Is Alpari UK offering any alternatives for continuing to trade with currently running programs? You are now chatting with Client Support – As you know the current build available through us is 509. Once Meta Quotes offer us a different build, this will be available for all clients. It is not something in Alpari's control as we are an execution only broker and Mata Quotes provides us with the software of their products. For the time being it is version 509

Lheon:
Do you mean that once MQL offers you a new build you will immediately implement it and old builds will no longer be usable?

Shwan:
That's not necessarily the case, but yes if they provide us with an updated version of the platform, this is the one that must be used. That's not to say that a slightly older version will stop working. But eventually you must upgrade it to the latest version. It is not in our hands.

Lheon:
Do you have any reliable information from MQL as to whether currently running programs will continue to run seamlessly in the proposed build?

Shwan:
No we don't have any information from them. Any indicators and EAs compatible with Empty4 should be working without any issues on the current build. For any further updated versions, we haven't been informed but they should still run

Shwan:
Again, it is not something we can control as it is the software that they make available for brokers and clients

Lheon:
I quite understand. But you also have a responsibility as a broker to, at the very least, relay your clients' concerns to a company you give your custom to, and to demand concrete answers of them in respect of a forthcoming development. I don't think it is enough to simply fold your arms and watch while MQL twists YOUR clients round their fingers. As at this stage of recent developments, I am surprised that you cannot give any definite answers to the issue of backward compatibility.

Shwan:
Understood, we are in the same category as a broker. There is communication between Alpari and the software developers but ultimately it is their product and they upgrade it when they feel is fit. Why do you think your EA will no longer work if an update to Empty4 is made? It may still work but we cannot guarantee it since we do not upgrade it. We can't give you a guarantee on products (the EA or the upgrade to MT) compatibility, when we do not develop them

Lheon:
It seems as if you are hearing of this concern for the first time from me! A lot of traders out there share this worry, having learnt of the surreptitious plan of MQL to introduce MT5 in the guise of Empty4. Anyway, since you cannot furnish the reassurance I wanted, I will have to wait on MQL. Thank you.

Shwan:
Once the software is given to us, we need to upgrade our platforms too. It doesn't mean the older version won't work, but eventually an upgrade is required as Meta Quotes would stop supporting older builds of Empty4/5. Same scenario occurs with Windows.

Jem, You guys need to pony up the millions to get in the US. Or maybe I just need to make enough trading to form a trust and incorporate offshore, lol Oh well, neither are likely to happen.

I was really surprised to find that this was not so and that, in fact, it didn't seem to be anything of a big deal at all. Well, I have gone ahead and installed the new 579, and to my pleasant surprise, practically every indi, ea and script I have loaded has behaved normally, including Baluda's Info Page indis! My old templates will not load straight-off and were taking some time whilst the platform froze up. And so I simply recreated them from scratch, and are now all working perfectly. Don't know how others took this impending update, but it has been talked up to look like some doomsday coming upon us. It really doesn't look like it now, and I am left wondering if there hasn't been a bit of an over-reaction.

The problem is, as you can easy see in the fast changing of versions numbers, that this all is in beta phase, not more not less, and maybe it was the biggest error from mt to announce the update to early .. you should have really stable versions before doing any update for all... I am glad that things are now smoother with this update than first intended. I disagree though about what is going on. I have followed Metacrappers since they were on MT3, then a very innovative small and fast growing company. They have become very commercialized and developed an arrogance like Microsoft and are mainly serving brokers. Without the tireless effort and protests of many technically minded traders, who I applaud and thank, we would have paid the price for many more failed experiments, and the functionality of our existing programs would have long been abandoned. We need traders who speak out or things won't stay smooth. Does anyone know more about if the issue regarding files and offline charts is now resolved?
