The weakness here then is at the extremes when Superslope gets caught out by a retrace but then Peaky will be banking pips and if Peaky is going into recovery then HGBnDnSSnFB will be banking pips.

The settings allow all this already so will try both head to head on H1 and see what happens. It could be the perfect marriage?
And maybe the Ultimate Monster EA?

There is not the remotest chance of me even beginning to consider amalgamating the code of the two existing EA's. That way lies even more madness that I already suffer.

A newly coded and dedicated EA based on the results of your research is a different matter. Keep going, tiger.

Personally I have never had good experiences from tight SL and 200 on H1 is about the minimum that seems to give a reasonable balance on the major pairs between preventing big losses and allowing sufficient room to breathe. Forget what people say about needing a higher return per risk. With accurate entries often an initial SL 10 x average profit actually works well.. with a BE and JS once in profit.

Hi, have been following this thread for awhile and are impresed with how the strategy and EA is developing.

I think using ADR for setting lot size, stops and recovery entry levels is important to reduce variances between trades. The variances in ADR between say GBPNZD and EURCHF may be as much as 200 pips, (common pairs such as EURUSD and GBPUSD often vary by 50 to 100 pips) so using a standard pip based approach does not reflect the variances that exist.
The added benefit of using ADR as the basis for these settings is that you get a reasonably consistent level of risk per trade.
A recovery trade setting of 150% of the ADR would be a minimum while 200% of the ADR reduces the risk but often takes a considerably longer time to close out trades.

One thing that would help with pairing this alongside Peaky would to be to allow the recovery option in HGBnDnSSnFB to work independently of Sixths? Then I can run both with the same recovery settings.

If that's not straight forward I can just activate Sixths with a much smaller no of bars so that it's not really filtering but enables recovery to be used.

Cheers!

I just checked the code. Although FollowAdverseMarketWithStopOrders is part of the Sixths inputs and I intended it only to follow the market if Sixths were enabled, the code that calls the fill the gap function is this:

Code: Select all

   if (FollowAdverseMarketWithStopOrders)
      if (OpenTrades < MaxTradesAllowed)
         FillGapsWithStopOrders();
No mention of Sixths, so what you want is already there, albeit by a happy accident.

Yes I agree. And also having given a bit more thought I realized I don't need recovery on the HGBnDnSSnFB side, I think it will be better to use a grid to scale in as I have been doing with my Grid + Sixths test.

So this will be Grid no Sixths, and the grid size can match the recovery grid in Peaky for each pair. So if this is 100pips when both EA's have a trade open in opposite directions, for every new recovery position added in Peaky, HGBnDnSSSnFB will be adding to it's winning position. This will at least take away concerns of a runaway market because if Peaky gets to level 6 recovery HGBnDnSSnFB will already be rolling in pips. So as long as HGBnDnSSnFB can breakeven ish the rest of the time this will be very interesting.

So with this in mind, based on a 100pip standard I am setting up as follows:

100pip Grid Size for HGBnDnSSnFB to match Peaky Recovery and max 6 positions for both
100pip Jumping SL for both HGBnDnSSnFB and Peaky instead of any TP. This will protect the grid and recovery as either/or/both go into profit as price dances about.
200pip SL for HGBnDnSSnFB trades to limit loses on the other side.
No SL for Peaky because Recovery is what works here.

Here is the example HGBnDnSSnFB set based on above although I will dissable the trade management features and use a separate trade manager to set 2 ATR (D1) SL for HGBnDnSSnFB and 1ATR JS for all trades. I will also manually set 1ATR for the the recovery spacing in Peaky and Grid size in HGBnDnSSnFB for each pair.

I will setup tonight and iron out any creases this week and if this all runs together ok I will open a new thread for next week for HGBnDnSSnFB Vs Peaky. Of course it's not a competition between the two.. the idea is that they will compliment and protect each other to bank more pips more of the time :smile:

HI all,

After a brief back-and-forth discussion with TJF, I am holding off going live with my Sixths No Grid setup that will only trade in the middle. TJF mentioned that now that we have the option to use recovery with FollowAdverseMarketWithStopOrders, that it might be interesting to see how trading with a limited recovery would work compared with the strict 200 pip SL.

So I have 16 pairs running dueling demos, one using up to two recovery trades, but still using a 200 pip SL (might have to think that through), the other using just the 200 pip SL.

TJF, of course this means that if the demos make money again this month and then it loses money the first month when it goes live, it will be all your fault. :lol: On the other hand, since it is all your hard work in the first place...

Anyway, I am trading just in the middle and we'll see how it goes.

Happy trading! :D TJF, thanks for all of your input and advice! :smile:

Never worth rushing to go live. The extra month will either add more confidence or uncertainty that you have the best settings for what you want to do. Either way that should save you some dollars in the long term.

Your parallel test will be interesting as you are now the pioneer of trading in the middle :clap:

May I suggest on the test with recovery, if you are using 2 x 100pip recovery trades that you increase the SL to 250 or 300pips otherwise you will be just swapping the outer trade for a loser. You may also want to consider using multiples of ATR for each pair rather than 100pips but these refinements can always come later.

Good luck and look forwards to seeing how you get on.

I downloaded the latest 1e version to begin my new testing for July. EURGBP sent a sell trade on one demo and said that Sixths could trade short, but the other demo sent no trade and said that Sixths couldn't be traded. Hmmm..... Since the only difference was the recovery stuff, I knew I had to have inadvertently set something different on the two demos.

So, for those of you testing, I had accidentally left DIAD trading set to true on the set of demos that sent the trade. I don't why or how it affects the Sixths trade-able setting, but if definitely did for me. A lot of pairs said they were trade-able short even though price was way up near the top sixths line. Other pairs seemed just fine. EURGBP was just outside of the trade-able range and technically shouldn't have sent a trade, but I'll leave the trade going now that it started.

Steve, I thought maybe I would find something about the DIAD trading in the Dotty user's guide to understand what it was trying to do, but for me the link in post 1 is broken and no longer brings it up.

If anyone has a link to a user's guide with the DIAD setting, I'll use it as a chance to learn something, although I definitely won't be using it in my testing.

Thanks!
