Hello,

I came across PT3 when researching LMAX Exchange, for me the concept of LMAX is great as long as you have a true STP broker of course.

I am just finding it harder and harder to trust any broker with Empty4, and when my brokers Empty4 server freezes while I have a live trade and I get the response - "Empty4 is just really old and problematic, there's not much we can do", I know it's time to move.

So I downloaded a PT3 demo account and took it for a spin. First impressions...WOW.

It looks a lot like cTrader but a load of extra features that are actually developed - not "in development", or "yes we are planning to implement this in the next version" - which was cTrader's downfall for me.

Execution speed is lightening quick! Visually it is a refreshing change to Empty4, and everything can be customised - Workspaces, Panels, Charts, even down to the type and color of the trading buttons.

I imported a few of my trusted Empty4 indi's and EA's - yep MPTM was the first and it worked. I will admit I've had a few issues with other indi's and EA's but PFSoft have been only too happy to help troubleshoot, and the issue has been resolved to minor syntax errors that pass the Empty4 compiler but just need to be corrected for PT3.

I think Jeremy has a valid point - without brokers onboard a demo account is all you'll be able to trade. This might sound weird but the fact PFSoft is slowly finding its way in the market gives me some reassurance this isn't another platform with development backing from LP's and PB's designed to favour them, then rolled out to all their retail brokers like the Empty4 model. The fact that the pricing structure of Empty4 servers is so appealing to brokers makes me think - is this pricing model discounted because in the end I am being traded against anyway in a dealing centre with price manipulated algorithms?

Jeremy the flip side to your valid argument is - would a trader be willing to pay more in commission if the platform was more transparent and gave them more confidence it wasn't a rigged trading structure? I can only answer for one trader, Me - and the answer is yes.

As far as trading platforms go I will never use a broker developed platform because they are all Market Maker brokers. Tradestation and Ninja Trader would be an option but because they're not free there are limited compatible brokers. cTrader was a glimmer of hope but I had a bad experience and found they are still very much Beta testing to live traders, and their roll-out has been dismal. So when a platform comes along with all the things I have been looking for and is compatible with MQL4 and the flexibility to take it to the next level with C#, I was extremely curious.

So if you've every felt confined by the limitations of Empty4 - then I recommend you find a few uninterrupted hours and demo PT3. Change is never easy but one day you know you'll have to cut the cord with Metaquotes, so keep an open mind to Protrader and PFSoft.

Disclosure - I am not in anyway affiliated with PFSoft. In this forum I have previously posted about exploring an alternative to Empty4 and at the time was looking at cTrader.

I have posted this as I have genuinely found PT3 to be a solid trading tool with a lot of functions I have been wanting but not available in Empty4. PFSoft have been extremely helpful in answering my questions and assisting whenever needed.

I feel exactly the same about ProTrader & C-Trader. It does every thing I want/need (now) to move away from Empty4. The only thing lacking is any brokers offering it that I would feel comfortable depositing my money with.

I originally started out trading options on the ASX in the mid 90's. In those days the brokers didn't offer free charting software and it was normal to pay several hundred/thousand dollars just to be able to do stock charting. In this day and age I balk at paying for software, but ProTrader3 is so good that I would be prepared to go back to the olden days and pay an upfront fee to use it!

If the pricing structure is excluding small FX brokerages like Global Prime from offering ProTrader then probably Axi Trader is about the best shot we'd have of a reputable Australian ECN style broker offering it.

PFSoft have indicated an Australian broker is in the process of setting up a PT3 server.

Wait and watch I guess.

Without going into the actual numbers I received the fees and payment structure. What you guys are trying to achieve is great and I wish you all the best. However offering ProTrader to our clients is not something we can look at until the pricing structure changes significantly.

I'll say this again for any new platform developers - you need to make it cost efficient for a brokerage to bring you on. It doesn't matter how good the platform is, you won't gain market share away from Empty4 unless it's easy for brokerages of all sizes to offer your platform to their clients.

Cheers,
Jeremy
I am thrilled to see developments here in this sub-forum. To be honest guys, even when I started I assumed that all we would be left with after a few weeks would be a few failed experiments with a few other crap platforms.

No so it seems but Sergey, you have a problem.

Global Prime is the most innovative and customer-responsive broker you will meet. Here at SHF you have the most adaptive and enthusiastic membership of any forum you will come across. If you cannot structure a price that allows you to offer ProTrader to GP's clients, then you have a real problem selling your platform.

I will play with ProTrader over the coming break when the markets are open but quiet. Whether I or others do so or not will be irrelevant unless GP can offer it to me as an alternative platform to Empty4.

Steve,

I know CEO of other (or even two) 'the most innovative and customer-responsive broker'. So, let's not use the word 'most'.

As I told, I am engeneer and although I have my own thoughs about our price model and etc., I will keep them with me. Just a note, I am personaly agree with you almost fully but such questions are above my pay grade.

Let's talk technical topics. =)

I will use the word 'most' if I want to. This is my forum and I will do what I damn well please. Don't tell me what or what not to do.

Not much point in discussing technical topics if the most important broker at shf cannot afford to use your platform. For me, and for anybody else with a firing brain cell, the broker is the most important piece of the jigsaw. If you cannot provide your platform at an affordable price the broker will pay, then it will not be used.

If question of price is above your pay grade, then fire it off to someone who can deal with it and get him/her here pronto.

If memory serves me, Sergey Kovalyov , now of PFSoft, is the same as the MQL4 inventor as listed on MQL4 Forum ?
(Just made a quick comment re: protrader.com on another thread, and then discovered this dedicated thread.)

Having been through the horrible doc/support of MQL4, I am hoping that this new Protrader3 does a much better job. Now how do I register on this really slow protrader.com to download a demo or try it online with Google Chrome? Seems the website and support still suck ... what is the point of launching something first and then promising that the basic user guide will 'soon' be available? Protrader is no IPhone yet.

That is something of a relief Martin. My first thought when I read atharnian's post was, "Oh crap. He buggered up Empty4, what will he do to this one?" :xm: :xm: :xm:

I still like what I see with ProTrader. To me the main advantage over Empty4 is the backtesting. I know Steve is not a fan of backtesting, but I assume this mainly stems from the fictional results produced by Empty4. So far I have been able to backtest a 3 currency (written in mql4) EA on tick data, using the real spreads as they were at the time. Try doing that on any other piece of software out there - I can't think of any that will do it. You can even set such things as a latency parameter for your backtests, and it has proper walk forward analysis included.

Also, you can use it to convert your mql4 EA's into C# to get you started with programming in a real unrestricted language and use other features in your EA such as market depth.

As well as that, renko, range, P&F charts etc, are all built in.

No I don't work there, I am just happy to finally find some software that does the things I want.

Now just waiting for a reputable ECN style broker with AUD accounts to offer it...
