Hi everyone,

I've done away with the hedging idea even though the prototype Mantkinth coded (Ver 4c ) did $ 419 (on a $ 5000 demo) in 6 days. See attached. The idea is sound but there were too many demands on the EA to have buys/sells open the same time and slippage and spreads created havoc. Thats still a lot of pips considering that the starting lot size was .01 and .02 with all Hedge/Strat 1 trades. Even though trades always ended in a profit the problem with Strat 1 the hedge would close before S1 and the problem with draw down and an open hanging trade was still problematic.

In a nutshell. This what I'm trying to get in an EA. Trade 3 sessions separately. Trade Asian session 15 mins before Tokyo (not Sydney) opening. This will trade exactly as Fx Pooler v. 2.1 does now. Looks at price to move away from opening and the further it moves the more chance it will retrace to Pivot line. Start at .02 lots. Idea is to catch profit within the first 3 levels. If not move levels wider to manage draw down. Some sort of Nanningbob/Beast EA type recovery can be used when 7th-8th level is reached. This must still be debated and tested. Also need all the Steve filters like with Zelko etc to prevent being over correlated.

Then set grid at opening of London session (not European (Frankfurt). Set PL at 15 mins before opening. Buy Stop above and Sell Stop below at 10 pips for EU. Then next 4 grids 5 pips apart. SL at 10 pips otherside PL. Move Chandelier tighter as trades fill more positions. Rinse and repeat for NY session.

Yesterday would have made 268 pips with EU--its total Daily Range was just 98 pips.

Hi Pooler, sounds good.
I have been running demos that have 3 session trading periods, asia, euro and us. I would say that my starting times have been within an hour or so of your stated times, either way pretty close. I am also running a single Asia to early in US session to compare.
I have been allowing for a 3 hour trading window with pending orders. I have used both your "settings 2" OR levels and another that is just using your smallest OR levels. I am running some different lot scaling, as in my tests/demos, I found that the first 5 OR levels and default lot sizes worked well. But that as more OR levels were reached the default lot sizes meant that a quite big retracement or trend change was required to close the trade. This just tied up to much margin waiting to close out trades. There are solutions to this of course that revolve around numbers of trades and margin control, alas I am not a programmer. I used higher lots to keep the TP's parallel to the trend, this closes out trades much faster.
Also with 3 sessions traded a day, it does not matter if there is a strong trend or a range day, as the TP's are quite close. As the later session trades don’t need as big a pullback, I found that even if you had a trade from a session last for a few days, the pips kept rolling in on the other sessions for the same market.
I have also been looking at it verse Xmeter. I feel that your method, mixed with the xmeter's and similar EA’s, huge amount of inbuilt protection, would give you the protection you would need, regardless of what final setting you come up with to optimize your results.
I look forward to seeing this develop more.
Thanks again for you sharing your ideas.

This comment has me intrigued! I am still way back at the start of a very steep Forex trading learning curve; so a newbie question if I may! Thanks to the above I am now aware that I can set an expiry on pending trades via the R-click/Modify or Delete option. The Blue button at the start of the Expiry box... Does using that create the 3 Hour window you mentioned above or is there another way?

Thanks! Take care now!
Cheers

Hi Pooler,

I would reconsider the hedging idea. Almost all successful grid trading system uses hedging. The idea is to take profits constantly either way the market moves. Lot size management and pip gap distance is the key to get it right, but trade both ways.
Do not abandon the hedging concept.

Hi Frank,

Haven't done away with the concept of hedging entirely--just the way I had it. The problem is that McCrappy Empty4's inability to consistently process the EA placing buy/sells at the same time and the hedge closing before strat 1 filling TP meant that the draw down problem still existed.

I'm separating the strategies so that they're more appropriate to price behaviour during the various trading sessions. I'll attach some charts to explain what I mean.

Next post.

Hi AussieDoc,
you can do it manually, however I have done it through the EA, as it does it for you after you have it setup. To set my 3 sessions up, I have 3 instances of each chart cross, 1 for each of the 3 sessions I want the EA to trade.
I place the EA on each chart, and use a different magic number for each session, eg. Asia session 11, euro session 22, US session 33 ( use any number they just have to be different for each session).
I then setup the times using 'trade start time' and 'trade end time' in the ea, that sets the length of time the pending orders will be active.
So I end up with 3 charts for each market I want. One chart for Asia session with its own magic number and trade times ( use these setting for all market charts that are for the Asia session ).
One chart for euro session with its own magic number and trade times ( use these setting for all market charts that are for the euro session ).
One chart for US session with its own magic number and trade times ( use these setting for all market charts that are for the US session ).

I hope this helped a little.

Hi Peterke,

Pooler is the expert with this system, I'm just on the coat-tails of his work. I am running a number of different setups to slowly close in on the settings I like, so that when some modifications are done, I'll already have some ground work out of the way. To show which markets I'm using I'll give you the link to my MyFxBook. Under summary you'll be able to see which markets are being traded. Also if you click on the bar for 'monthly gain (change)' you will get this in more detail. Click on the general tab to see my notes of what I'm doing. I have set these demos up for my own curiosity and education. Hope this is helpful.
