Although I haven't been able to find code to give user input for pairs listed, I was able to shorten the list by adding input for MaxSpreadToShow and set it at 4 default. Now it's a shorter list? :)

Thanks for the user input (literally)

Gary's StormRadar indicator (http://www.stevehopwoodforex.com/phpBB3 ... 440#p28220) has this feature, with code copied from one of Baluda's EAs (MultiBob would be my guess). I am sure there are many other examples, those just come to mind first.

Great catch Sini! I was using the DailyPivot instead of the DailyOpen. Literally 8 keystrokes to fix, but means all the difference in the world. Now it's following the strategy. Again, great catch!

Kindest regards,

As I can see on the your picture, you're getting in the trade between the DP and DO. For example AUDUSD DO 1.0412 DP 1.0394 this means we have buy at DO 1.0412 when price was on that level, but on your indicator it is Enter buy at 1.0399, this is 13 pips below DO, please can you explain how do you get in the trade?

Thank you
Cheers,

Candlestar,

I'm not sure. I got the GMT stuff down pat it looked like, then I tried targeting Forex Day Open and hit a brick wall using the existing pivot code that seemed to work so well for GMT.

Plus just found a glitch in what price to buy/sell at, so glad I haven't given but just pics out on the update so far, or we'd have a lot of people using bad entry prices that didn't match the rules.

Plus we have Bob still working on R:R and Volatility, and me doing the same, but I'm following him. All I can say is I'm working on it :)

Kindest regards,

Don

Glad I could help. It is the least we can do to try & make things easier for you.

I don't know if you saw the small graph at the bottom of the page? If you place your cursor in the bottom it will show 2 drag handles. You can drag the left one to the far left of the graph. It will then visually show the change in volatility since mid 2009 to present. "Every picture tells a story".

You can see that EURUSD was moving over 180 pips a day at this time last year. Now we are lucky to get 100 pips a day. As you rightly say, we can't expect to get the same rewards as last year, so must adjust our expectations accordingly.

I have found that in Summer, Forex day starts at 17:00 EDT/21:00 GMT. In winter, Forex day starts at 17:00 EST/22:00 GMT. For this reason, traders should follow Eastern time no matter is DST or not, because it doesn't change. Oddly enough, when it comes to Forex day open, GMT is the one that changes when DST is on vs off. Per my findings, I need to find a php webage that has Eastern timestamp on it (don't care about DST in this scenario), like http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/stamps.php (note: corrected webpage link after posting), except displaying Eastern time information, or continue to use GMT information, but also get DST information to add 1 hour to open time in GMT during winter (22:00 vs 21:00).

Kindest regards,

Don

NB - wow - that is a fantastic piece of analysis! I am wondering, it should be possible to code this in Empty4, so we get some form of indication when daily movement increases again - any takers?

Cheers and thanks again

audcad trade for the day. 35 TP 20 SL this will be a 1.5:1 ratio. I will put TS of 10 which when price hits +10 will turn the trade to a break even. What Steve is working on for me is a jumping SL. I can then move SL up to -10 pips at +5 which then turns the ratio to a 3.5:1 ratio. I will teach more on this subject later and some stats for this thinking. So right now have to use TS.

10.2a 4H read is ranging so only try for DS1. If it was trending as a sell then you could try for DS2 or WS2

Post subject:  Volatility driven... Re: 10.3 SCALPER/RANGE TRADE SYSTEM

Bob, Don, Spyderman, Baluda et al,

No sooner had I thought of below after reading Mick (MADPIPA) I saw spyderman haying the same thoughts!

I totally agree with spyderman. What we need is a comparison of current volatility levels (e.g., from reading Mick's link) with what we already know about historical volatility (what Bob's analysis tells us from Mick's link.)

As Bob has noted volatility has changed considerably (has been going down since 2009.) Well, it can also go up very quickly, since according to the CBOE VIX (daily volatility for the stock and futures markets) daily volatility was at a historic low of about 12 in August 2012 but since has gone up (just as experience would predict) from that level to about 19-21 currently. And then there is intraday volatility ...

Most market watchers think it is bound to increase as major events (fiscal cliff, Euro debates etc) come to the surface post-US elections. So we ought to think of volatility comparisons in conjunctions with judging trending vs ranging markets. The fact is that both trending and ranging markets can have low or high volatility.

One suggestion: break down daily volatility tables into deciles- from #1 (lowest) to #10 (or have, say, 4-5 classes to match Bob's pairs volatility groups.) Then, from Mick's link (or similar resource), determine the current match for D1, W1 TFs. Add this analysis to 10.2A and 10.3 in say MultiBob, using Don's good works, and now we have a pretty complete (both simple and rational) trading system that can guide us.

For example:

1. Determine from D1 and H4 TF whether the market is ranging or trending from TMA Slope indy.

2. Check Mick's link to find the closest decile or class match for volatility for that pair. CBOE VIX should not be used here since it is for stock/futures not forex, and unluckily no overall forex market volatility gauge, based on, say, weighted means of currency pairs volatility, is available- a great topic for future development.

3. If trending, use 10.2/A methods with adjustment for volatility.

4. If ranging, also check lower TFs for 10.3 analysis. Apply 10.3, perhaps CTS ...

5. It is important to remember that both trending and ranging markets can be volatile. We thus need to expand our analysis/methodology for both 10.2A and 10.3 to take account of volatility, which IMHO is what has been missing from the big picture !

I have been ranting about a volatility based approach in several threads, so am glad to see this being recognized here :)

From options markets trading, volatility (based on standard deviation of price changes in Black Scholes) is probably the most recognized 'leading' (tradable) indicator to date. It just so happens that there is no equivalent developed in forex owing to forex's OTC nature (i.e., non-standard options contracts.) But a simple forex market indy can be quickly developed as above in #2, using currency strength difference techniques.

Regards,
Athar.

99 week data-- 4 pairs over 140 and 13 over 100 pips a day average
12 week data-- 1 pair over 140 (gbp/nzd) and only 1 over 100 (eur/nzd)

The market is now less volatile than it was 2 years ago and less volatile than it was a year ago.

Now we know how to basically trade and set our TP. Excel sheet data attached

Bob,

Thanks once again for some fantastic insight and information. Wouldn't it be great to have an indi that read the history on all pairs in the market watch and showed a volatility graph for a given time period. :) I'm sure the change happens slowly but would be nice to keep pace as the markets evolve. Would have been interesting in real time to see the markets move from effective 10.0 trading to what we now seems to be a 10.3 climate...

Baluda...are you listening?

OR check the 4H chart and 10.2a. The eur/cad has all three lines lined up for downtrend, so I will play my TP as DS2. You can see the pic below. Notice I am taking the trade at the last low instead of the pivot.
