IMO fixed-pip SL / TP / BE / etc is the WRONG way to do things in general. Volatility changes from day to day or hour to hour, and different pairs have different volatility behavior. You should use volatility-scaled stops, using ATR or something similar. That way the EA can respond to changes in volatility, and it might also be able to use the same stop inputs on different pairs. That's the way I build all my systems on Tradestation and it works much better than fixed values.

I think Eval gets great results in his manual trading. But, like many of these approaches, it seems to work best during the Euro hours, which is the middle of the night for me. I'd really like to see an EA that implements his approach successfully, even if it doesn't do as well as Eval can. An EA that can run overnight and capture 50% of what Eval can, would still be a huge improvement over "nothing."

Gary I have not given up on Evals method and I would not encourage anybody else to do so and I am still looking at it on 60-5. Just need a break from it till I get my head around it more. But I would just like to see if I can run Symphonie on a higher time frame because I am just more comfortable there. But this is just using my own exit strategy on the higher time frames because Eval did not develop his strategy for higher time frames. On the higher time frames you should not need a dual system as much because you are already getting a lot more data in each candle and less noise. However extreme cycles on higher time frames can come sometimes days apart and more than a week apart on the 240 min and that is an issue in a single exit strategy on the higher time frame and even more so with the using of a dual strategy.

Eval maybe able to give us some Ideas about what might make the 60-5 work better. He is very busy with his online forum but I hope we will get this 60-5 working. It is early and he seems to know his indicators very well and his system well. Yes I know we should keep it as pure to his idea as we can, so I just have stopped trying to make it work till we get some more input from Eval. Targets and take profits do not seem to work well on the 60-5 anyway. It needs to work the way Eval intended it to work if it has a chance I think.

Slowkey,

Symphonie can be used in higher timeframes and if you do not like the Symphonie 60-5 timeframes then adjust them to your needs. You can trade Daily for signal and hourly for entry point if that suits your needs. The entire purpose of Symphonie 60-5 is using a stable timeframe that identify trends (i.e. 60min) and using smaller timeframe as one guides for order entry to ensure greater success of order entry.

So a Modification could be.....2 hour 15 min
4 hour 30 min
Daily 1 hour
4 Hour Weekly
(the whole purpose is using the higher timeframe for signal and the lower timeframe the entry point because at the time of the highertimeframe signal the two timeframes are out of sync and once they sync together is avoids many whipsaws and provides and excellent entry with good price action at time of order entry.)

If you read the thread there is also another method were you have a Symphonie signal and if the Sentiment and Emotion of the next timeframe greater do not agree then one does not take the order. There are several different methods listed in Post#1 that can help one identify entry points and trending patterns. But one can use Symphonie in any timeframe and with any currency pair.

@evaluator. One question please. Are you using the recommend timeframe ratios in your last post with wavecounting?

Hi Eval, slowkey, mediator and gary,
as you've noticed, i have set up 3 of the accounts on myfxbook. I don't know how to reset them, so it can show the more recent additions. I only started today with my new settings so it's very unfair to judge the bot by looking at the charts. if anyone knows how to reset the myfxbook, please let me know. i could'nt find anything.

Mediator, i like your idea and it probably stems from the repainting issues, but i must tell you that i've been testing the four that i was able to find for about a month now, and i'm starting to lean over to Evals version 2. I just seems ot be more stable. My recent fiddle is with the RSI setting, i changed from '21' to '14' and sometimes, i go as low as '9'. i'm getting far more positions and i'm also down to 5-5 now. Slowkey is handling the larger TF's and i'll concentrate on more 'Guerilla' tactics, in and out. small profits to make one big profit. i'd liek to look at your Indi's once you get the time, but will stick to the symph Original for now. Lets see if Eval likes them otherwise we can try implement them seperately. you did a great job with the Sentiment as did mdkennel.

the negative, is like what's happening right now. the EA took a win from the beginning of this downtrend and stayed out so far for most of the decline. i am running anothe rbot you'll notice on the fx page thingy, that works off the cycles only., it is meant to catch the pullback and then jump on again when the cycle changes and run back down. i also set very small TP and SL, but it's failing miserably, whereas Synphonie is just avoiding it. lets see what happens when the market turns.

i am really going to follow up on Gary's idea of the ATR, i can't remember which chart i attached it to, but he is spot on here. it has to run with it, and so will play with it when i find it. probably start another couple of pairs running ATR, but keeping the low TP's as mediator is saying, this is half the days movement therefore it would be interesting to see which way would be more profitable. maybe even ATR in the higher TF's would be a great idea, that way catching the whole movemnet, but using symphonie to exit, i think. it's definately worth a try and makes a lot of sense. i'm glad Steve left it in so we can try all the options.

Eval, we are trying everything, trying to stick to the rules as much as possible, i hope you are following and your input is always welcome, off course. i'm going to wait for slowkey to get up and going again, and we'll compare results before we make any other changes. so far, the only mod i have done to the EA, apart from stopping the alerts, is changed some of the charts to run the ea looking back for only 2 bars. i think 4 bars is too much for this market right now, especially when my TP's are so low. the majority though, is running standard as Steve programmed. i'm sure you read that slowkey is going to try higher timeframes, which will be interesting to compare.

all the EA's settings can be viewed on the fxbook page, there's a little squigly thingy on the far right of a position, just mousey over it, i dont think you need to click, and if you can make out the short-code, great, otherwise, pm me, and i'll send you a small legend or something like that.

Kind regards to all,
george

Guys, there is a lot of angst here about what Evaluator does or does not do.

This is entirely missing the point of having an EA. The point of having an EA is this: to experiment with the settings until you find a group of settings that work for you. Those of you unable to grasp this have a lot still to learn and, sadly, probably a lot of money still to lose.

The manual traders who are trading Symphonie successfully do not need an ea. Ok, so they will use one if, by any remote chance, it actually manages to trade with 90% or so of the success that their manual trading manages, but they do not need it. Why? Because they have successfully adapted S to their own trading style.

Only the naive or stupid think that said traders enjoyed such success by slavishly following Eval's 'rules'. They didn't. They adapted the rules to suit their own trading style - or maybe finally found a way of developing a style that had eluded them through the previous 5 blown accounts.

Guys, you have here a fantastic trading robot that allows you to experiment with a multitude of different settings. Just damn well experiment, ok, and don't sit waiting in baby-style for someone else to do your thinking for you.

He posted a rar file in other threads too. I recommend you DO NOT open it, and CERTAINLY don't run the exe.

Said dimwit is deleted, along with his 'contributions' - in far less time than it took the cretin to register here. Account deletion time is about 20 seconds.

I love being a PCA.
