HGI for beginners.
Bob,
Should we avoid refreshing the charts? As you stated, turning Empty4 off and on or changing TFs will change the signals.
Do you try to keep the charts unchanged to preserve signals?
If I refresh the charts and signals appear which would not have if I had not touched the chart, do those signals carry less weight?
Thank you

Seems like I'm still not getting something- to delete all those 'Open Trades' lines on every chart I put the template on makes the template rather less helpful than it seems it should be. Am I to delete them at some master level? Sorry to be dense....rosst » Tue Dec 09, 2014 6:45 pm wrote:Open Objects list under Charts - select everything and delete - one of the MA's is also black - you might want to change that too...Leslie » Tue Dec 09, 2014 5:20 pm wrote:If this is a duplicate, my apologies but I can't find what I thought I posted. Or, it was disappeared for not being in the dummies thread? If so, apologies for that as well.
I installed the updated v15.01.ex4 and it's template in their respective folders, loaded them on a chart with 1 open and several pending trades and got this showing a zillion losing trades that don't exist- please, what have I done wrong and how do I fix it? I did delete the old templates from the folder. Thanks.

Once you get the chart the way you want it, save the template again.Leslie » Tue Dec 09, 2014 8:21 pm wrote:Seems like I'm still not getting something- to delete all those 'Open Trades' lines on every chart I put the template on makes the template rather less helpful than it seems it should be. Templates save all kinds of stuff. You must have saved the template with lines on it.
example - If you save a template with an EA attached and run the template on another chart, the ea will attach itself.

i could be remembering it wrong though

looks like I need to learn the MT5 style coding.... jeez, just when I was getting comfy with Empty4 pre build 500 non-sense..... along comes this.
Ya, I know Steve, this is for the coders section...
Well, I'm off to find some coding tutorials.....

Open the data window (ctrl D). You will see your version of HGI followed by Value 2 through to Value 8. These are 'buffers' the indi uses to store the information that an ea can extract. Each buffer is coded within the indi code to react differently to containing certain values. HGI will show a large green up arrow when buffer 0AnotherBrian » Wed Dec 10, 2014 12:18 am wrote:Here is a question for the coders. contains a price. This is entirely an indi thingy and the arrow will not show up in the objects window.
There are 8 buffers, shown as 1 to 8 in the data window, but numbered 0 to 7 in the code, so what looks like buffer 1 is actually buffer 0. Lunacy, I know, but this is the lunacy I deal with every day.
Non-value buffers either contain 0 or the constant EMPTY_VALUE, which is a huge integer that no market will ever reach. HGI uses EMPTY_VALUE, so this snippet shows how HGB interrogates and reacts to buffer 0:
Code: Select all
val = GetHGI(Symbol(), TradingTimeFrame, 0, shift);
if (!CloseEnough(val, EMPTY_VALUE) )
{
TrendArrowStatus = Trenduparrow;
WaveStatus = Wavenone;
}Read the effing manual, ok?

When stacking trades every 20 pips with a tp of 30 what do you do if you start around xx.600? Bob said he stops at the xx.000 lines but I noticed in his example in the manual he went through the first xx.00 line into the next 100 pip section. What warrents doing that? If we start at xx.600 do we carry through to the next 100 pip section and not stop at the immediate xx.00 line but rather the following one?
Here is an example if I am confusing....or maybe I am just confused...ha ha.
We open at 1.600...set a tp at 1.900.
We also set a buy at 1.800 and is our tp set to 2.00 because that is the immediate xx.00 or do we set it at 2.100 to make it a tp of 30? (I guess that is yet another question)
And here is where the original question comes in....do we stop here at 2.00 with the two trades or do we set another buy at 2.00 and a tp at 2.300 following all theway to three?
And I guess while I am at it where do you set a stop on a rad arrow and do we use stops ever with the 20 pip stackig method?
I am guessing by now you probably want me to "stop" with the questions....
Thanks for helping
Chris

Thanks Bob, for taking the time to answer. You cleared up a lot of confusion and I understand this awesome indi much better now!nanningbob » Tue Dec 09, 2014 3:00 pm wrote:Good questions.wolfeman » Tue Dec 09, 2014 3:06 pm wrote:I have a few questions that have been eating at me since I first read the user guide. I've read over the particular section many times and I still don't get it.
Regarding range trades: The introduction of the 60 MA leads me to believe that it's purpose it to confirm we are in a full blown trend or, we are in a range; correct? The EA won't (or shouldn't) take a trend trade when we are between the MA's, as this is when we range trade.
In the user guide, Bob shows two chart examples of range trades. The first clearly shows range trades only being taken when price was between the MA's. The second example shows range trades being taken when the MA's were in the trend position, along with others that were in the range. So, what's the deal? In my mind, we should only take range trades when price is between the MA's. Now, I'm sure as heck not gonna tell Bob how to trade (like I could, lol) or Steve how to write an EA (OMG could you imagine?) But what's the point of the 60MA if we are not going to respect it in it's entirety?
A little comparing of the HGB indi and the 240 buy/sell indi shows what we now call range trades, are what we used to call CT trades. That makes perfect sense to trade those; if we are indeed in a range. Yet my HGB EA was taking lots of range trades when we are clearly in trend country. WTF? I had so many effed up range trades (that in my mind, should never have been taken) that I just turned them off. I think that properly executed range trades would have been a Godsend in the last 24 hours or so; but I had them turned off. I will note, that I haven't kept up with all the updates to the EA (they were coming in pretty fast- when does Steve sleep?) and if this is/was indeed an issue, it may have been dealt with already.
Has anyone else had this come up for them? Or, has this been addressed and I missed it? Am I high and don't realize it?
The range arrows are determined by the slope not the 60 line. The 60 lines is a reference point to help confirm the arrows. Whether the arrows are big or small is determined by strength of move. The strength of move is determined by the slope not the 60 line. So price could be outside the lines but the slope will show that price has moved from strength to weakness thereby giving you the small arrow. This small arrow shows that the move has exhausted itself and a strong move should not be expected. This can happen outside both lines and should mean price will now go inside the 60/240 lines. While inside the 60 and 240 you could get a large arrow showing that a currency is strengthening according to the slope. This is a good sign that price will break into a trend move. So with the 60/240 lines and the strength of the arrows you should be able to deduce whether price is going to go inside and be a range time/reversal time. If inside the 60/240 or touching them the arrows should show which way it will break to become a trend. So that is how you can read them together.
I'm so sorry I was unable to connect with you personally, last year in Lake Tahoe. Does your world tour involve another trip through California? If so, I would like to make good on the offer to take you to lunch. Please let me know!

Sorry meant to post this in the main HGI forum. Have re-posted message in correct section.
I have a question regarding the wavy line buffers.
At the moment we are able to receive alerts when the wavy lines appear.
However is it technically possible to have the option to only receive alerts buffer 8 when looking for entries and once in a trade have the option of activating alerts for buffer 7 to alert you of a possible exit.
