Hello all,

I am testing the use of GridMaster along with Basket Gains for closing trades with a PivotPoint strategy for the entries and the results have been around 1-3% per day, but it was great for trading The Brexit Poll.

I decided to surf this rogue wave, on Demo of course, and made 28% UP in the 3 days of the event, most of it was yesterday with the poll results. I have to mention that I was using 9 pairs at the peak moment of the event, the drawdown was near 1/3 of the account because the spreads and the margin went down to 80% because the shortage leverage.

Wonderful results so far with GM closing strategy; I quietly follow Rene´s work, I must thank and congratulate him for the great closing strategy coded here, with this approach, not even a big news can beat a group of currency pairs when they work together.

Interesting idea! Could you elaborate a little more on the entries? Do you have an EA for your entries, or are these entered manually?

Rene, we all know that drawdown happens when you use grid trading, then I considered a different approach by entering trades based on Pivot Points so trades wont go so far from each other avoiding drawdowns.

For the entries I use an old EA posted on FF back in 2007 but his author lost the code, although I think that any PP EA could do the job. This particular EA set BUYs at every S3, S2, S1 support lines and SELLs at every R3, R2, R1 resistance lines, S and R lines are hourly recalculated, settings allowed on lot size, SL and TP; I dont use any SL/TP on the EA, instead, I only set a closing position when 0.5% of the balance is reached or let your GridMaster strategy works if an entry goes wrong. So far, the worst drawdown observed (besides the Brexit experience) has been aroung 15% and daily gains between 1%-3%. I should start using "Trade Chart 2" to monitor and make sure of this.

I tested this PivotPoint method for quite a long time on individual pairs, results can be very good or very bad if you let it go alone, you can double the account on one day and loose everything the next one, but if the trend is on your side then magic will happen. I wonder if is possible to make a HGBnPivots ......

I got a PM as follows:
I have been following Grid dancers and Gridmaster since its launching. I have been using the 'Get direction automatically'' using Maddy for entry and the results are quit good. my question is whether one can use Gridmaster for managing trades when doing manual entry. Wherever you would recommend I proceed and trade live account with the EA. Thanks for great work
The answer to the question if you can use GridMaster to manage manually opened trades: Absolutely! Just be aware that manual trades have a magic number of 0, so you need to set GridMaster's MagicNumber parameter to 0 as well. Also note that the "Rinse 'n Repeat" and "Rinse 'n Remove" buttons won't work, as these were meant to send messages to the GridDancer's that are no longer present. And the TradingHours setting won't work either, as GridMaster will continue to manage/close trades as long as there are trades open.

In addition, you can use GridMaster to manage the trades of another EA (and that is what the previous poster erwinpaz) has been doing. Again, make sure to align the magic numbers of both EA's.

Would I go live with it? This is a personal decision and you are probably asking the wrong person -- as I am extremely conservative when it comes to taking risks. From what I've seen recently, the gap between the equity and balance has been too large for my liking. In other words, I don't like the big draw downs. It gives me the creeps. This is to a large extent the fault of the GridDancer's. If we can find a better entry system, one that does not produce these big draw downs, I might consider going live. But not now.

Rene I have sent you a PM that is relevant to this.

Past few weeks I have been concentrating on HGBnG M5 traded alongside RnR. Last week provided 5400 pips in 4days from HGBnG alone with much less drawdown than RnR. I posted that setfile and results in HGBnG thread.

I currently have HGBnG seperated into buy only and sell only EA's in direction of M5, H1 and D1 CSS. They offset independently using the offsetting function on each HGBnG along with RnR but I could see a big advantage in offsetting collectively.

I would like to test this with Gridmaster but would need a version than can manage more than one magic number or just all the trades on an account.

Is this something you can/would be prepared to do? I would like to post the results here or in a new thread using GridMaster for collective offsetting.

ahhh thanks Rene. I didn't receive the original PM but I have now you resent. Perhaps my mailbox was full at the time. I really appreciate this.

What I will do is keep the demo I have running with independent offsetting and setup a new one tonight with offsetting disabled on each of the HGBnG EA's and RnR and use GridMaster for the closing.

We can then compare both side by side. If it looks worthwhile at the end of this week I will setup a new thread over the weekend to invite further thoughts / testing and refinements to this idea since it embodies work from three separate threads.
