So it's just when the MA crosses on the D1? |

Basically it starts with that yes. A few conditions. http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... &start=128 |

And so the Aucad might be a buy right now, despite the fact that the D1 TMA slope is quite negative? |

Well the fact that the D1 TMA slope is negative doesn't bother me per se - kind of the point of the thread I guess. Having said that it depends how the pair has reacted in the past and how fast the trend has been. Often it seems that very fast moving trends will pull back deeply but will have momentum for another push in the trend direction before moving the way the cross indicates. If you have a look at various pairs you will see where this happens - EURCAD is perhaps a good example. If you see the cross happened after a fast moving downtrend on about 30th July. Price moved up then fell anther 160 pips from the level of the cross and over 300 pips from the height of the pull back. As I said from the start with this method it isn't purely mechanical - it just doesn't work that simply (nor does anything I have found in Forex yet). So in this case I would look at other AUD pairs that were trending similarly and notice that they are nowhere near crossing back over yet - this in itself would make me wait until a significant cross had happened before going long. And perhaps the last point is that the cross hasn't happened yet. We are dealing with D1 timeframe and, although I didn't explicitly say so, I always look for the bar to close after the cross as the TMA line is effectively not fixed until the daily bar closes. I never trade, with whatever method/timeframe I am using, until price closes beyond whatever line/level etc I am looking at. |

Thanks for the explanation. One difference is that I use the 21 SMA whereas I think you use a linear weighted average. As your plot show it hasn't crossed for that MA but it has for the SMA. |

Hi NeoTrader, I have been trying the idea you posted Aug 3rd, a quick lookback has confirmed that this looks good, however I noted today that although H4 and M15 were meeting the criteria H1 was not. Had I taken the trade when M15 crossed at this time then 7 bars later on the M15 tf a huge ranging bar occurred, I would have been stopped out, or if no S/L was in place had to absorb about a 55 pip loss. By also trying a 13 EMA as well as the 21 EMA, although the 21EMA was still well below the H1 slope line, the 13 EMA crossed and at present price is up 50+ pips. That would be good enough for me anyday. But still going to continue following the action on EUR/USD As you may know I am very interested in spreadbetting,(see TMA Discussion) especially now that a number of criminals allow it using the Empty4 platform. I wondered if your system was able to be coded as an EA sometime, and that ofcourse is also if the criteria for spreadbetting was able to be used. Havent checked out what the requirements are yet as I wanted to test how well the system worked and see how well I coped. Your comments always welcome Allonso |

Hi Allonso, I am also experimenting with the MA21 and MA13. But there will be losses some times...there is no holly grail where you will win every time as I'm sure you already know. It depends on how you set your SL and TP's to see how profitable your strategy will become. I use most of the time the latest swings as SL Level and as TP the same pips as entry prize to SL...which will give me a R:R of 1:1. It should be possible to code an EA as the entries are easy to build as an algorithm. You can use my TMA rule tester (see in my thread) to experiment with different settings and combinations to find the right entry combination. Since Spreadbetting is almost the same as normal Forextrading it should also be usable in this environment but I don't have any experiences with it. I myself have also a visual testing environment where I'm able to test different strategies based on rules as in my rule tester plus a couple of other rules i already have and use. I am using this to test and refine my rules (entry and exit) before I setup a dashboard/screener or EA based on this rules/rulesets. hope this helps. happy trading, NeoTrader P.S.: If you have more questions in this direction feel fre to PM me since this is not more related to the topic in this thread. - |

Hi Neo and everyone here Thanks Neo for return pm. Thought I would share what I doing right now trying to work out relationship of slope level and angle Trading on the D1 I am using the three slope method and Neo's TMA tester indicator as initial signal generator for entries and exits. H4.D1, and Wk TMA 21 LWMA cross signals are set up with three instances of Neo's tester indy. In addition I have a a D1 TMA slope true on the chart with a 21 LWMA and developing rules for exits and entries that are based on slope angle and change and relationship of slope to the slope MA. I am finding these relationships are different for the ranging band <.4 >-.4 and for reversal or counter trend slopes, (meaning >.4 for a sell), compared to trending slopes (>.4 <-.4). This is logical if you thing about it. I need more time to test these rules but thought I would just show you guys what my chart looks like. There is one rule I have found that I think has great promise for exits. This rule I think demonstrates that it is the relationship of slope angle, level that is the key. And I think the 21 LWMA helps us to see this well. So here's the rule I am in a trade and the D1 slope angle slows then goes level or bends back towards MA. As this is confirmed with a 2nd candle I exit. I don't wait for cross to exit. This is at times up to three candles before the 3 TMA 21 LWMA system gives the exit signal. I am finding this rule pretty consistently gives a good exit. It could also be combined of course with other signals like pivot cross goals etc. I am going to leave it there for now as I need to do more work on this and utilise the other options in NEO's TMA tester indy notably the ability to test slope angle against the other parameters. Here's a chart of a trade I took this morning showing the Neo's test indy set-up signalling buy. The slope is trending and moving up from the MA. Happy Trading...... |

Hi All Looking at all the systems we have, based on TMA slope, I get the impression, we enter rather late. Therefore I am trying to operationalise slope direction and it's possible use for an EA. I have no coder's skills. I have placed this concept at http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 998#p23998 and would appreciate some feedback. Thanks Mike |

It's been a bit quiet recently - pretty flat/confused markets for the most part (looking at D1 anyway) so I have been looking at lower timeframes with limited success Cheers, Dave. EDIT: There are a few other possible candidates developing too - GU being the most obvious I guess. |
