Many thingies that were undoubtedly true 10 years ago are no longer so, or at least are less true and becoming less and less so as time passes.

Criminal brokers who once had things entirely their own way are starting to go bust.

Retail traders who once routinely lost all their cash are no longer doing so quite so routinely. Some of us are even starting to profit.

There is a reason for this? It is time and experience. Ok, so two reasons, but stop being picky.

There are a group of us at the core of shf who have been at this game for a decade. We 'grew up' in forex terms, together. They do not all contribute here these days, but did so in the past and gradually added to the breadth and depth of all of our experiences. I still see them passing by from time to time.

Now we have people at the core with a wealth of experience gained mostly through pain over a considerable period of time. There is this thing about forex trading that kept some of us banging away at it even though it often felt like two steps forward and three steps back.

We bring to this business a staggering force of intellect (well, OK, so not me but let's move on), experience, understanding and mental toughness. To put it bluntly, we are an unstoppable force of nature. Anyone who has the nous to do a bit of serious reading here will cut short the learning process by years and maybe save themselves a few of the blown accounts the rest of us have in our background.

If the equivalent of shf had existed 10 years ago, then ours would not exist now because we would not need it. It did not exist back then because the expertise was lacking to create it. A few forums tried, especially the biggest of them all, but ultimately they drove away the very growing experience that would have made them into something special.

To the immeasurable benefit of shf, some later members have stayed quiet and learned.

A classic case of this is Kevin. He joined in Jan of 2014 and stayed quiet for a long time. There are all sorts of reasons why he should have stayed quiet but I am going to assume the best ones. He read and learned. Then he exploded onto HGBnG with the force of a supernova with the intent to do good for all mankind. What an explosion. Is he an invaluable member of shf, or what?

We are getting stuff right here folks. Ignore the oldies who intone that such-and-such is impossible. We are changing the rules at shf.

Grrrr! I was backtesting GBPJPY on GW for the year of 2015 for days now because it was running fast and swimmingly through tick mode until after a while it took a bit of a snail pace for some reason. None the less, I left it gong. I was half way through the year with some interesting results.

Then, I decided to delete one of my demo accounts that I was using in order to create a fresh one.

As I hit delete, the autotrading function switched off and so did the EA in backtesting. BLAMMO.
All those days of running for nearly nothing.

The good news is that now I have loaded the latest version of GW and can confirm it is successfully closing profitable trades first. THANKS STEVE!

As for now, I have started the process all over again and it is at high speed. I hope it doesn't slow down like the previous.

Just felt I needed the bit of a rant.

Cheers! :jump:

UPDATE!

After testing the GBPYJPY in the year of 2015, I am very impressed with some of the results.

Slowly ticking away and following PA, GW sets the pending orders and opens them at my settings of 20 pips apart quite nicely. WIth the hedge basket set at £5 and the Global profit set at £5, the point of my exercise is to have a low risk earner with a live deposit of £500 which I am willing to invest while demoing other things. It is my opinion that this investment is low risk and better than leaving it in my bank doing nothing with most countries having extremely low interest rates.

Two things to point out as I yet again will start another test on GW for 35 pip distance grid.

1. It is still my firm belief that this can be an easy set and forget EA if you have the right settings and are willing to sit on your money for a length of period as it will be tied for lengthy time is some choppy markets. Saying that, I also believe it is low risk as it is not meant to take losses, only close positive hedges.
(Although I am wondering if there is a strategy worth looking at
for closing losing hedges in order to release it
and accumulate more positive trading.)

2. Money can be tied up for a length of time in large DD of equity. In the example attached, you will see one baske hedge too 22 days to close, and a second one was going to close in a whopping 2.5-3 months from first opened trade.

I have also attached an excel spreadsheet of the results for my testing the period of January 1st 2015 - May 2015 where I have abandoned my results.

Cheers!

It might be worth to take a look at the current HGBnG with SMA attached.
Only sells below the MA, only buys above the MA which makes closing hedges easier.

You can make HGBnG work like GW, with grids etc.
The only thing it doesn't do is sent new grid after L4 so set a big enough grid in the first place.

Hmmmm... I did think about this. If I set a large grid to HGBnG.

I am demoing HGBnG at the moment. Once I have been satisfied with what I'm doing with it at the moment, I might give this a whirl. It's a shame the GW at 20 pip distance REALLY does what I want it to do. The only negative side of it was this period in which it took more than £500 without closing a trade. For testing purposes, it was ok because I was up tp a £761 closed balance but in a real live situation, this could have been my first time using the EA live with £500 and it would have wiped me out.

Onwards and upwards.

Thanks for your advice and comments in this thread.

V 1m is in post 1. Lots of buttons to give you control over GW.

My screen is a decent size, so make sure you can see all the buttons in the picture:
GBPJPYM15.png
You can adjust the button sizes and placements - look at this code snippet starting at line 310 for a description of the inputs' functions:
extern string cmdb="---- Command buttons ----";
extern int ButtonHeight=50;
extern int ButtonWidth=150;
extern ENUM_BASE_CORNER ButtonCorner=CORNER_LEFT_UPPER; // Chart corner for anchoring
extern string ButtonFont="Arial"; // Font
extern int ButtonFontSize=14; // Font size
extern color ButtonColor=clrBlack; // Text color
extern color ButtonBackColor=C'236,233,216'; // Background color
extern color ButtonBorderColor=clrNONE; // Border color
extern int Button_X=800; //X axis
extern int Button_Y=50; //Y axis
Press the 'Pause trading' button and you will see a message in the chart feedback that reminds you. You can play with the buttons to your heart's content until you press the Resume button or restart your platform.

Hello Steve,
it's possible to add a filter (EMA, Stochastic, or RSi) before send the first grid?

Maybe is possible to lowering the DD

I think that the ideal is to have a grid in this case (ImageBelow)

Very very a nice work

Sorry for my poor english

Wow! :o Interesting buttons to play with. :)

Just putting my thoughts out on this one as it has itched my brain a bit.

What are your thoughts on Daily Global Profit Reached?

My reasoning behind this is that if there was a setting of daily global profit reached, GW could stop trading until the next Daily candle.

When the next day candle appears, the only thing that would have possibility to hedge is the wick of the new candle. The goal would be to capture TP in a day rather than sometimes wait days, weeks, months for hedges to close.

Depending on the size of the grid, this should more often than not keep your hedged loser positions to a minimum and hopefully on frequent enough occasions, no hedge at all depending on the grid size you are using.

Just one of my ideas about Grid Entry.

I'd like to hear your comments.

Thanks for your continued interest Steve.

Until this EA proves to be profitable, anything else about it is irrelevant.

GW is a toy to me. I added the buttons as an exercise. I am going to add them, plus a couple of extra ones, to HGBnG, which I regard as a serious trading robot. Then I shall use the whole shebang to produce a 'Buttons module' for my shell code thread.

I regard anybody treating GW as a potential trading EA as barking at the wrong moon. I will support people who come up with ideas that they have proven to work. Other than that, best not to confuse this toy with anything serious.

Fair comment. It's your EA after all. Maybe I'll so some forward testing with GW alongside a trade manager that can do what I would like to do of a trade strategy. I am not saying this to offend, I simply see this grid trading toy EA as having more potential than its surface. Who knows? I might prove myself wrong.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend!
