With the latest version of Bob indicator, from what I understand the indicator will keep the value of the latest signal in the buffer until a new signal is generated by the indicator. Now with Secret Bob's Basket this is the same thing from what I understand. If a “repainting” signal happen (e.g. signal occur and then disappear instantly), SBB will keep this value into the Current signal field until a new signal is generated by the EA.

My question:

I was monitoring trades and I had a “repainting” signal on USDCHF. On SBB the signal remained as a Trend signal until the end of the candle. One trade was opened.

At the same time, I had 2 USDCHF chart opened:

On the first one I have not updated the chart and the repainting signal remain on the chart.

On the second one, I have updated the chart and the signal has disappeared.

Now the next candle had also a Trend Signal which this time was confirmed (“not repainting”). SBB has opened a new trade on this new candle.

Which mean I had 2 position opened in the space of 2 candles for only 1 confirmed signal.

I understand the purpose of the no future indicator, it avoid to have trade opened and closed instantly when signal are not confirmed. Maybe an idea would be to have the option to avoid opening a new trade on the next candle?

What is your view on this? Problem should occur only on small Timeframe.

An ea can only do what it is programmed to do. This one is programmed to take a trade when it sees a signal. I cannot tell it to take a trade, but not to take it if the signal is about to become a false one or disappear.

I think a valuable addition to Secret Bob would be to make the most of the counter trend signals even when trading the trend. So the idea is simple - when trading trend only and NOT taking the counter trend trades, the EA could set pending a pending sell stop order a couple of pips below the counter trend signal candle (when in a down trend) and vice versa for an up trend.

The CT signals are essentially pull backs in the trend so if the trend continues you maximize trading opportunities and if it doesn't continue then the trade doesn't get triggered.

I would suggest that you'd want to limit the number of CT pending orders open (probably to just one?) but perhaps any new CT signal at a better price could replace the existing one?

Thoughts? If you look at a few charts it seems to make sense - certainly on the 30 min + charts, perhaps a bit noisy on the lower timeframes.

Yep.

Huge equity swings, parts being banked on each retrace.
Some pairs are hedging themselves after crossing the H4 240MA, locking in losses but not making them greater.

Have to run now, will see later tonight if there has been a killingfield or not.... :smile:

I have two demos going with 1g this week on M15 and H1 started beginning of Asian Monday session. Using Getje's set file. Using Bully Pepperstone. Results similar to his so far both demos have had two basket closures at +200 pips each time. On M15 DD was substantial if not scary over 3,000 pips not so bad on H1. That the M15 baskets came back from such big DD positions is most impressive. Potential is there.

In reviewing my SSB trades one simple idea for addition to SSB appeared. I think easy to code........

Add to SSB for Trend trading close trade on opposite Trend signal.

My two demos this week are trading the 240ma on the TF of the chart (15m or 1H). I am taking Trend only trades. The DD is coming from PA going into ranging or retracing action or full blown reversal. Some are rather large as they zoom off in the wrong direction. If for Trend trading we had an option to close the trade when an opposite Trend signal appeared this would cut short a fair few of these loosing trades. So what is happening here is a Trend trade is taken then price shoots off in wrong direction across chart's 240ma. At first retrace a new Trend signal appears in the opposite direction. This could well be the best possible exit for this loosing position as we don't really want to hold a trade zooming off on wrong side of 240ma. Of course the hold option sometimes results in the original trend resuming. This week the baskets have closed before this return to trend happened for many of the looser trades resulting in a big DD for SSB to overcome. i.e. potential profit used to negate some big loosers.

One plus of this idea is that once your looser trades are closed the EA is free to enter into new trend - this is affected by number of trades taken and number of trades to take setting, so is another variable to test.

SSB EA is very clever. This week some of the winner charts are a thing of beauty.

Idea number two has emerged same sort of idea as above. This exit option is exit trade X pips on wrong side of chart's 240ma from original Trend trade. This is simpler and more consistent perhaps because the first new trend signal won't appear until there has been some sort of retrace of new trend, so sometimes this would result in a biggish loss quite far from the 240ma. Comment please just and idea to consider.

Is it better to download an EA and run it OOTB, or load up a set file? Both are not good if you dont understand them. That's probably why most people run EA's on demo first. Running an EA OOTB without looking at the settings and understanding them is just as dumb as loading up a set file without understanding it.

How about we post set files and no EA's? :lol:

2% demo [M30, changed to H1 yesterday, trendtrades, close @ 2% profit];
- open DD 3360 pips last night
- closed for 2% this morning [now flat]
- this week 719 pips banked till now

no-closure demo [M30, trendtrades, no-TP, OOTB jumpstop, intend to close Friday 20h00]
- open DD 4018 pips last night
- open floating profit over 1300 pips at the moment
- this week 1390 pips banked till now [due to jumpstop]

new settings demo [M30, trendtrades, H4 240MA filter, close @ 2% profit] started mondayevening
- max DD 297 pips
- closed 4 baskets since monday-evening
- this week 1083 pips banked till now

This EA has huge potential, up to us to find the right settings!
