging. This is detemined by the 'StartingTreshold', so Baluda waits until a currency has been between -0.3 and 0.3. (Currency is waiting...)
3. Currencies that are not waiting (anymore) will be traded when above 0.4 or below -0.4. They are paired to a symbol with any other currency that is below -0.4 and above 0.4 resp.
4. Any open trade is closed when any one of the currencies in the symbol fall to ranging, that is between -0.3 and below 0.3.

Now some other things to consider:

• Described above is the 'TradeByLevel' trading style. Alternatively you can use the 'TradeByDifference' style which trades if the difference of the Slope values of the currencies in a symbol is greater than 0.8. These trades are closed ahen the difference is less than 0.4.
• The trading styles are mutually exclusive, 'TradeByLevel' has precedence over 'TradeByDifference'.
• At each initialization Baluda will ask if the tresholds need to be reset. 'Yes' means that Baluda deletes all tresholds.

Again, all levels, differences and tresholds are Slope values which pertains to currencies, not symbols.

Hi Paul,

I think we understand this - I think zypip and I perhaps haven't explained well enough what we mean.

- All our comments relate to trade by difference (trade by levels is perfect imo - thank you).
- As you stated above when you trade by difference the difference between the currencies that make up a particular pair trigger a trade or not based on the threshold (0.8 default) and close when the difference goes below 0.4 (default) - fantastic
- The absolute KEY part imo is this:

This makes perfect sense for trade by level. It makes less sense when you use trade by difference as you don't care whether each of the individual currencies was ranging - what you care about is the relative strengths of the currencies - whether the difference between 2 currencies was below a value (say 0.4) - that is really the ranging definition of trading by the difference.

I hope that makes sense.

I honestly think the trade by difference has more potential than trade by level and I already think trade by level is great!
